A potential fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall might take place in the near future.
With Tom Aspinall having now claimed the UFC interim heavyweight championship, the table is set for a massive title unification bout with Jon Jones.
Despite taking the fight on roughly two weeks' notice, Aspinall knocked out Russian power puncher Sergei Pavlovich in just 69 seconds to claim interim gold. In fact, some lines were dropped for Jones vs. Aspinall before UFC 295 even began but have since been adjusted. With Jon Jones out for a lengthy period of time, however, Aspinall's next fight will likely be an interim title defense against a different opponent.

People forget the true meaning of the Interim Belt. It is the "real belt" while the Champ is out of action due to injury. In the interim, Tom is the UFC hw champ until Jon is fit and healthy. Upon which these two champions should fight each other to unify the belts. Tom should rightfully be proud of winning the Interim Title.

One thing we all have to remember JJ's resume at HW is nothing in comparison to Toms. Tom has a lifetime of experience at HW which is a huge advantage. Although JJ is a psychopath and a real competitor. I can't wait for this fight. I believe it happens. Jon has something to prove at HW and he knows it. A win over Tom is the biggest cherry on top and will forever be legendary status if he pulls it off. 36 is not old for a HW, but you gotta factor in that Jones started his career pro career at 21 and by 23 he was the champion so he has been fighting at the highest level for 13 years. He did have a long hiatus in-between but I think it's fair to say that Jones is slowing down and is past him prime. Not because 36 is too old but because he has been exerting his body for a decade. If he still felt young good he wouldn't be talking about retirement.
