When they shows off MODOK's face for the first time in the theatre I went to watch the film at, the entire theatre erupted in a very audible laughter. It was absolutely hilarious. I do admire their attempt for trying to accurately adapt the comic counterpart, but man the VFX definitely needed more time. It's ironic how one of the main plot points of the film is Kang wanting to grant Janet more time, and yet Marvel Studios refuses to do the same for its VFX hires.

You are absolutley right, the VFX industry is famously overworked and underpaid, and there has been a big push to unionize recently because of how poorly the editors and VFX studios are treated. I had the exact opposite effect on Kang the Conqueror. If anything, this movie was the first one that I felt should have presented him as a legitimate threat, but ended up making him feel like that annoying returning villain in video games that keeps popping up to harass the players, when the player just wants to move on. The things he said about his experiences and how much power and influence he has, and the way he was ultimately defeated with such ease only served to give the impression of a weak wet towel of a villain. The end credits also didn't really do any better of a job, introducing other Kangs that all looked like complete jokes.

@@Us3r739 I mean that'd be a fair point, and would make sense, if that wasn't the strongest Kang. The council feared him, and banished him into the quantum realm because that's all they could do. And he was "the most feared".

Majors’ Kang had such a strong screen presence and was so legitimately threatening at first that I was starting to think this would be a decent film. So you can imagine my delight by the end as he just sorta hopelessly watches as big scott fcks sht up like he can’t teleport outside and end him in a second, and how his energy blasts, which were just ATOMIZING people, just kind of pushes the main characters pretty far, oh and how the sight of ants makes him “kind of forget” to use his powers. I’m suspending my disbelief to have fun watching very small people battle for the fate of the multiverse, but please writers, at least try to make is make a bit of sense within your own context.

Definitely Majors was not the problem in this movie. And what I'm guessing is he's not dead, he'll return in Dynasty of Kang and I'm guessing he's in even a more smaller universe and he'll slowlu work his way up, which makes sense but seeing Kang on and on makes it a bit boring

They’re actually stretching the workforce to a pretty short timeframe & budget-wise thin situation right now. They’re groups of multiple contractors, not an employed situation like in some game development I’m pretty sure there are trade/industry articles covering this situation Also, to the person comparing live action CGI to Mappa, which does full animation, I gotta say the medium’s still quite different. In pure animation, you don’t have nearly the same challenges of blending/emulating with reality the way you do in live action CGI. Because visually, there’s no “grounding” that can trigger an uncanny valley experience easier and takes a viewer’s suspension of disbelief on a snap. Although being said that, anime fans do tend to have that quick reaction too when 2D is mixed with 3D, so it’s not exclusively a live action CGI thing, but it’s much easier to happen in live action

Saying “marvel hasn’t been good since endgame” is a poor attempt to generalize after a checkpoint. After endgame we got Spider-Man Far from home & No way home,Shang chi, wandavision,Loki, moon knight, hawkeye, multiverse of madness, werewolf by night, guardians of the galaxy holiday, and wakanda forever. I personally liked more than that but I was just mentioned what is generally considered “good”.

I actually really liked the first 2. This felt like a fever dream, like if you made AI watch Marvel movies and then have it make its own. I enjoyed some of the scenes as “so bad its good” like almost every scene with Modok, the one where they eat the squid alive and then it becomes big and eats them. Or the one where they’re huge and hug each other and talk about food… Listing them out like that, it also does sound like a fever dream. There definitelly are memorable and even enjoyable parts, just the movie as a whole is a mess. As someone who is a fan of surrealism, I like fever dream movies. I understand though that might not be the case for most people.

You’re too highbrow for this channel, my friend. You should start your own channel. I agree with your take for the most part. But Marvel movies (up until the last 3) have been phenomenal in evoking strong emotions and creating tension. Strong story arcs and storytelling. This movie fell well short of that. Everything since MoM has kind of been a mess. There’s surrealism, but there is also a distinct lack of focus and concision with storytelling and plot. At least it wasn’t Love/Thunder or Wakanda Forever. Those afflicted me with a depression from which I will never recover.

