You can see the pixel cropping in a little to add post stabilization (walking shot). Look at the size difference of the cars in the background on the right side.
@haxorinator8219
@haxorinator8219 5 жыл бұрын
Pixel utilizes an over aggressive software stabilization, that’s why you can see a crop difference. You either get a wider “fuller” frame shot on iPhone with more visible movement Or You get a cropped frame, software IS with less movement. Which is better is up to debate. You can always stabilize in post, but you can never “uncrop”

Just copped the Pixel 3 for $650 on black Friday and saved 4 months worth of phone bills over paying $1000 for a phone with 6 months of KZbin music. And Pixel 3 video doesn't make white people looks orange 😂

Have to watch this a couple of times but basically both are awesome 👌🏽 maybe a bit of both can be a perfection. The face shooting is better on XS, it has certain looks. Stabilization seems more stable on Pixel but I like slight imperfections of iPhone XS, it’s film like. Pixel adds lots of smoothing and perhaps brighter but XS seems to have more dynamic range that you can push further in post. Great videos, Moments team!

The Iphone picks up more details in the highlight of brighter shots. The pixel picks up more detail in darker shots. Dynamic range looks about the same. The Iphone is gas a sharper image & a little more saturation. Working on a short film shot on the Pixel 2 (same camera). Straight out the camera I like the look of the Iphone more. For what I'm doing I'd go with the Pixel because more details in darker shots is more useful to me. I can color grade & sharpen in post to get the look I want.

Pixel 3 more true to life, looks more professional and natural. iPhone XS more saturated, sharper colors, though very nice clean picture. Comes down to preference. And depends on scene by scene. Pixel 3 def handles low light way better. Overall both very good choices. As to audio iPhone sounds better although Google claims pixel's "bad" sound is due to noise reduction, maybe it's a matter of getting used to?

Basing on the camera, I think I'd still choose the Pixel over the XS. Fair reason is I don't record many videos - only on very special occasions like a cute doggo or a friend's birthday party. And we all know that Pixel wins on photos - which I shoot all day everyday. So Pixel it is.

I love how soft and filmy the pixel video comes out. The iPhone really sharpens everything and it doesn't look good for me. Aside from that, I love everything about the iPhone, especially the colors and the dynamic range. Well, it suffers in low light which is an advantage for the pixel but I could sacrifice that for everything that it has to offer. I wish I have either of those phones tho 😥.

When cropping you see clearly how the XS introduces the fake details by oversharpening and crushing the blacks so deep while all of that looks lot more natural on the Pixel 3 and you can see more information in the shadows without adding those fake details.

Pixel 3 Audio is an issue Google has confirmed will be fixed in an update. That said, I feel like the iPhone XS had a more cinematic look to it, kind of like the footage comes color graded out of the box, but loses a lot of detail due to bad exposure. I feel like the Pixel 3 has better detail and exposure, but looks a little washed out and bland color wise. IMO best option is to shoot with a Pixel 3 and color correct in post. Better to color correct the Pixel footage than to try and save details from the iPhone footage.
@fabkav

In my opinion, the iPhone video looks better right out of the camera for daily usage. The pixel looks more "washed out" and keeps more details in the dark areas where the iPhone underexpose (which might be good post image processing).

If I had to pick one to shoot video out of the box with no editing whatsoever I'd go with the XS but a little color grading and I think the Pixel 3 could easily shoot the better video. It's hard to do any kind of color editing with how saturated everything is on the XS. If saturation is what you want you can add it to Pixel 3 in post. Plus that low light on the pixel is amazing. Sticking with the Pixel I think.

A) You should totally do a cinematic Pixel 3 video! B) As far as the camera goes, I'd always go for the Pixel in terms of overall camera. The colors, sharpness, and HDR are superior as far as photos go. However, for video, you can never go wrong with an iPhone. I think that the Pixel is closing the gap on the iPhone in video, but the iPhone is more reliable if we're focusing purely on video/audio. It has more saturated colors (which is a matter of preference) and is a bit sharper-looking to my eye. Also, it has more native FPS options which is definitely a plus on the video side. I'm the proud owner of both the Pixel 2 XL and iPhone 8 Plus. I use both of them (with a Moment wide) for vlogging. I use FilMiC Pro for both of them, and the iPhone tends to give me better cinematic-looking footage, but I can generally rely on both for a good output. Thanks for reading this far if you did!

