I saw what was coming without it ever being spoiled for me in the first place. It was *_really_* obvious what you were going to be doing because of all those empty man-sized cabinets that were in almost every room. Not to mention that part, where you're walking around the halls in the dark, was basically right out of PT. Played enough Alien: Isolation to know exactly what kind of gameplay it was going to entail. So I was always mindful of where the cabinets were any time I entered a new room so I could remember where to go if I was chased. So not much about the doll section was particularly scary, and overall it was actually quite short. It essentially just came down to spatial awareness, if you were more aware, then it wasn't going to be nearly that scary, or difficult.

It's always bad and cheesy in RE games. That's part of the charm. It's like Charlie hasn't played a single game in the series. Heck, when first entering the village, he goes "Where did everybody go? Bingo?" So dumb, but gold.
@burrito46143 жыл бұрын
i honestly loved ethan. he kinda reminded me of leon, but just not badass and much more mysterious. i loved how his face was covered up, i loved his role in the ending, i loved how he egged on the main bosses to kill him, and i loved how his backstory made him a better character by showing how much shit he’s really gone through.

I agree with most of the criticism, except for one big thing: I think Ethan's character was done so much better in Village. Yes, there were some cringey lines every half hour or so, but he actually has a personality in Village, and says lines other than "oh shit" or "fuck you." This game made me feel a lot worse for him than RE7, and really hit home that Ethan isn't STARS or a Redfield. He's just a normal person that got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, but still doesn't lose sight of what's important to him.

Actively disengaging yourself from an experience, especially with friends, RUINS so many things. Like, I have lost count on the number of GOOD movies I've tried to show friends who would have loved them if not for the douchebag third wheel they brought along who spent the entire movie talking and nitpicking every little thing instead of just taking himself a little less seriously and enjoying it for what it was. Same shit with horror games. If you have a bunch of people talking to you, you're more likely to be wholly disengaged and laugh at the horror rather than be focused. @@ROBOTPETER101 Yeah but lately Capcom seems to be trying to make RE more serious so it was a bit jarring hearing the cheesy dialogue in this one. RE4 knows exactly what it is, a fking awesome survival horror game full of over the top and cool shit, it embraces the cheesiness just like the first 3 games, that's why it doesn't feel out of place.
@ROBOTPETER1013 жыл бұрын
@@tricko8000 I mean, I'll argue that the games have certainly been fairly more serious, but only in the sense that Resident Evil 1 and 2 were more serious games by result of the main characters being completely new to everything, so all the goofy over the top stuff was still treated as terrifying threats. Poor dubbing mainly due to the time not withstanding, considering even the much more (overall) serious Silent Hill had that problem. Heck, even by the end of 7 Ethan had basically started acting more in control and even acknowledging the somewhat silly nature of the horrifying situation he was in, so the shift in Village is, if anything, less drastic and sudden than Leon's shift in character from 2 to 4. Hell, Ethan is barely a step away from being Deadpool in how little he needs to care about dying at this point, I can see him taking a bit of the piss when he's threatened with it.

@kikohogod57043 жыл бұрын
@@Gongmatron Yes. I think it's that desperate feeling, which lacks a lot in this game, is what makes resident evil games suspenseful/scary. In re2 remake they did a really good job with this. Simply traversing the police station is stressful because you know that there's still zombies in that one room, and you have very limited resources to deal with them. You have to carefully plan out your path or you could easily die. In village you usually have plenty of ammo, and you can just run and gun through everything. Then again, village is obviously not meant to be totally scary, and it does a good job of balancing between horror and action.
@jonathanborba92803 жыл бұрын
Each boss and area uses a different type of scary. Lady D uses being constantly attacked and chased and tight spaces. Doll house uses creep factory and atmosphere. When it comes to horror games, you always wear headphones and shut off the light for full immersion. When you play a competitive shooter, you wear the best headphones you can so you could hear every sound, etc. Why would that be any different for horror gaming? It's like watching a horror movie with 100 people in a movie theater, or at home alone. The difference is night and day.
