This video was a catalyst in reconsidering my Eurorack equipment. I appreciated the idea of visualizing an instrument. I had given too much time and money to variety, not wishing to limit what I could do with the equipment. The reality of having one of everything made it a dictionary where the words were not arranged in any order. Subsequently to write anything using words I did not know was frustrating and detracted from making music. Thanks

Awesome little setup! Looks like a blast to play. You probably already know it but if your still looking for a way to start/stop the sequencing you could run your clock trigger into the Mimetic Digitalis N input then patch the MD’s T out to the steppy clock input. Use the MD’s stop/run switch to control starting and stopping both sequencers or hit Next on the MD to step through manually.

As a struggling synth/modular noob, I absolutely agree that the best advice for someone getting started with Eurorack, is to decide beforehand *exactly* what you'd like to accomplish with your setup, otherwise you'll end up with hundreds or like thousands of $$$ worth of modules, but feeling overwhelmed with it all, having no clue where to start. I made the mistake of watching loads of KZbin videos of Eurorack module reviews/demos and of course keep an eye on the top modules on ModularGrid.net, and mainly acquiring all the "coolest" modules I knew about. But now I have hundreds of HP of extremely awesome modules, but I have analysis paralysis due to the infinite sonic possibilities I'm looking at. So, don't make my mistake: be specific about what sounds you'd like to make to get started with, for example, if you'd like to make tribal rhythms, or synth pads, or creative use of custom samples, all will require *totally* different setups! And bonus tip: don't make my initial mistake of avoiding digital modules, because of some arbitrary believe that my modular setup has be all analog! There's always a right tool for the job, sometimes it's digital and sometimes it's analog - don't be religious about your equipment, rather search for what sounds and feels good to you. :) Now only I could start to practice my own advice...

Isn't the whole point of modular jamming and exploring until you find something you like? "Know what you want before doing it" is 4 times out of 5 a useless advice. If you already know what you want, you don't need the advice. If you don't know, chances are the only way for you to understand what you want is to try things out. It would probably be wiser though to try things out in software before spending $ on hardware.

It can definitely feel overwhelming - I’m almost a complete noob, save for my limited experience with my behringer semi modulars and virtual modular. I think VM might be the best way to start for a newbie - especially the platforms that do accurate emulations of real world gear, like softube modular. I think its a great way to figure out what interests you or if eurorack is even for you. On the hardware side, Behringer semi modulars have been an incredibly fun and affordable entry into this world for me. Only have the Neutron so far, but very soon a K2 and perhaps a Crave...just no idea if I’m going to go further from there or which way to head next. Pulsar 23 drum synth definitely piqued my interest more than anything in the modular world and has the potential to jump start an addiction ;) Been on waiting list all year for this holy grail of drum synths.

@RickyTinez I think your question has been solved for years: Stop MD? I had the case that MD got its clock from my Keystep on "N" and the reset from the Keystep on its "0". (so that it does the reset and stops, which worked). Then I had a reset from Clep Díaz "stacked" on MD on its "0" at the same time. (So that I could limit the number of MD's 16 steps to fewer steps). I had an error there. I then stacked the two reset signals, not with cables, but added them together in a logic module (MI-Kinks). Then it worked. At the moment I have not readjusted it - and checked again whether there really is a difference ... or whether it was a coincidence. That interests me now ... I really like your channel, your music and your thoughts on modules. I'm currently watching your video again because there are so many ways of clocking MD+CD+Steppy together. I'm currently trying to find the one that I enjoy the most and the easiest. ( P.S.: however, I have a fixed cable harness for all existing clocks and resets for all modules. This is the only one that always remains connected to the main clock and mults. Because some of the modules are in a larger box, as I ran out of skiffs 🫣 to save time. When creating a new patch, I first decide whether I want to get the clock and reset from somewhere else for certain modules and then pull out that part of the string).

Oh man, I knew I shouldn't watch this video for Gas reasons. But I did. And this is the best set Eurorack setup I've seen so far, it fits exactly what I'd want it to do. I didn't know most of these modules and I'm actually developing a Midi Sequencer myself that has quite some overlap with the Sequencer modules you're using. This is definitely giving me inspiration to pick it back up, I haven't done much with it for a few weeks. Great video, great jam, great explanation.

