I remember this. The victim survived and now flourishes, focused on her future and I believe also on helping other people. Of the two girls who stabbed her, one who had a history severe mental issues such as hearing voices (if I remember correctly, her father had the same issue of hearing stuff that isn't there) is I believe released on the condition of having constant psychiatric care and 24/7 monitoring until some really late date like 2040 or so, because of having made great improvements and showing remorse. The other girl who showed zero remorse and was void of any emotion during her interrogations is still kept incarcerated and had all her attempts at parole were denied. I think she was found to have antisocial personality disorder (the modern term for being a genuine sociopath). Eric Knudsen, creator of the Slenderman story reached out to offer his apologies or such as well, never having thought people would take his creepypasta story serious.

It was so surreal being a longtime fan of the Slender Man Mythos, creepypasta, etc. in small chill internet communities and seeing sensationalist headlines like "Is the Slender Man Phenomenon the Next Manson Family?" It wasn't the Manson Family, it was the Beatles in that analogy: completely innocuous media arbitrarily invoked in a tragedy. This was one of the first events to shake my faith in journalism before the collapse of democracy lol, absolute vultures. Thank you for handling it with more grace and nuance.

This is a good example of how a lot of things go into these situations. These were two kids that were very vulnerable due to their undiagnosed disorders, but they also played off of each other. And while it might seem detached from reality to us, most people don't know the science to prove lots of things that we accept as reality. Like why the sky is blue, or that the tides are controlled by the moon. That doesn't mean that they're not true, but most of our lives is based around accepting a reality that we're taught by other people. And if your child best friend and you both are predisposed to enjoy and think about a certain fantasy as real, it would become your reality very easily as you bounce it back and forth in the biased environment of their interactions.

I remember this event. A meeting of fictional evil and REAL evil. Back in my day (I'm an ancient 52 yrs old), we got our supernatural fix by taking alien, ghost, and bigfoot books out of the library. Very tame compared to what is on the internet, and many parents do not parent very well, especially when it comes to limiting exposure to such trash. Mental illness egged on by evil.

It’s scary how f-ked up some kids are, but it’s how you raise them, what you in store in them. You teach them about god. You make them answer for there wrong doing’s… Kids need to know there’s consequences to their actions. Teach them about respecting others, teach them you treat ppl the way they want to be treated…. Teach them to help someone in need, show them love & kindness . In store good manners & morals in your children. I pray god helps this generation & the new generation🙏🏼

You only have to ask yourself, if Slenderman is real, who makes his suits and shirts?
@linollieum37422 жыл бұрын
Just in case anyone's unfamiliar with the details of slenderman, the character is a "creepypasta", which is basically a website/forum online that people came up with creepy horror style myth/characters. Basically like people making up ghost stories around a campfire that are designed to creep you out, but since it was online, the popular ones got a lot of attention, other people took and expanded upon them, and the character/story could end up becoming really well known and popular across the entire internet (slenderman is easily the most famous though even before this stabbing), slenderman ended up being turned into video games, movies, etc.
@CT-vm4gf2 жыл бұрын
It’s crazy that people just believe things on the internet, how naive and stupid do they have to be to not know the difference between fiction and non fiction.
@linollieum37422 жыл бұрын
@@CT-vm4gf I would disagree. For the most part, children are impressionable and learning how the world works and why things are the way they are. Some of the things children are taught have science, some of them are logic based, some are "just how it's done". But in the end, these kids are being told what to think for the most part. They can't prove gravity, or that the moon controls the tides. They're told that it does and that there's a scientific proven reason and they trust what they're told. At least those have clear science behind them, but to an extent, it's the same with adults being influenced by the media, but especially with these kids undiagnosed mental health disorders and bouncing the ideas back and forth off of each other, these kids were incredibly vulnerable. It wasn't naive or stupid, it was just unfortunate that these two kids with undiagnosed mental health issues that often struggle with staying in the norms of societal reality, tried to escape it together.
