Nice video. The bevel box and rear diff are usually ignored. I'm at 80k and feel I should change both.
@brycecarlson2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah; I did mine because there was no service record I could find for the bevel box when I bought the vehicle with 223k miles. The rear differential did have service records, but the cost is not that much and it was on the lift anyways.

Phew, I have the same angle gearbox in a Skoda Octavia Scout, but with a DQ250 DSG gearbox and I was worried that the amber color of the angled gearbox oil is due to cross contamination with the DSG oil, which is amberish, but I see that's not the case. I suppose the angle gearbox oil darkens as its being cooked by the engine. The rear differential oil remains straw colored, while the angle gearbox oil gets that color even after only two years or 30k-40k kms.

Yeah, I noticed the front fluid was in much worse shape than the rear, but that also makes sense as the front wheels are used 100% of the time vs the rear that is only used in low traction situations.

Great video... Quick question, did you remove the passenger side wheel for this service?
@brycecarlson2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I did not. It was not in the way of my arm, but I did hit my head on it several times while trying to reach the upper fill plug. I use a QuickJack lift so it was mostly out of the way.

does the bevel box use same as gear box fluid

Negative. The bevel box is 75W-90 and the MTF has its own part number.

Mine leaks on my skoda yeti 2016.... Don't know from where... Question. Does the same fluid is used for the read diff(not haldex)
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
Yeah; same part number for the differential fluid at least here in the US spec sheets. Also, cool that you have a Yeti we do not get those here in the US always jealous of those when I see them on work travel to the UK and EU.

Snap. my 2016 Yeti has also got a leak from the bevel box according to Skoda. I'm just wondering whether to get some oil and top it up myself rather than put it in for what is like an expensive repair

@@thievesoftime I did the rear diff box using liquimoly GL4+. The front I couldn't open the fill in bolt as I can't have proper access to it.. I hope is not dry lol. Also I found out my front right axle spewing grease all over...

@@ALGfunk I had mine up on ramps at the weekend. I've cleaned everything up to try and see where the leak is coming from. But same problem as you can't get to access to top it up.

Negative. The Mk 6 Golf R I did this on was manual transmission.

The bevel box is a separate unit from the transmission. Manual, DSG, Automatic all use the same bevel box.

Brother may i ask , is the bevel box in the passat b6 R36 2008 ? Thanks
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
Not 100% sure. I would assume so as that uses a similar haldex system. We never got that in the USA so I am not sure what parts diagram would show that but I would think it has to have it.
@q8kingo358 Жыл бұрын
@@brycecarlson thanks so much for the respond , may i ask if the R36 is a wanted car in the US and how much because am thinking to sell it there , if you have any knowledge about that .. 🌹
@brycecarlson Жыл бұрын
@@q8kingo358 R32s are very popular but R36 is kind of unknown. But there is for sure a strong following and VW culture here. But also we do not get a lot of the cool stuff Europe gets. Plus we have to wait 25 years from production to import anything not sold here. Canada is 15 years from production.

Not sure if it's uniquely American. However, that's what all of the Volkswagen of America service manual documents referred to it as. 🤷♂️

Hi, how many liters should be refilled with? Or which is the quantity which should be filled?
@brycecarlson2 жыл бұрын
So the service manual states to fill it untill fluid starts coming out of the fill hole (page 534 of the 02Q transmission service manual 08.2019 edition). When I filled up my Mk6 Golf R (with it on a level surface it used up a majority of the 1L VW OEM fluid).

No problem! Found the fill amount on the fluid capacity chart. It states 1 L. I wound up using just about all of the container. static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2013/SB-10068278-2280.pdf

@@brycecarlson I have a Passat 2012 4motion and I had a very loud metallic scratchy noise on acceleration when turning left and when accelerating on reverse, changed the oil in the bevel box and when pulled out the drain plug dropped out about 100 ml, of course this was the issue. Refilled with 900-950 ml and problem fixed. PS. I have inspected the old 100 ml oil and there were not found any metallic flakes or small particles of metal.
