Complete Custom Rifle Build (.375 Holland and Holland)

A deep dive into the custom gunmaking process. On this .375 Holland and Holland we start with a 2" Krieger barrel blank, a Granite Mountain Arms actions, and a piece of English walnut. We then fit it to the receiver, and machine integral front and rear sight ramps, recoil lug, and sling swivel. After making a pattern stock we machine the English walnut blank into the general shape of the finished stock on a stock duplicator. It's then hand inletted, shaped and finished. The wrap around checkering is done at 24LPI and finished with a mullered border. The slow rust blue finish is applied next to the hand polished metal work. This process takes a week to complete, alternating between applying an acid to the metal work to cause rust, boiling the parts, and carding off the excess. We then show some of the range time we put in before any rifle is shipped. The gun is thoroughly tested for function and accuracy.

Why not put a detachable bipod on it to save carrying the big clumsy rest mount around? If I went to the expense of buying one of these I would want a nice bipod for sniping shots. Also I noticed at the end the shooter was taking the brass fired cases out by hand. Do you suffer from ejection problems?

Always make the metal look like it was poured into the stock. I made the carbine stocks for John Martz Luger carbine maker from Lincoln, CA. and did alot of inletting of steel into English walnut. This stock here is beautiful.

Impressive work - thanks for sharing. Two questions - remarks (please forgive my inexperience / ignorance): 1) how many scopes are delivered with the rifle? why so many? (I saw three in the rifle case) Was it a customer's order? 2) checkered areas shouldn't receive finish?

Beautiful rifle and workmanship...BUT judging by the groups not a very accurate one (might be the shooter in fairness). In particular the "group" without the scope (at 50 yards) looks like it would make it a 3 inch group at 100 (which is poor in my opinion).

It's a rust blue metal finish. Polish work was done by hand to 400 grit.

I actually bought it from a hobby gunmaker that picked it up years ago from a smith in Colorado. It's definitely home made, but it gets the job done.

@@mnrcustomllc8253 Sooooo cool, Weatherby had several stock finishers in the distant past. The stocks were done in an ultra-high gloss, using Fuller O'Brien's "Fuller-Plas". It gave a very durable finish, but was very demanding to apply.

Not bad but I think the rear sight was filed on the wrong side for zero and I'm wondering why a see through scope mount wasn't made ? I noticed the scope needed to taken off for iron sight use !

Very well done. Nice to see a craftsman actually build a rifle. Lot of so called gunsmiths now think because they can thread and chamber a pre contoured blank. Bed it in a synthetic stock they are a gunsmith. Appreciate the time and skill it’s not only takes to do this but also thank you for the video progression.
