Hi Andrew. My Mk8 GTI is coming up for 3 years old soon. I'll be requesting the Gearbox oil and filter change together with the Engine oil/filter. Some may disagree and question but for me, new oil= longer life for the components.

On my 5spd mk6 tdi I have changed trans fluid around 3 year intervals. I can feel a difference when I change it after that long. All gearbox fluids get sticky after a while, usually well before their service life expires. When you keep ahead of that they always run great.

I've probably driven several 1.9 TDIs with manual gearboxes which probably never had their oil changed and had covered 350-500k km.. So yeah, with normal driving - it should probably never be needed.

No but front callipers looking likely as they clank when smacked with palm. Pads aren’t sprung correctly in calliper so it moves a bit. Hope it’s this, waiting to upgrade brakes before I attend to it

@@volkswizard my 16Golf GTI goes in for its service on Friday hoping they can pin down the grumbling from passengers side, I’m sure it’s the tops mount, I’ve checked everything else. Hopefully it’ll be covered under the VW warranty or the MOT insurance 🤞🏻

Hi Andrew! Thanks a lot for all the info you shared. Could you please tell me how much gear oil should be filled in 2015 2nd Gen Jetta TDI 2.0 MT and how to know when it is filled up to the mark. My car uses the same MQ350 gearbox. Should I fill precisely 2.3 litres?

Hello mate, great video I throughly enjoyed watching it. I have a 2018 MK7.5 Golf 1.0 TSI SE, and just today the car wouldn’t engage into reverse (only has 51k miles). The gearbox is not faulty at all (all other gears worked fine) and I get it serviced every year at a VW main dealer. Read up somewhere that putting it through first and second continuously would do the trick, and after doing that for some while reverse was working again. My question is, any idea as to why? Is it to do with the gearbox oil or a cable of some sort?

Hi mate. I used synthetic 75w90 synthetic gl4+ another synthetic additive on my Audi A1 2012 1.4 tfsi manual 6 speed gear box. The original gear oil is too expensive in my opinion. Do you think it’s gonna be bad for my gear box? Thanks for your information

Mine was at 210 K when I did change the manual fluid for the first time, luckily It’s running greatly better now than but since I didn’t have OE fluid I used oil from company tobe called “ ROWE😂”, exactly it’s ROWE fully synthetic 75W-80 S FE GL-4 but it’s also rating a bit of gl-5 “. For manual transmission 6 speed TT 225 And I used ROWE ATF 9000 for my R53 MCSA too at 111 K I was a bit surprised because it’s smooth sailing on both by far Honestly --- we don’t find yet any use of ROWE on KZbin 😂---

I notice on owners groups and forums theres always that one person who chimes in when someone asks about servicing a "lifetime" fluid, that will put in their own anecdotal evidence and some wank about the engineers at xyz car brand know best, which i suspect is purely so they feel better about not doing it or getting it done on their own car.

Great video! One question - Are the drain and fill plugs not single use for the gearbox? Just wondering as the LSD drain and fill plugs are single use
@volkswizard
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
VW state replace fill plug and not drain, the kit from Deutscheparts includes both - if you are going to replace one then do both. Didn't realise this until too late though still think it's weird replacing fill plug when drain is the one that could leak and empty gearbox. VW's logic must be if the fill plug seizes in then you are in trouble but I do wonder if it's a way of extracing more £ from punter. These plugs don't have integral rubber o-rings like some I've seen.

It is not in manufacturer's interests for items to last much beyond the 2nd or 3rd owner/user, it is in their interests to artificially lower the running costs and accelerate wear and failure beyond 10 years. They'll make more money this way and it'll be way out of warranty by then.

Great episode really interesting to see you change this gearbox oil I’m always learning from you thank you :) Can I ask you a question, I have a Golf R32 mk5 completely stock 78,000 on the clock and when do you know the brake disc Need changing and what would put on this model in your years of experience. Should I go to VW OEM ? Thank you so much
@volkswizard
@volkswizard Жыл бұрын
The discs either display corrosion which doesn’t come off with use (usually worse on inner face) or they form a lip on the edge of their faces where the pad doesn’t touch. Carefully with cold brakes run your finger along disc face from inside to outside and see if lip there. If more than 2mm approx then change them - there is a minimum width for discs often stamped on bell area. Pagid are ok but Zimmerman is better quality and I think Deutscheparts have just started importing them. Genuine won’t be any better and should cost a lot more

I imagine the facelift mk8 GTI's will get manual swapped, surely there will be transmissions for the job, something from Skoda or Cupra for a budget conversion maybe even parts from the TDI cars.
