Listen to this whole album! It’s fucking amazing. This is one of two original songs they put in the concerts, and easily the more successful of the two, but pretty much every part of it is worth listening to… or watching if you can get the video version. Songs flow from one to the other in places, it starts with the orchestra playing a Sergio Leone song “The Ecstasy of Gold” that Metallica always plays before walking on stage, then goes straight into “Call of Ktulu” followed immediately by “Master of Puppets.” And that’s how the show STARTS. Listen to this album, to repeat it.

1. Yep, Original. 2. The collaboration between Michael Kamen and Metallica began in an unconventional way and became a milestone for both classical music and rock. It all started when Michael Kamen, a renowned composer and conductor who had worked on film scores for movies like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, proposed the idea of doing something entirely new with Metallica. Kamen had already worked with them on the song "Nothing Else Matters," and one day James mentioned it would be nice to work together again. A few years later, Kamen approached them with the idea.

@artsilva Yeah, the better version of literally EVERY song that's on both releases is the S&M 1 version. I find the crowd way too noisy in the mix in 2, and James's voice was just objectively better in 1.

This song was composed BY Metallica FOR this concert. The reason Metallica meshes SO WELL with the orchestra is because they compose ALL of their music as a classical arrangement. That is the process they use THANKS TO LARS. He arranges most of the songs.

This is a whole concert. It is awesome. Hearing your fav Metallica songs this way is amazing. Battery, One and For Whom the Bell Tolls are insane. They would never have done this in the 80s, but 90s Metallica was a different beast. If you want violins, then do A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold. It is a crazy song. It's a Halloween type of song with violins, woodwind and brass instruments. It is strange at first but it is a masterpiece. The music video is wild but comes with a parental warning.

GREAT reaction MollyBoy! Original song done for this album. Seriously - check out the entire album/video of S&M (Symphony & Metallica) - the marrying of an orchestra with Metallica's music is nothing short of magical and wonderful! Michael Kamen (RIP) expertly composed a perfect complement to their music! This is proof positive that music is a universal language, and that with some 'translation', it can be spoken at the same time! My ONLY gripe was that there was a few songs missing that I thought would be ideal for the orchestral treatment: Fade To Black and Unforgiven - they just scream for a full symphony to accompany! My wife (girlfriend when this came out) have listened to this countless times! We're both musicians that LOVE symphonic rock, but also metal - so this was bliss! They aren't the first. Deep Purple & The Moody Blues did it back in the late 60's - marrying orchestra with a 'rock' band, and they aren't the last. One year later (2000), the Scorpions released their own concert with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra - called Moment Of Glory - which is FANTASTIC as well! Metal and Classical DO go together!! Cheers.

When the album came out, they did a live broadcast on TV and showed them actually playing. Me and my brother and my dad we were all blown away.. so then the next day my brother went to the CD store got the CD and the DVD and we literally played it until the CD got scratched. It didn’t get scratched because it was dropped or something of that sort. It got scratched because it was played so much..

The album has a lot of their older tunes performed with the orchestra, but this one was written specifically to be performed with the orchestra. Symphony and Metallica is definitely worth checking out to get a fresh vibe on some of your old favorites. Really, there isn't any such thing as bad Metallica. Some of the music on their later albums aren't something I get super excited about. But there are some serious bangers on them, too. Really enjoyed the reaction. Keep that grind going.
