Thank you Sandra 🍒 great tutorial! I have a question for you. I've been trying to find out which acrylic (or part acrylic) yarns are the the best and also have a good color selection. I believe you you Style Craft. Does it tend to do well in the wash and not pill too much? Does that yarn have a lot of shine ? I tend to go for less shine and it's difficult to tell on the computer. I also saw a brand that was 80 percent cotton and 20 percent alpaca. Have you ever worked with anything like that? I was glad to see that you put up another podcast. I haven't been able to watch it all yet. Best to watch when the house is quite and my little Dash is snuggled up to my side. Melissa

@jeniferepkey3426
@jeniferepkey3426 4 жыл бұрын
Fantastic tutorial and very clear to see everything you are doing! I may have missed you saying, and I apologize if I did. I do not mean to be a bother. Did you leave the tails of the white squares long knowing you would use them to crochet them to the colored squares or did you really join as you made squares? Meaning, didi you make a few squares, join them, make square, add them on, etc.? My future solid granny square afghan I plan to use 15-16 different colors (no white) I can't decide it if makes more sense to make all the squares and leave long tails for future seaming/crocheting together. Or if I should just start randomly joining them as I go. Hmmmm Thoughts?
@CherryHeart
@CherryHeart 4 жыл бұрын
As I knew I'd be using only white squares for the joining, I made all the colourful squares first (with ends woven in) then I did all the joining with the white squares after, so I finished each one as I went along. But if you are not using the white it sounds like you might be better off leaving tails for seaming together later. I did that with another blanket of mine and it worked out quite well. Of course if you are doing that, you could always make the squares and just join them in a more conventional way later once you are happy with the arrangement... this method just happens to suit the alternate squares especially well but it totally depends what joining styles you prefer I guess!

Hi Sandra, thank you for this tutorial, this is really useful to see it done in 'real time'. How much of a tail do you leave for the white yarn to join the the squares? Thanks!
@CherryHeart

Hi. Thanks so much, so glad it helped! I don’t actually cut the yarn of the white squares until I’ve done the join. I worked up a whole bunch of colourful squares at a time so that I plenty ready to go. ☺️

YoonJi Annie Kim I was planning to block my blanket but actually, as it’s growing I’m not sure it’ll be necessary, it seems like the size and weight of it will take care of it for me, but you could certainly block if you like, or if it’s for something smaller maybe.

Hello & thank you Sandra, I enjoyed your podcast and the tutorial. Your blanket is lovely. I have a question please - if we make a batch of white squares up before we start joining, approximately how long should the tail yarn be to work around two or three color squares? Is there a formula you use depending on the square size? Thank you!!
@CherryHeart
@CherryHeart 6 жыл бұрын
Jill Pohren to be honest, part of the joy of this method for me was avoiding having to do that very thing! 😉 I’m not sure how much as I didn’t do it, but I can tell you the (very unscientific) way I judged it for my weekender blanket if you like.... 😉 Make up a white square, and work the round of dc’s (us sc’s) that you’d need to join. Leave yourself a tail and cut the yarn. Then unravel that last round back to the point where you have just finished the square. Now see how long that tail of yarn is. As a rough guide to how much to leave for all the others, I wrapped this long tail around the flat of my palm and just counted how many wraps it took - just as an easy way to measure... I think I might have added an extra wrap, just in case my tension varied slightly or something ! Ha ha, see, technical! 😂😂 Hope that helps. S x

Hi- I love your blanket and am making it as we speak....I dont understand however, how your joining method is JAYG. You have to complete each square before you can join, right? @CherryHeart
@CherryHeart 6 жыл бұрын
syrahlover well, I am in the video because I had to pre-prepare some squares ready for the recording. but usually, when I make the blanket, the yarn is coming straight from the ball. (In other words, I make a white square, use it to join some colourful squares, cut yarn, then make the next white square and so on...). I hope that makes sense!
