Hi, dunno if you respond on your older videos, is there a gearbox oil dipstick to check the level, or is a case of using ramps or jacking the car up and adding fluid and see if anything comes out? Thanks in advance as I can't find much info online!

Hi...I try to respond to all my video's... 😀 from memory you fill until the oil trickles out of the fill hole itself, no dipstick unfortunately as that would be too easy 😂

@@AdeReeves ahh I knew that was coming lol! So while it's jacked up I might as well just do a gearbox oil change rather than just topping it up if needed! Thanks 🤩

Love your videos,we got the same tyers they are great! Tell me do i need to put the gearbox in 1st or neutral position before doing the oil change? Cheers

Thanks for watching... which gear it's in should not really matter as the gear possition really does not effect the gearbox sump at all.

Hello, the oil you used in the gearbox is it the same oil for the transfer box as well, or two different oils. I know the oil in the haldex at the rear is different from the rear diff, but I'm not sure about the front of the car. Thank you.
@AdeReeves2 жыл бұрын
yeah, same in both Stephen (at least that’s what my discoveries yielded)… I did the haldex in another video and yeah completely different oil as you said. DSG gearboxes also use a different grade to manual ones.

@@AdeReeves Thank you Ade for getting back to me and the info.

that will be perfect for doing the Haldex oil change too

Yes...used a tube of oil last time with a calking gun, it was a bleeding nightmare ....haven't done the haldex for a couple of years so may be time to do it again ..

i have an a3 quattro and my transfer box is leaking. i want to top it up temporarily while i figure out getting the leak fixed. do you put the same oil into the transfer box as gear box? i thought transfer needed different oil! cheers
@AdeReeves4 ай бұрын
It may depend on year , but i consulted a friend at Audi and they gave me the spec for the oil which they use for both the gearbox and transfer....the only difference i know of is the haldex which is completely different . I would say to be safe consult the experts to make sure.

Is this an S3 8P1? I am putting mine in for Haldex and Diff oil change and asked for gearbox to be done too but I have been advised by my mechanic that the gearbox is "lifetime" and shouldn't need to be changed, so might be something I do myself when I get it back. Thanks
@AdeReeves7 ай бұрын
Most manufactures seem to clam "lifetime" now for gearbox oil....but 100k miles is a long time for nay oil and when i changed mine it was very cloudy with water ... so I would never , not change the oil on a car that's done over 50k with the same oil in it personally.

@@AdeReeves Thanks going to change mine tomorrow as I can get the oil and a pump on Amazon

Sorry to bother you again. Just a quick question I used the exact oil you used Comma 75w GL4. Keep seeing around the web it should be 75w90, shifting feels smoother already just hope there will be no issues 😅. Did you go with the same exact Comma 75w oil for the rear diff in the end? Now thinking should I get the front diff and transfer box done too while I'm doing all the other oils lol. Thanks

@@chickendipper657 Like you I tried to use forums etc to find the best options and like all post related to oil grades they all said different things... In the end I chatted to a friend who rebuilds gearboxes for a living and he said this is what he uses on all VAG stuff (even new) ...so I went with it ... wasn't the cheapest but like you, when the oil was changed it felt a lot smoother .
@chickendipper6577 ай бұрын
@@AdeReeves So you did go with the same oil in the rear diff? Edit: Just realised you did gearbox and transfer box, not to worry :)

How many litre’s of oil does the gearbox take? Cheers
@AdeReeves2 жыл бұрын
I think the book says about 2 ltrs , but the key is to fill it until the oil starts to dribble out of the fill port.
