I know how long you two have been working on this, I've been here from the start. It still surprises me when you show them unloading the container and saying, July of 2021. Good stuff. Major pieces taking shape. Stay safe. Have fun at Annapolis, and say hi to all our friends. I watch a lot of them. ❤🙏

Catamarans risk big waves that go between the hulls damaging the bridge deck. Some of the big ferries have what looks like a third hull dangling down up front to break those waves up. Normally, it doesn't touch the surface. The boat that Ross from Life on the Hulls is building has two smaller breakers. On your boat, you have a pair of beams. Can those prevent the waves from damaging your boat?

Have you guys just considered hiring a few extra hands to finish this? Not sure what you're paying for storage, but now you're outside and also dealing with wear and tear. Then of course yard fees. I just finished a pretty massive project tearing my lagoon 440 apart, grinding and glassing back my mast bulkhead. Working on my engine bulkhead now. I hired out help to tackle this, and we knocked it out in 3 weeks. It would have taken just me 3 months to do this alone. I've talked to other people who have built their own catamaran, and they all had hired help for all or some of their build. I'd say there's also a motivating factor in having someone you hired working on your boat with you. Just a thought. You guys have been at this so long! And you're getting closer and closer to the finish line. It sure seems like you're in a place now where you can divide and conquer work between different areas of the boat! We want to see you guys out there sailing!

Life is short, labour is cheap. Hire the labour to minimise yard time.
@MJSailing

Regardless of costs in hiring someone, this project is more about the satisfaction of Jess and I building the boat ourselves, then worrying about the time it takes. Since we've been out cruising before, we're well aware of what we have to look forward to.... It's a carrot hanging in front of us and motivation everyday
@meatmwax
@meatmwax 5 күн бұрын
@@MJSailing I get it. But is it really going to take away satisfaction to have some assistance? I mean, are you worried about "street cred" in saying that you did everything yourself? Because there's always going to be someone more "hardcore" than you guys! I've met multiple people who built their own hulls, and you guys bought a kit boat. I don't say that to discredit your work, just pointing out that there's ZERO shame in having help. Either way, incredible works guys. Keep it up!

you weren't kidding last episode about the tent being shredded, good grief. Was it a new canvas when you moved in or was it reaching the end of its shelf-life already?
@MJSailing
@MJSailing 7 күн бұрын
Yes, it absolutely was. The structure has been there for over 20 years, and I think the canvas was only supposed to have a 10 year life.

Awesome progress Matt! Whats your overall impression of using the NidaCore after you worked with it? Can’t wait until you get the bows installed. Also, clickbond standoffs for wire runs and overhead cabin and saloon head liners. Great vid!
@MJSailing
@MJSailing 8 күн бұрын
I'm not a fan of the nidacore. The best quality is that it is cheap compared to foam. Shear strength is much lower, as is compression.... It's pretty noticeable in the pieces we have. Even the professionally done pieces. It also leaves a pretty rough surface since each cell of the honeycomb prints through the glass, so requires more finishing.
