For Googly Eye part: Go to edit mode, press H to hide the outer layer, L to select the inner middle circle, then duplicate (shift + D) and scale, G to position forward. Repeat for second white circle. For colour: L to select, then assign Google-Eye-Base white & Google-Eye-Pupil black materials to the appropriate layers in the inner part of the eye. After this press Alt + H to show the outer layer again. L to select outer layer to assign the Google-Eye-Plastic material to the outer layer. For transparency, select Google-Eye-Plastic in material properties > settings > blend mode > alpha blend. Go to Shading and in Principled BSDF, change Alpha to desired transparency e.g. 0.5 For Asset Library set up: Edit > Preferences > File Paths > Asset Libaries and choose name and path as desired. Also note the extrusion (for the inside of the box) needs to be done before applying the solidify modifiers (or you can check the checkbox that says 'rim only' for the solidify modifier for the body/box.)

For anyone stuck at "... select the body... " @ the 5min mark. Select a vertex on the mesh that is the body and press 'L' on the keyboard (Blender 3.4.1) If someone has already commented this, now there're two of us ✌
Your unique style comes out in the box robot character, great texture!! Love it!
@otherworlds9677 Жыл бұрын
Seems like the solidify modifier is screwing with the mesh when you extrude to make the box sink in from the top. Leaves faces from the revers side of the box. If you delete those faces you get a weird edge left over.
@bieneinderstadt4882 Жыл бұрын
I think he did it out of order. Even though he said to apply all modifiers before that step, look close and you'll see he did the extrude step *before* applying solidify and bevel.
@otherworlds9677 Жыл бұрын
@@bieneinderstadt4882 Yea, think you are right.

I had this problem with extruding too! I think an alternative solution is to tick the 'only rim' checkbox in the solidify modifier for the body/box so there are no faces on the reverse side of the box.

Shotty! Huge fan of your vids, just one thing I'd like to recommend, perhaps you alright know about it, but each time I see a video you make and go on the "Create loop cut, select half of the mesh, delete, mirror modifier" it comes to my mind that I should mention Blender's Automirror addon, which makes the mirroring process faster and simpler when it comes to X-Axis mirroring.

What did you do at 8:10 to edit the pupil of the googly eye? I'm stuck at that. I sincerely think your tutorial would be way better if you took 3 seconds to explain somethings that maybe to you are "obvious", but to the people who are learning are not obvious at all.
@severorodriguez8741 Жыл бұрын
Ok, the thing I didn't get was how to hide the "cornea" to get to edit the pupil. How long would it take to say "hit H to hide the cornea". It took me longer than this tutorial's duration to figure out something that you could've said in 5 seconds. Your tutorials are pretty good, but just little things like that really make following along frustrating and discontinuous.

Thanks for the tutorial, but it was hard to follow along because of how fast it was and the few difficult sections that needed explaining in the many comments. Without those comments pointing out the difficult sections and the hotkeys on screen being used (for half the video) I would be completely stuck. Also the sample pack's eye is comes out misaligned in every axis, I don't know how you just spawned it perfectly.

hey thanks for the tutorial, helps me a lot and i love the result. i have a question. from other tutorials i learned not to overlap meshes if i want to animate them or use them in games. did you remesh the model? or is it not true that its important not to overlap? arms, eyes, and legs are overlapping right? sorry if its a dumb question. hope you can help me out of my confusion

Hey Shotty, love your videos, they have helped me a lot. I have a question regarding character creation, I see you join all the meshes together before rigging, what are the best practices to keep a non destructive model with cloth, accessories etc organized? I guess there is no wrong answer, some people join all the meshes, other keep them in a collection and separate arms, body head etc but I would love to hear your recommendations. Cheers mate, keep the good work.

When I started deleting faces something went wrong. Apparently my head and jaw were getting duplicated over and over without me noticing and there was tons of redundant geometry that had to be deleted. Any idea how that happened? Is there a way to check for that? Is there an easy way to fix it?
@bieneinderstadt4882 Жыл бұрын
Duplicating in OBJECT mode duplicates into new objects. Duplicating in EDIT will leave duplicates in the same object. To sort out your mess, select a face, edge or vert and L to select LINKED then P to move to separate object.
