I stil have two original Xbox's A standard black one and the crystal one, both chipped with 160 gig and 500 gig hard drives respectively. Stil surprised to see how cheap these machines and most of their games are, to this day.

As for the HDMI adapter, fill them in on the details. See, everyone was hating on the XBOX for being "OMG HUEG!!!111", but that's because it used standard size optical drives, and for its form factor, a PC sized motherboard. But it did something the PS2 couldn't do: 1080 (and 720) P. The PS2 could do 480P, but nothing else. Their form factor was basically due to using what amounted to a laptop DVD drive, and some specialized miniaturization on the hardware, while the XBOX was built on off the shelf components. Disclaimer: I play all consoles for good and bad, the PS had some excellent exclusive titles, and as both Xbox and PS are now sharing titles with minor differences, it's apples and oranges, or is that orapples? I've softhacked Sony consoles, Nintendo consoles, and handhelds. I have no favorites.

Found an OG Xbox in a gas station parking lot last week. When I turn it on it gives me a "service required" screen. So I opened it up and mannnn that thing is so dusty and very rusted. I'm going to use this tutorial to try to restore it and hopefully have my very own custom og Xbox. After all, what do I have to lose? Except time, of course.

I bet is the main IDE cable that is damaged. That cause the Hdd, DvD and motherboard ti have a bad connection. I know this because I screwed a screw through the damn ribbon when I tried to close it and the cribbing was on the hole without knowing. And I had to buy a new one. Bet you 20 bucks that's what it is

Love the mods man !! I use my dremil all the time ...had to Waller out front case holes for 1 fan on a rosewill case on my sons ryzen 7 1700x build ...he kinda had that dad what are you doing look on his face :) but no slips or accidents n can't tell any mod was done :) keep up the good work man!!

This brings me back, spent high school buying as is consoles and doing custom mods and repairs then turning around and selling them for $50 as custom/refurbished. A tip with painting console cases always give a light sand and an adheshion promotor works better than standard primer and always do a few layers of clear coat( gloss, matte, satin, what ever) it really helps keep them looking nice much longer

I scored one for $5 at the Goodwill liquidation outlet, they thought it was broken because it had a flashing orange ring. The orange ring means "Connect me to a TV you idiot.". I did, and lo and behold, it ran perfectly (had an OG copy of Halo that I also used to test the 360's backward compatibility). Had to go in and remove the clock capacitor, clean up the spooge, take out the Bazooka gum hardened thermal pads, replaced that with arctic silver, and install a mod chip after everything was cleaned up. Still have to install an SATA to IDE converted 500 GB HDD, but so far I've got no buyer's remorse. Even scored a near mint condition Duke controller for $5 a few days later.

As somebody that games on booth console and PC extensively, I can honestly tell you that the OG Xbox is one of the best consoles you could get if into PC gaming. It is a powerhouse when modded, and so many PC game ports on the system, as well as TONS of homebrew ports of classic PC games as well too. Plus, the bastard goes up to 1080i! It really was a beast when it released in 2001, and is still very impressive for something from that time.

I just got myself a crispy clean 1.6 version og Xbox I'm throwing a openxenium mod chip, LCD and a window and cleared gem in it and then probably getting some leds for the gem and controller ports. My paint jobs never last so I think I'm gonna get a vinyl sticker and call it done. 1 tb hard drive is a must save those disc drives their failing left and right.

i bought a used original xbox its softmodded with a ghost case (i think its ghost) as the original top was damaged, had to find a equivalent fan that is over the nvidia chip (original fan had gone bad), upgraded hdd to 160GB (original hdd was also going bad) and i have some blue/red led's inplace of the original leds im quite happy with how mine turned out

Cut it the same way I cut thr hole only placing it over the hole and used a sharpie to trace. And then stuck it down with hot glue.

Hey modstek, three things that I would like to address. 1. You should upgrade the HDD and ribbon cable, and get the Startech IDE to SATA adapter. 2. You should either upgrade your softmod to jRocky5's softmod or do a hardmod(TSOP FLASH or MODCHIP, I prefer TSOP for V1.0/1.1 xboxes such as yours.) 3. I F***ing love your videos. They're very entertaining.

My soldering sux I failed soldering the slow burn rgb led's the correct way. Solder wouldn't stick. So I soldered wires the led's instead. Don't think I should try tsop. I'm gonna check out that rocky's softmod tho. Thanks

@@modstek that's fair, if you do change your mind, it's literally just two spots on thetop and two on the bottom of the board that have to be shorted and then you run a flashing program. Rocky's softmod is noice. Good Luck.

I have that same model (1.1 I think) but it has a custom faceplate with USB and lcd and an executer3 chip in it that I can't get to boot anymore. It just goes to stock bios. I've been thinking of just softmodding it now.

You forgot the part how to unlock the harddrive so you can put a new harddrive western digital, then also you forgot to mention how to do the exploit cable USB to xbox controller WITH AN ORIGINAL XBOX CONTROLLER and have the right USB and then put the files in there and also get the splinter cell, it is a certain version of splinter cell has well, all this info is available if you Google search. But it would be nice if it was on this video, idk maybe a remix to this video adding the things I mentioned and other steps I might of forgot. But other than that your xbox looks sick 😎 and the adventure of it was awesome that's probably you got haters not liking it because they can't do what you just did.. yeaaaaaaahh.

So the one bit of this entire video that I wanted to see was the installation of the clear acrylic panel and custom lighting inside and you showed none of how to do that bar cutting the panel out and spraying the console a fucking weird green. Good job.

1. that shielding needed treating and all you did was wash it with water no proper treating it. 2. that is not how you should really spray paint (i expect in person it doesn't look so good) 3. paste looked fine so didn't need replacing (most times it doesn't on these) 4. freezing is best method to remove jewel 5. why not tsop 6. did you remove clock cap
