Having installed many hundreds of Heli-coils in aircraft engine parts over the years, I found that it is quick and easy to cut off extra coils with a good quality pair of side cutters. The shape of,the cut from the cutters doesn’t seem to leave a burr, and the thread always screws in smoothly.
