Taken at a Nov 2019 Class in Homestead, FL, I talk about how to build a reliable grip using the proprioceptive indexes of my middle finger on the firing hand and index finger on the support hand. I then doing a "wave" motion torquing my hand into the gun. For RDS Pistols this grip[ works well because the pinky is the last finger to torque in so it drops the dot down into place.

People are commenting on this video like it’s some new concept…..this technique is called “thumbs forward” and has been taught to military spec ops, SWAT, and basically all professional shooters for years and years. He’s doing a great job of explaining how to feel it though and I commend that. Although locking your wrist does not lock your elbow, unless you’re mechanically wrong in your presentation. But as a follow instructor, connecting with a student so the light goes on in their head and they can hopefully apply the technique properly is always the end goal. Calling it “the wave concept” is basically a way to market an already proven fundamental of shooting…..a good solid grip.

@@ModernSamuraiProject Okay, so you don’t have an answer for me. You once again assume I’m new at this. I called you out on another of your “concepts” that you could not explain and here we are again. You state I can do my own research, when in reality I’ve been a professional shooter since 1986 and have never heard of “The Wave Concept” until you. But I’m watching your videos and you are using a thumbs forward grip, explaining a thumbs forward grip, and then adding nonsense such as “it locks your elbow, which you don’t want” which is nonsense. You are good at what you do, but you are implementing your own title onto things that have been a standard for generations of shooting. You didn’t invent this, you are just giving it another name. If your viewers want to see a proper grip video, go check out what Travis Haley or Mike Glover puts out. Incidental….I love how you steal Travis Haley’s proprioception teachings into your own as if you also came up with that knowledge.

Some of the ideas here are good and useful, but the meaning of "up, over, and through" in the context of how to form a grip isn't totally clear. That seems like it is a description of "how it should feel". Perhaps it would help to also add a more detailed description of what the hands are actually doing through the motion?
@ModernSamuraiProject

Perhaps you should come to a class to get the full description of the technique.

@@ModernSamuraiProject I'd love to. You're booked up for quite a long time. I think your success has reached the point where selling your personal time doesn't scale real well. If you want to reach a broader audience, and still make sure you're getting paid (since youtube demonitizes anything gun), you might try putting out training videos or writing a book.
