This video shows a Sea Gull 12 string that was converted to a six string and has a great projection and tone.
I need to say that although this video shows some repair work that I did, I do not ordinarily do any repairs. I would much rather build new instruments than repair old ones. And it is all just a hobby.
Video was made using a Canon Rebel EOS T7 camera and a Zoom H6 recorder with an Audio Technica 3035 condensor microphone.

It had a really good sound and that is why I fixed the cosmetics. It sounded so good, it needed to look good too. Thanks for commenting.

Hey Earl, I think that’s the exact reason that the IBG Epiphone Hummingbirds, made in Indonesia, sound so great. Overbraced with a thicker top. It adds weight, but what a beautiful tone. The Seagull S12 that you hold is now a better built S6, I think. Great work on this one, brother man 👍🏻

Nicely done Earl! I like cedar and redwood for tops. When I carve redwood for my tops they are left thicker since its softer than red spruce. Years ago I was carving a redwood top and it just came alive. When I checked the thickness, it was way thicker than any I had done before. I went ahead and left it at that and that mandolin was one powerful mandolin.

There it is! I like cedar and redwood tops too. I used to use it often for tops on my mandolins. I believe I have built two guitars of each wood. But it seems hard for me to leave the "standard" thickness and go a great amount more. However, this guitar shows the effect that can be achieved.
