I live on a farm, but all these modern farmhouses (even the exteriors) are very very soon going to look as dated as the McMansions. Wish we could go back to the beautiful homes before they were mass produced. There is a timeless design when it comes to architecture, too.

Living in the mountains of Nevada, I tend more Western Goth. Seriously. I’m close to Virginia City. Look it up. It makes sense here. More than any other style. I layer it onto Mid Century Modern in the main house, and onto Cottage section built in 1944. Except for the back Tiki/Exotica guest room. It’s actually nicer than it sounds. It’s got Black Sapphire walls/ceiling and Tanzanite walls. Mirrored surface accents on the walls to bounce light. Metal lanterns hanging from the ceiling. It’s really lush.

That sounds amazing. I want to see your home. About a decade ago I told my husband I thought it would be fabulous to go with a Santa Fe Brothel style for our home in the southwest. 😂 My vision was based entirely on a gorgeous vintage sofa (dark orange velvet, curved back, channel-tufted). Hubs wouldn't get on board, but it was fun thinking of elements to bring in.

I just sold my 99 year old Tudor cottage and I miss it so much. Was the house I grew up in. I bought it in 2003 and was home again. Somehow my oriental rugs in each room, wine colored art deco sofa, sage green velvet wingbacks and all cherry antiques just don’t cut it in a newer home. I’ve bought 11 houses, fixed up the interior cosmetically and then sold each one in about 3 years- all were old English Tudors.❤

*The Blend* . I never bought into the Modern Farmhouse aesthetic, I've realized over the years that high contrast isn't my vibe. I do know my blend, rustic/vintage/cottage. I need a solid neutral base, and the coziness of mid-tone wood. I need my inside spaces to reflect the outside spaces as well. My home definitely reflects my essence; casual and cozy with timeless vintage elements.

I love that, even if the styles you feature aren't my jam, there's always so much inspiration in you videos, V! We started moving away from farmhouse about 4 years ago, but instead of adding things like you're showing here, we went more industrial and tropical. It just seems to fit in with living here in Florida. We're trying to create a home that fits in with our surroundings and the style of the house, and I love that it still feels like a tropical vacation inside (and my hubs hates wicker and caning more than I like it, so I'm here to say it can be done without those! 😆).

Estate sales are the best places for wonderful quality antiques (for cheap!) that could fit any of the styles you mentioned. Manor especially! My three living rooms are 3 specific styles: Arts and Crafts, Midcentury Modern and slightly Art Deco - so estate sales are triple dangerous for me!

I LOVE Vervoordt! I've not heard of his style being called French Country--that to me is something quite different. Usually his style is called Belgian Minimalism, I think, but you nail the style description and I agree that you can transition modern farmhouse to it. "Rustic and monastic" totally works for me. Of the six styles, this is easily my favorite.

From the PNW, near the coast: I like simple space forms, protection from the winter rains and shading against the summer heat. Natural ventilation, no air conditioning, no ceiling fans. No marble anything. For inspiration, I look toward the historic humble residential architecture of the Coast Salish people and laborers in Japan, China, and India. An interior courtyard? Flexible, adaptable spaces? Wide porches on all 4 sides? A material and color palette drawn from the natural environment in my location? Sign me up!

I love mixing old world with more modern. Too much of any style is too cut and paste. The richness in the materials (faux fur, wood, wrought iron, stone, pottery) makes all the difference. However, neutrals with pops of autumn colors make me feel the absolute coziest. This has been my preference forever, and I finally feel I'm in style. Yay me. LOL

The word “modern” is a hard word to conceptualize. Do you mean current, trendy, classic, abstract, minimal, or the true modern from the modern era? You also use the word “sophisticated “ but is that paired back, classic, clean lines, commercial, upscale, tailored? Abstract isn’t sophisticated to everyone. I hear you trying to steer towards texture as your patterns vs printed patterns, that makes design look timeless. Timeless has a sophisticated and modern feel without being any particular style.
