I knew they were heavey from pulling the cloth ones out of my 89 in the past but I didn't expect 80lbs with leather. They are comfy but I have to say I prefer the recaro, I'm narrow so it fits me and I stay put so much better pitching the car.

@@BoostRodeo I am in Australia so I get cheap shipping from japan at least. I am set on a type 2 shine auto lip though and they seem to be the only ones making that style which looks like a fatter JZA70 R lip :(

@@lockjawjak I know exactly which one you are talking about. Lips are expensive to ship even stateside and overseas is absurd. Someone on the forums bought one of the JZA70 reproduction lips and I think it was over $800 landed from japan! And the. It fit terrible so he couldn't mold it as he had planned 😥

I remember a while ago on one of the A70 Facebook groups, someone discovered that some model of Honda (an Integra maybe?) just happens to have like the exact same dimensions as Supra's front lip, and so they're cross compatible with pretty much no fitment issues.

Good video. I also seen people use a factory passenger seat on the driver side to save some weight too as that driver seat is a boat anchor lol.

It is! They made some that were cloth and manual but they are still fairly heavy. We actually put a cloth passenger seat out of an 87 in our Corolla rally car and the weight wasn't too bad. Probably only 10 lbs more than the recaro

Thanks Adrian, I'm not the biggest fan of the only swapping the driver seat but I had one 🤷‍♂️ and it's a lot of weight and way more supportive so why not. It's very normal in japan though so I guess I'm just ultra jdm now 😂

@@Adrian_Supra the cloth in my 89 still looks great too. The cloth seats are a little lighter than leather and I think they are actually more comfortable. Cloth grips better, leather just looks so good but most havent held up so well ☹

Planning on some carbon fiber parts and most definitely some aftermarket seats for my mk3, these cars are boats lol maybe I'll take a break from power for a bit to make the subframes better and save weight too

They really are but on the flip side the weight is part of the reason they drive and ride so nice. I recently saw a tubular rear subframe project that someone built. It was pretty amaizing and saved quite a bit of weight.

Very nice and very clean. I just subscribed. I own a 89 supra myself that came with a 7m with an automatic. I just swapped to a 2j aristo and a r154 transmission. Next I’m going with Willwood brakes and bigger/wider tires. I'm curious about your tire and wheel specs and what are your future plans for them.

Nice! Sounds very similar to my setup. 2JZ VVTi now single out of an aristo and still on the R154. Wheels are 9.5/10.5 and I am not sure on the offset. I would guess +20 ish. currently running 225/40/17 front and 255/40/17s rear. Plan is to step up to 245/265 widths with something sticky for the time being. Unfortunately R888s only come in 275 which I doubt will fit with the offset, needs to be +32 or so. New wheels are on the agenda eventually so I can fit more tire, but I do like this set and they are quite rare.

Gonna be doing some weight reduction to my 1986.5 A70, not a full reduction, but I'm gonna be removing most of the interior besides the door panels, front seats, and pretty much the whole front interior for the time being. Basically everything else from the behind the front seats is gonna go.

Should drop quite a bit of weight. Building new front and rear crash bars can also remove a substantial amount. 86.5 is the lightest year so a good start there as well.

As my first car im probably going to buy a Volvo, its reliable and cheap enough to easily save up for a MK 3 Supra. It'd also be cheaper to practice weight removal and not as extensive as ruining a JDM Legend. Id probably cut out the spare tire well and weld in either a deeper floor or a flush floor and replace the fuel cell. Id also probably add a second fuel filter neck to the other side as it doesn't hurt the aesthetic and id perfer the mirrored look. Id probably also swap in either a 2jz or make it become a 1.5jz, add a Supercharger (to remove the turbos, the vacuum setup and other unnecessary points of failure) and add better flowing parts for engine health. I want it too look as stock as possible to not ruine a perfectly fine time capsule. No unnecessary dials and so on. Id perfer to be able to see all the important Data on a phone or similar to not have to mod the car. Id probably also upgraded the speakers and speaker systems but keeping the look of the og car. Maybe new suspension because it has hugely improved since back then, better brakes because you don't need power if you can't stop. A sequential transmission and a momo steering wheel. Maybe some 5 point or 7 point harnesses and seats and a clean up of the floor combined with a new undercoat.

The volvo S40 and S60 are both pretty fun and good daily drivers. I would definitely recommend the A70 as a second car. It's a lot more enjoyable to restore and modify them when you can take your time and have another car to drive.

Its so much fun it's scary. I'm such an old Toyota Junkie! The MKIII Supras and older Celica's can still be found for really reasonable prices but have definitely started to appreciate. I miss my old Taco though. I need another Toyota Truck in my life sooner or later!

They do anymore with how scarce parts are getting! That's a one of the reasons the Rally Corolla we have was getting so much attention on the channel. It is the cheapest car I have ever bought parts for so we could afford to work on it as much as we wanted haha. Everything left planned for this one is $$$!

I admire your optimism but 35 pounds is 1% of the total body weight of 3,600 pounds. Replacing the front hood and rear hatch with carbon fiber aftermarket parts would gain you quite a bit weight savings.

It's definitely not a lot but the factory hood is 47 lbs and a carbon one weighs 13~ish so only 34 lbs there for the same or more money and you don't get the benefit of better support. Most of the weight in the hatch is the glass so the benefits won't be there unless you switch to poly or lexan which is not great for a street car. It takes a lot of dropping little bits of weight where ever you can on these cars to make an impact on the curb weight.

Video too long to watch. I one time got a gutted MK3 na to beat a GT Mustang from the 80s back in 03. It had a complete exhaust system, air filter and some tuning tricks of the day. Rip out all the seats, modify a 50 dollar non electric Celica seat from the 80s to fit.

My leather seats on my 91 supra are pretty shot! I was thinking of having them redone or putting aftermarket seats... problem is the rear... what have you done to rear seat? Delete? Kept?

I still have the rear seat in place since it's in good shape. My passenger is good shape too I just wanted to drop some weight and get some more support. Eventually I will get matching Recaros in leather so they look oem-ish. There rear has a bit of weight to it but it's not a ton.

I haven't seen anyone pull off a clean rear seat delete in a mkiii yet. Plus I have kids so eventually it will get used once in a while, no one else will fit back there haha.
