The whole “everyone has the same amount of time” is some primo gaslighting. Each person lives 24 hours a day, but that doesn’t mean we all have the same amount of unoccupied time. Stay-at-home parents especially are on duty 24/7, so those “pockets of time” in between cooking, cleaning, running errands, etc. are often unplanned, short-lived, and CHERISHED. I’m not sacrificing my (sometimes) ten minutes of reading time to hassle people to join my team; I enjoy my sanity, thanks. ✌️

The idea that I would have to pay to try a product before I sold it is wild to me. When I got hired at a winery they sent me home with bottles of the four most popular wines, and then encouraged me to taste and try the rest over the next few weeks when we had downtime in the tasting room. Because obviously I could sell wine better if I had personal experience with what they tasted like, their tannin levels, what they paired well with, etc.

After unknowingly joining an MLM, this was what I realized as well. It was for selling life insurance policies. We cold-called a lot and people would be at work and wouldn't respond until after I'd stopped for the day. If I were running my own, LEGITIMATE business, sure, I'd be more inclined to still try to make a sale after-hours. But after 9 to 10 hours of working, hell no do I want to then continue trying to work. I felt like I never had a break from working. Left very soon after joining (like, the next week, lol) and thankfully didn't lose anything but $40 for a background check.

I think it was two fold someone from the Mayo clinic was on the Arbonne board or a committee on wellness products or 30 days to fitness working. I don't remember if they actually evaluated products. I feel like it's worse to only pay a startup fee. Then the up line convince people that they need to buy products or a starter pack as well 'cause they need to use the products to be able to get people to buy the products and or join. Which makes sense to need to buy products. I wouldn't think that a person that only pays a startup fee can get any customers or others to join. It would be better if these startup only fee required would do a choice of a startup fee or a starter kit starting at $100. This is just a lame way to get people to spend more money, but people end up doing it.

TBH I did MLM for like 2 months. I quit, because I lost so much money in just 2 months. Ugggg. Thank God, I got out. 😅

On the value thing... Just because something is a "good value" doesn't mean someone has the money in their budget to pay for it. Maybe there's a brand new car available for $10K, but it has to be cash. Just because it's a "good deal" doesn't mean I have $10K in the bank to pay cash for it. Expecting people to fork over $100 for your product may be a "good deal", but if they don't have the room in their budget for it (for whatever reason), pressuring them to go for it to the detriment of their budget is inappropriate.

Even if these women were making, like, good points? About something I found important? I couldn't, like, take them seriously? Because, like, the way they talk? It's as if almost every phrase? Is, like, a question?

Did you hear her "this is how it was explained to me and that's how I understand it now" in other words "my upline told me this when she was trying to scam me and I never bothered to look beyond that"

i hate the argument about "starting your own business would cost so much more!" like, yes, obviously it would. but what if i don't want to be a business owner? what if i just want to make money? to GET a job cost me $0. (except for new shoes but even that wasn't 100% necessary upfront)

Spending 50 dollars without any product.. just the opportunity.. is that... is that not a pyramid scheme...

I’m so scared I’m gonna see my bff in one of these. She’s in a few MLMs. And runs a military spouse blog. I love her to pieces and admire her immensely so I don’t judge, I’m just scared she’s losing money believing the lies when she’s way too smart for that.

She just said my main issue!!! “You’re not selling a product” ummm sometimes you are! And there are some MLM products I actually like and even the dups I’ve found I don’t like as much. But when the band booster president won’t stop texting me about buying face soap when I’m trying to find out when and where to show up to be a chaperone???? Nooooooooooo Thank goodness I haven’t been asked about the opportunity yet because hell no. I just went to your pop up because I’m nice and you didn’t say what the pop up was for

I once visited my friend at home and found Arbonne products there. I didn't know what it was. Never heard of it at that time. But she had several products. She's kind of a health nut and so is her hubby and they really bought into this Arbonne thing at that time. I have always considered her to be very smart and intelligent. And now, watching these videos and realized that Arbonne is an MLM, I didn't think she's the kind of person to be roped in. Luckily she didn't sell me anything or even asked me to join (or maybe she did and I just said NO). We are still best friends, and I don't think I've seen Arbonne again at her home.

I love the Starbucks example because they never get it right. 1) they don't get paid to post. They post in the hopes of getting a sale or getting a recruit but the act of sharing and posting itself is not something that is monetized. It only works that way if its sponsored in which, yeah, you post and someone paid you for that. 2) when people outside of Starbucks share a drink they like, they do not benefit whatsoever from Starbucks and that makes a recommendation genuine! You have no reason to share other than the fact that you actually like it. When you stand to benefit from a recommendation, you're obviously biased and you aren't making the recommendation in good faith. Why should I trust their biased recommendation? They'll say anything to get me to buy. 3) maybe people don't need or want to monetize every aspect of their lives.