My only issue with Kang was how he became a pushover when Scott and Hope came to fight him at the end. Dude was controlling everyone with his tech, telekinesis shit and all that, and he was DISINTEGRATING PEOPLE left right and center. Then Scott and Hope show up and, well, he can't disintegrate anyone? He can't manipulate anymore? It's like playing a fighting game and suddenly forgetting all of the inputs of the character you're playing. I mean, if it showed that his suit was running out of power or something I would understand but it did not show that, so he just became a pushover by the end. Also a nitpick I have is how often they remove their helmets. Like, can you keep them on for more than 10 seconds without taking them off? I dunno it's just super distracting for me, and also kinda sucks for the team that put time into making the costumes see that a specific and crucial part of their work is just glossed over. Edit: people for the love of God I am talking about the moment before the ants showed up for crying out loud. How difficult is it for you to understand? Holy shit you are dense. And why do you bring up the part that he needed them to get the core? What part of "fight at the end" do you not understand?

I feel like one of the main issues with Quantumania is that from the start it probably wasn't meant to be the kick-off point for the new phase, So they wanted to make a specific movie but then because they also wanted to make it more. My theory is that the original plot had Modok (with the same backstory) as the main villain, with Kang being the "shadowy mastermind behind the whole thing" revealed at the end. But then the higher ups were like, "Nah we did that with Thanos already let's have Kang be the main villain." so they just rewrote the whole script to fit the "grander phase design". Multiverse of Madness had similar issues. Originaly Wanda wasn't supposed to be the main villain. But because one of the script writers or something saw that they were building up to Wanda becoming a villain he wanted to make that movie so he fundamentally altered the movie to steal Wanda as a villain from a future movie, with no real plan on how to make Multiverse of Madness good with evil Wanda.

@@surveyor1515 Yeah I agree, I am a huge fan of the Puss in boots movies, I have watched all of them (the one with jack and the beanstalk multiple times, and my mom also loves that movie) aside from this most recent one. I only found out about it airing in mid January. I really wanted to have the spoken language be in English and as I don't live in an English speaking country, it was quite a challenge to find a suitable screening. Very surprising honestly, since Norway's English language skills in school education are some of the best in Europe. In spite of that our great and totally not infuriating Cinemas, have collectively decided to dub over every single movie they deem to be "for kids", instead of just having Norwegian subtitles. There were apparently a select few English language screenings but the last one I saw was the Sunday in January that I realised it was airing, then none for weeks. However thanks to your comment I just checked and there is a single cinema in "my area" having English screenings, yay :). It will take me 50 min (give or take) of public transport to get there, but I will take what I can get. Sadly no subtitles, be they English or Norwegian. Not so important to me but, my mom is not the most proficient at English, so I might have to whisper some translations throughout. Luckily it seems that there are only two seats sold so far and, it's the biggest screening hall in that cinema. Now I have something to do this Saturday and can give my mom a late birthday present :). I really hope we continue to get more gems like this in the future, be they 3D animated, 2D animated or stop motion.

I think marvel has fully committed to the route of filming movies with the intent to make them extremely marketable to get people into theaters and make a lot at the box office and completely give up on trying to make the movies actually good. I mean they've already been like this since the first avengers, but this and love and thunder were filmed solely to make a lot of cool ads by shoehorning cool characters into the movie for marketing but giving them a really minor and insignificant role in the film

Seriously though it's pretty pathetic. I realize he was missing a bunch of equipment and whatever from being trapped in the realm, but he was still shown to be powerful enough that he could just flick his wrist and crush every bone in a person's body or vaporize them with a quick blast that the Ant suits just so happen to protect you from. He states he's killed all the Avengers multiple times... then gets taken down by the Ant-Squad and some random rebels? The rebels were basically inconsequential though, so basically 100% the Ant-Squad? Thanos was a massive threat so I don't doubt they can make Kang into one as well, but this is a ROUGH start. One version of him lets a Loki stab him with no resistance then another version gets beat by these guys. AND the aftercredits scene makes the Order of Kangs or whatever look like a bunch of loonies.

Scott drowning in his own variants was very claustrophobic and him getting brutally beaten by Kang actually made you doubt for a moment that Scott was gonna make it out alive. The problem with the VFX in this movie was not that the quality of the artists' work is declining, it's because this entire movie was clearly shot with a "fix it in post" mentality. There's an overconfidence in the massive overworked army of artists that they didn't bother to design much of anything before they shot, so 90% of the film is just actors in front of a green/blue screen interacting with nothing. What you get is a weird, disconnected mess with poorly implemented compositing and set extension. To be fair, I think that actually kind of works for this film. It's all clearly very fantastical and you're not meant to take it seriously for the most part. Ant-Man as a series is a comedy. Whether you find it funny or not is up to taste but I'm a bit confused why anyone was expecting anything other than a comedy.
