I Built a Luxury Doghouse with a POOL

This time I show how to build an epic DIY doghouse with a dog pool and LED neon sign feature wall. Check out ARIAT CREW here: bit.ly/3qwD7Hb
I went all out for this one! I built this modern lean-to style doghouse like a human home...it is full insulated, with insulation in the walls and insulation in the roof and floor. I used laminate plank flooring, and made my own plexiglass window. I used Trex deck boards for the pool deck, and a stock tank for the dog pool. The stock tank pool will serve double duty, since I can fill it with ice, and use it as an ice trough for beverages when I have parties up on my rooftop. I also built a green wall with a custom LED neon sign, which was the biggest splurge of the project ($400!). I also added solar wall fans and silver exhaust fans to help with ventilation and keeping the dog house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. All in, I spent about $3000 building my dog Tex a dream doghouse with dog pool. What do you think - was it worth it?

Suggestion: If you can put up a couple of tall plants to increase the shade of the area that dog house is placed it will help keep it cooler. That brick wall + Dark colors on the dog house are going to absorb/reflect heat all day and for most of the night. A temporary solution would be a deck umbrella.

8:30 if you want it too stay cool in the summer you should've painted the outside white. The interior color doesn't really matter, since there wont be much light there to reflect or absorb anyway

Wow 😮, I just watched Drew Builds Stuff building his dog’s house and then your video popped. It’s really nice to see how caring pet owners are. The pool was a great addition to help your dog cool down. Drew mainly focused on keeping his dog warm. Love your build! I would add some sort of protection maybe a plastic cover to those electrical bits inside the dog house just to be on the safe side in case your dog gets bored and decides to chew on that.

While this was more of a "for fun" project, you have all the basic techniques used in building sheds pretty well nailed down. About the only thing I might have done differently was to build the window in the shop, as a two layer pane with weather sealing. Not a true insulated window, but significantly more insulated than a single pane. It looks like Tex is enjoying it, which is the end goal. So, good work.

I agree, this is certainly more than enough for one good boy :) I think you got all the main points of concern, about the only thing I would add, is to consider adding insulation in to the voids at the corners before adding the exterior, but it shouldn't make a huge difference.

As a four-times-per-week volunteer at our local animal shelter, can I just say WOW! Congratulations to Tex on winning the jackpot in doggo daddies! I hope Tex gets lots of use out of his swank pad. Are you at all concerned about cleaning the inside the doghouse, considering it's a bit difficult for a human-sized critter to get into? Maybe hinge the roof for easier access? 3 of my 4 rescues came from really bad situations, the first 3 are so thankful. The 4th was deaf and pulled into an amazing shelter right away. I’m forever thankful she’s never known the hardship the other 3 have had to endure, but her attitude is completely different than the rest, takes everything for granted, not a problem, just amazing to see the difference. No, it’s not because she’s deaf, she’s my second deaf pup, one of the three was deaf, we use sign to communicate. Rescues forever.

This is an awesome idea. It's so nice to see how much you care about tex. Its great that you have lots of grass however on the decking and particularly in the penthouse, it's quite a slippery floor for dogs. This could result in Tex having quite significant joint pain in the future. Maybe some kind of memory foam mattress or carpet in the dog house to make it more comfortable for him and reduce that joint pain.

I might have considered is two layers of insulation since it looks like it would have fit, and that would have upped the r-factor a good amount. I think I would have also placed an interior ceiling to prevent any possibility of foam getting chewed, or falling and getting chewed.

Hello there ! great video, you are really caring for your dog ! Nevertheless, I can't stop but wonder why you paint the interior white and not the exterior ! Black paint is absorbing all of the heat, unlike white. painting white inside will not change a lot I believe, isn't it ? Also, puting a small guter could be cool to do rainwater catchment, either to fil the tub or a small water funtain for your dog (after filtration maybe ? not a water expert). On whole other lever, you already put solar, why not adding a small box to put a cooling system for the tub ? you could cool the tub for your dog during the heat waves and use it to cool beverages when you intertain ! Good luck for the rest of your projects !

Good idea for the tub! Regarding the black exterior... It's a balance of aesthetics and function. With the insulation I crawled inside on a 95° day and the inside of the dog house was at least 10 to 15° cooler with the fans moving air nicely through there

@@modustrial You are always fusing usefull with beautifull with your videos, so I understand ! The simplest way to know if the insulation is enough is to put a thermometer, you will know easily if it works as you intended. Just FYI, a french company is painting commercial roof white and the results are pretty amazing: the roof can be 59 fareinheit cooler and the interior 44, so it can be worth considering, maybe only for the roof. No mater what, I will follow the rest of your journey :) Thank you for the reply !

Yep, and painting the inside white has zero effect on solar heat gain. I know he's going for a certain aesthetic, but the entire outside (including roof) should be white. Closing in the window will help get the space warmer in the winter (greenhouse effect), but it's going to make it hotter in summer. Creating a removable framed acrylic piece would've worked best for all seasons.

I wouldn’t recommend real ivy here but there are old brick buildings in Denmark where the ivy is kept and only trimmed occasionally as the bricks are too dense for the vines to damage it and the leaves form a protective barrier against wind and rain which otherwise erodes the brick over time. I do believe it heavily depends on the bricks and the ivy though.
