Mockingbird imitates a car alarm

A mockingbird goes through all the cycles of one of those multi-sound car alarms, listen for the attention to detail when it even imitates the chirp of the alarm being shut off. When I first heard it, I was about to say, "Hey, that bird sounds like a car alarm." Then I realized, that bird sounds like a car alarm! They are like little DJ's sampling copyrighted sounds.

There is a car alarm is in his call. Mockingbirds like most mimics only imitate a couple of notes at a time from any sound. If you listen, more than one of the sections of his song come from car alarms and other human-made sources.

A mockingbird woke me up this morning mocking a ticking clock. I legitimately thought it was a super loud clock, and it was louder than the already super loud fan I had going in my open window. Thought it was an alarm from someone's phone or something.

They are the coolest critters! Had this one at my old house in Austin that gave daily performances of power line acrobats! It was an actual regular routine. And he made sure we were watching and if we paid attention to something else he'd stop and scream at us until we looked back at him, then he'd go back to his acrobats. The best way to describe it is picture a gymnast on a high bar but you can't see any hands lol 😃

We do have some Cardinals living in the trees near our house. But I don't know if it's that. Just the other morning I was able to record some faint audio of the bird calling so maybe I could find a way to upload it and get people's opinion on what it really is. The audio is very hard to hear though.

I was thinking the same of the mocking birds that live around our property. They sound so much more like a car alarm than this one. They sound almost exactly like my neighbor's car when it goes off, but I'm surprised because the car alarm has gone off in previous years, but not for the last year, and this is the first year I hear the mocking birds new "song". My husband thought someone's car alarm was sounding off around 4 am only to find out it was the darn mockingbird! lol. Ever since, I've heard them too, throughout the day.

So I’ve heard this song that takes me back to childhood each morning in my new neighborhood. And I thought that perhaps it might be the same birds we had in my childhood neighborhood. I realize it was a mockingbird. So the mystery is whether I had mockingbirds original ink, or if the bird has learned their song. A friend told me well at least the bird hasn’t learned a car alarm LOL and lo and behold…

I have seen them chase away animals and humans who got to close lto their nests . I love these birds .

About 50/50 they have their own calls and learned calls. www.allaboutbirds.org/mockingbirds-can-learn-hundreds-of-songs-but-theres-a-limit/?Cornell%20Lab%20eNews&Cornell%20Lab%20eNews%2007_14_2016&

The northern mockingbird does have certain noises or calls of it's own that it mostly uses to scare or intimidate enemies. Bird experts theorize that the medley of sounds the male imitates express his genetic strengths to potential mates; or in other words, the females choose the most worthy partner based on the quality of his "mash ups" of different sounds.

Just started seeing these in eastern Colorado. Cool at first to see a unique species of bird here, right up until I had come to find out that they, literally, sing all god damn night long..

I heard a blue jay, an oriole, a cardinal or two, a tree frog and one of those chirping ground squirrels but no car alarm.

If you're someone who doesn't recognize all those bird calls, the first eleven seconds could sound like one of those cheap car alarms that has a series of annoying patterns. I'm not sure if this bird was actually doing that or not and I'm not even sure if the guy who posted the video realized that.

Lillieannen Sorensen I heard a whip or will too. It did do a quick car alarm sound. Not sure the time frame.

I have even seen them do that fax machine noise. It almost makes me think they can intercept signals going to towers.