Cool video! Having a skiff that can work as a stand alone minimal system is always a good idea if you want to just chase down some quick inspiration. I have a Make Noise powered skiff that does this: it only has a Mother-32, Pamela's Workout, Euclidean Circles, Tip Top BD808/SD808, Pico Drums, and Quantimator. You can get a lot out of a little with Eurorack and some imagination! Or, I can integrate that skiff into my larger system.

For 7u systems I like to put the 1u in the middle. Not really an option with my Intellijel cases, but back when I was mainly rocking Pulp Logic format (which is still kicking butt with the new modules), I'd always put the 1u utilities in the middle. It put them within a couple inch reach of the top row's jacks, and any blocking of the bottom row that might have occurred was probably already going to happen anyway. Not a fan of 1u at the top, but it always seemed like a necessary (and worthwhile) sacrifice on the Intellijels due to the great external connectivity it facilitates. So you do the 7u's upside down? Do you have them on a stand?

Holy moly! Wowsers! DJ Chariot please Tinez don't hurt em. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE when you do jams like this please make an album of this stuff and take all my money Whoooooo! (Rick Flair) . I got the hed nod that will break ya neck! You make the most awesome techno music. Man I love your jazzy stuff but this drum machine tiny modular stuff you do is in outer space wow. One of my favorites you did was drum machine on your right small.modular in the middle and you had the black box on the left and man what a funky electro explosion. Could you please put together a playlist with these specific types of videos together. I get this itch to take a ride in the Chariot but you have so many videos it's hard to locate them sometimes. One more time I have to say I am a HUGE techno fan from way back in 1991. I have always loved it but a lot of times the music is great but not perfect you know what I mean? I often find myself rewinding a certain section to get that rush from certain songs. What you do when you just freestyle like that is in my eyes the PERFECT techno. No cliche build ups no fancy drums but that crazy modulation with the sequencers is such a groove. I have to say you might be on the edge of really having a unique style that just hits the spot. Keep doing you because it's awesome.

I'm extremely new to synthesis, and I was wondering how you could "put up with" hearing the same sequence over and over. Then you brought in the Digitakt and pushed play! You were "hearing" the end result, not what was playing. What an awesome payoff for a bit of playing.

Sweet video Ricky! I've been looking into smaller and more compact cases too lately. Your stuff is very inspiring! Cheers! Btw: the MD has a run/stop switch! It's a tumble switch next to the inputs up top ;)

Props on making usable bass lines and music with your modular. I'm used to hearing blips and bleeps the whole time. Lol I want to get into modular because it looks so fun and creative.. I'm just a little concerned I won't make many songs with it, but this video was motivational!

Last year I plunged into a little 48hp box. Had to have Rings and Plaits and Doepfer A151 sequential switch. Then rounded it off with Instruo Harmonaig. But it's all been under the bed this year. I kind of wanted Rings into Clouds but thought Harmonaig would transcend that with chords. But Harmonaig needs 3 or 4 oscillators and it's all as bit uncontrollable chordal arpeggios.

Great video. Noise Engineering stuff is amazing and Stephen is the most lovely humble guy. Also didn’t know about this Intellijel case which looks dope! Oh and I couldn’t go to KnobCon this year unfortunately but it’s always so much fun. Next year hopefully.

a lesser-known, but genius module is the Klavis MixWitch - very similar to the Lapsus Os in concept, but in some regards better: only 8hp, +log mode-button + instant on/offs - button + cv/clock/button - addressable switch (!) - big, quality knobs-pots :-)

You gotta clock that MD X/Y with two different patterns from steppy. Or use a sloooow clock into clep diaz and have it sequence the Y CV while you clock X normally.

Great Video! Inspired me to build a similar case and get the Lapsus Os. Another good trick is to mult a manual trigger to the Reset of the Steppy and Random of the Mimetic for endlessly evolving timbral variations in the same pattern. More dope videos please!
