And yet she was the one who wanted grandbabies. I believe the mom when she said that because there's a lot of mothers who pressure their daughters into having children. She just didn't realize how much it would cost having children and now she's flipping. You can't get blood from a stone. If I were the mom I'd start doing receipts for her hair braiding and then that way she can prove how much she's making. She could take it back to court to get a revision. It's odd that the grandma was able to do that without a lick of proof other than her word. Presumably the mom does her taxes every year and all she would have to do is provide them to prove her income. What it says on paper is what it's supposed to go by. If the taxes says she doesn't make any money then that's what it is. If I were the mom I'd stop doing any favors for the grandma. No more "church stuff", cleaning up for her, making dinner. Grandma wants to be paid child support? Fine. That makes her the effective parent and responsible for cleaning up after the kids and herself. The mom doesn't have to do jack crap in the house anymore. That would give her more time to look for a job and take her and her kids out of such a toxic environment. I just hate that smug look grandma had while she screwed her own daughter over.

@jessicaarmstrong50359 ай бұрын
I'm not sure that's what happened here. I think that the mom got screwed in her divorce and then the pandemic hit and she lost her main job. She's now braiding hair and honestly she's probably not lying about only making $80/head. The actual amount she makes is probably somewhere in between the $4800 and the $1200/month that they say. More like $2500/month. I would've based the calculations on that. If I were the mom I'd tell her mom that I'm no longer doing any favors for her and she can clean up her own house. Yes, it's your job to clean up after yourself and your kids. Nowhere does it say that you have to clean up after your mother. Nowhere does it say that you have to do "church stuff" for them. If the grandma wants it to be a straight transactional relationship I'd do that. I'd tell her that I'm moving out and that she can pay for everything and all she will get is the $700/month. No favors. No making supper. No cleaning up. Child support is meant to pay for the rearing of children. That means picking up after them. I'd never pick up another thing in that house that isn't mine. In fact, I'd square out a bedroom and say that's my space and I'll clean my own dishes, like a roommate. Because that's what the mom just made her into. A roommate who pays rent. I've seen the kind of culture that comes from being in church groups. Mothers expecting their children to be baby-makers. It sounds like that's what happened here. Grandma wanted grandbabies to spoil. She pressured her daughter into doing it and after going through hell is forcing the daughter to pay her when she knows her daughter doesn't have it. Her daughter will never be able to move out paying $700/month in child support. If I were the mom I'd move out with the kids. There are cheap apartments that you can get in rural towns for that amount of money. She can braid hair out of it and whatever she makes above the $700/month she can use to rear her children. Insurance isn't that hard to get. If you're on a low income you can apply for Medicare so that the kids are covered for insurance. She can apply to the state for benefits due to the loss of her job from COVID. It may seem like she was taking advantage of her mother but the fact is that when a husband takes a wife to the cleaners in the divorce you have nothing left. Sadly it happens a lot in many states because women virtually have no rights. Losing your main job makes it hard to give any money at all if you have to pay for things like gas and bills and such. I believe it that she didn't have the $400/month. And Judge Vonda just made it infinitely worse. The people who will suffer because of this will be the kids because that much animosity is not good for children. It's sad when situations like this happen.
@kellymetheney93949 ай бұрын

The grandmother said that was what she asked for so why not? $400/month is a lot more manageable than $700/month. If the grandma said that $400/month was enough to raise the kids that means she's done a budget somewhere to determine that. I'd also like to know where the dad is in all this? If I were the mom I'd say okay I'll pay the $700/month. But now I'm going to sue the dad for child support. He may have taken her to the cleaners in the divorce but child support is an entirely different matter. The pandemic killed a lot of people's budgets. I think it's sad that a mother is so greedy that she would do this to her own daughter.
@Debora-m1c8 ай бұрын
My brother did the same. My mom asked for $400 and he moved in with his wife and 3 kids. Never paid her a dime. Lights and water were off for 2 whole weeks.
@angelagray48716 ай бұрын
@@jessicaarmstrong5035 she put off paying anything for 3 years until her mother had to take her to court to pay towards the care of her own kids! She's lucky she doesn't have to pay for all 3 years they've been there. Grandma is still out a ton of her own money, like almost $25k since she was supposed to pay $400 a month plus $275 a month for the insurance. How can you possibly call her greedy?

I'm just now seeing this and I am appalled. I lived with my grandmother after my divorce with my two kids. I paid my grandmother, willingly I might add, what she asked for in rent which was $400.00 a month. Even back in the year 1996, can't live anywhere for that amount. I was also responsible for me and my children's needs such as food, toiletries, clothing all that good stuff. I was also asked to clean up after ourselves which I did but also cleaned the entire house, her house, mostly on my own. I even had a curfew, age 28, while living in her house. I NEVER, NOT ONCE begrudged giving her that money. I never not once begrudged her rules, she gave me a place to live when I had no place to go. I lived there for eight years until she said it was time for me to go, and I went. I ended going back to live with her in 2009 because she could no longer live alone and I took care of her until she passed in 2012 and she taught me some very valuable lessons about money and responsibility over the time I lived with her. I miss her still here in 2022. People don't realize what they have until they/its are gone. I hope these two figure it out before its too late. God bless.

It really sounds like she didnt want to due to her husband. But wifely duties and all that jazz. And growing up in a religious house hold, you do feel obligated. Now she's divorced, she's rebelling from the life she was brainwashed into. The problem is she's including the children in the rebellion. Also, why is the dad not paying child support? Both parents should be doing that.

In Maryland they can take up to 60% of your pay for child support. So I don't want to hear someone crying about paying a 25 % of their monthly salary.
@jessicaarmstrong50359 ай бұрын
The problem is that I don't think grandma was telling the truth about how much she was making. People who braid hair out of their houses instead of salons make a lot less than a salon because no one's going to go to someone who isn't trained. It's probably closer to $2000/month that the mom is making. And honestly if grandma is receiving child support that makes her responsible for the kids. If I were the mom, I'd stop doing things for grandma going forward. Grandma wants to take care of the kids, let her. I don't like this whole, "You pay child support but you have to pick up after your mom and do all her errands." Grandma wants a transactional relationship, I'd say fine. And every time that she wants her to do something for her I'd say "Okay how much are you going to pay me for that?"
