So cool man. Thanks for sharing your ev adventures. You’re on the he forefront. Once this stuff becomes popular you’ll have an edge. I recently modded an electric scooter. Replaced the 500w motor with a 1500w and upgraded to lithium’s 30a each. The thing rips. Anyway happy new year !

Wow - thats a f___ up about the lead getting stuck. They should have a way to reset it remotely from the call center. I guarantee you are not the only one that has happened to. What a stupid design on their part.

You could go for a duel system, turbine and panel. I think there about £360 eBay and Amazon so if no wind you can collect the sun ..the Panels are only 100 watts but you can add on additional panels as and when. Plus you get the duel charge controller .hope this helps

Same problem here but I was prepared or my plug was.Around your plug thre are 3 rectangular holes where the claw grips your plug. Use knifes, wire cutters or a Dremel to cut them a little bit longer. That is what I did and now I can unplug whenever I want. You still should show your card to the terminal and say good bye or you might be able to sponsor the next visitor charging. Cheers Peter and Karin

It is a bit of a cost extra but if you could buy or design a small trailer to tow behind the Twizzy with a battery bank for recharging would solar panels that could easily be folded and unfolded for traveling be helpful for long trips away from home ? There's people like me, even younger, retired or with nothing much to do and never been anywhere and cant afford much.... So much time and stuck in a box called home.... need to run away ... Slowly of course, maybe find some life along the way.??

Hi Andy, happy new year, I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago and follow your trials and tribulations with “alternative energy powered vehicles with great interest, I own an electric bike have solar panels on the house and love the idea of an electric car.I just think the infrastructure isn’t ready yet for electric vehicles in a larger scale. Also my partner and me are vegetarians. Will keep following your channel.regards Phil
@andykirby6 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, welcome! I think if you buy one of the latest EVs then you’ll be able to survive just charging at home, especially with your solar panels! Cool about the ebike and being veggie, nice one!
@mysurlytrucker75106 жыл бұрын
I am perhaps of the mark with this idea but could you use the battery a inverter and your car plugged into the inverter
@andykirby6 жыл бұрын
In theory yes, it’s all about the available energy in a battery and how best to get it into the cars battery. Via an inverter you are effectively stepping voltage up and then back down again when it reaches the car charger (which is basically a mains PSU) there’s some inefficiencies there but it could work. It would mean you could top up whilst parked without having to find a charge point!

Happy New Year Andy, hope it'll be a good one... Bummer about the chargepoint, but still early days - they should be taking notes to fix these issues in the future. Don't go for lead acid storage - start collecting 18650s and make your own powerwall/EV battery like I'm doing. Get a Batrium system to keep them balanced and add to them over time. This Type 2 to 13 Amp adapter lead has a key which enables you to manually release the cable in these sorts of situation evbitz.uk/EVBitz.uk/T2___UK_13A.html. The other option is to cut out the piece of plastic around the locking hole on the type 2 plug but someone can then steal your adapter!
@ross74646 жыл бұрын
DOH! See someone’s already suggested that one and you’ve already bought it! Great channel by the way. I was originally looking at buying a Twizy to do the run to the station but somehow ended up replacing our main car with an i3! Still looking at a Twizy but we can’t charge at home so have two EV’s reliant on public charging might be a stretch too far
@toyotaprius796 жыл бұрын
I can't get why the Twizy can charge at 32 amps but at 2.2kWh? It's been always a rule of thumbs that at 220 volts, 16 amps was 3.3kWh and 32 amps was twice that. If the Twizy is an 80 volt system, isn't it stepping down the charge it's getting?
@andykirby6 жыл бұрын
It’s 32A at 60V going into the battery, the charger inside the Twizy is 10A at 240V.

Should not be a big deal to add them to your adapter as well and cost for this is just a couple of pennys.

Hi Andy , I got a kit off eBay 150watt panel with plastic motorhome mounts which I drilled and mounted on timber strips , a control panel off an old motorhome and a battery similar to the one which you just got for your trailer. PS I got in trouble for climbing on the shed roof from Carole !! Good luck in Thomson !
@grandadp7986 жыл бұрын
I mean Tromso !!
@mikecox6456 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy glad to see you got your battery, as regard to having more for shed I would consider maybe a small wind turbine than solar panels .I have a 200 watt panel on my setup and to be honest im very disappointed with it, on cloudy days it puts very little power out, so im considering a small turbine ,.you can pick these up quite cheep, around £200 and they deliver 300 to 500 watts which I thing for my use would be better,as we get quite a lot of wind I have 2 ebikes one I bought from halfords, and one I built myself .but not on the same scale as yours .I want to charge my bikes from this setup but I don't think panels alone will cut it.. I love your videos ,keep em coming and have a prosperous New year . coming
@andykirby6 жыл бұрын
Haha! Be careful up there on the roof! I hope I’m able to do those things when I’m a bit older ;) sounds great about your setup, you should do a video... or let me know how it works out :) all the best!
@andykirby6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike that is very interesting, we get a lot of wind up here too so you might be on to something actually. I always thought you needed a huge turbine but £200 sounds like it won’t be so big. 300-500 Watts would be ideal. you’ve only got to store enough energy to charge the bike. I’ll have to look into this, your the expert! Have you got any recommendations?
@m4xww6 жыл бұрын
This may have been answered or picked up in another of your videos but you can dremmel out the tab on the lead which will allow you to release it.

What a complete waste of time electric cars are, always will be. Why not have a car with a proper fuel tank. I go and fill my car with Diesel and drive more than 600 miles without having to find a silly electric plug- Doomed doomed, you’re all electric dreamers you can keep them.
@andykirby6 жыл бұрын
I like being a dreamer! Also I still have a diesel but it sucks having to pay £60 of taxes to fill it up each time.