The iPhone definitely has better dynamic range most likely due to its ability to process real-time with the crazy chip, and I believe the footage is easier to work with. Pixel does well in stills because it can take its time to process the photo after the shot is taken, but probably not happening with video...it exposes shadows well but at the cost of blowing out highlights. For audio I think the iPhone in-built mic is very nice, with the Pixel you might want to grab an external mic. Colors don't matter to me as much because I adjust the colors afterwards anyways, and I often use apps like Filmic Pro, in which case what lens and sensor options I get matter much more. Even for stills I still prefer the iPhone for the "what you see is what you get" approach and the telephoto lens (which I use at least twice as often as the main lens, and digital zoom just won't give the right optics for close up shots), but both are very capable and camera definitely shouldn't be the deciding factor anymore with these new phones.

Is it just me or globally both are... okay? I was expecting better quality videos. 🤔 Pixel 3 looks more neutral and smooth. Sometimes XS wins thanks to its sharpness and contrast but it has disadvantages according to the situation. At the end Pixel 3 looks better for editing than the XS so I vote for P3. Anyway, I think I'm gonna stick with my S8 for now.

I think the question is: what does the footage look like when you get it into Adobe Premiere and start to mess around with it. The iPhone has more contrast and deeper blacks in the native footage, but do you get burned in the editing room afterward? Pixel may give you more options with color correction later on. Pixel handled low light better for sure.

With that said the stabilzation on the pixel is amazing and i think the flatter color profile gives you more to work with which is better in my opinion. But if you want to post something straight to instagram i'd say iphone. If you are into editing your video or color grading the pixel....BOTH ARE AMAZING! Most of your Pixel 3 footage is either way over exposed compared with the iphone, or the exposure is flatter, giving the iphone an APPARENT edge through the somewhat deceptive higher contrast and over-sharpening. The highlights on the pixel are often blown out. It is very important to match the exposure values to suit each phone. I've seen footage on the Pixel 3/3a which is much much better than what you are demonstrating.

I prefer the Pixel in some, iPhone in others. The iPhone has a habit of over saturating and over sharpening but the Pixel's microphone is just utter trash. I have a Pixel 3, and for stills it is incredible, don't do much video but want to start... But for recording I use dedicated mic set ups... Kinda have to lol

Gonna make a wild bet and say we'll get RAW video on smartphones within 4 years. (Pixel 3 added RAW support in the default Google Camera app.)

Audio is very bad on Pixel 3. But video on Pixel 3 is much more realistic than iPhone. IPhone videos are more yellowish or warm which should not be the case.....They videos should display what the actually is visible rather warming them a bit. But I think iPhone videos are much clear than pixel.

Truthfully, quality-wise the iPhone XS video looks better, with better contasts. Darker darks, clear brights.

What I'd like to know is if the Pixel's footage can be improved in post to make it as punchy as the iPhone XS. The footage looks good, but a bit dull. The iPhone footage has that cinematic look to it, which is all in the box and makes life easier for mobile filmmakers when editing in post. As someone pointed out, it's kinda the opposite in terms of photos. The Pixel is great in low light though. I'd have to give this one to the iPhone. Low light might not be great, but you can always light a scene with artificial lighting and fix things in post production. Nothing beats that cinematic warm tone on the iPhone.

Kinda surprised the Pixel 3 did as well as it did. I know it's the stills champ but I was under the impression it's a long way behind in video... But it doesn't appear that way. It was definitely pretty close with the XS.

It looks like a pair of amber sunglasses have been put over the lens of the Xs. A lot of warm colors and vibrancy- a little too much. The pixel’s audio was pretty bad.

Do you know that part of video is the audio recording? Non of you 3 stooges understand that the viewer should listen to the audio recording while video was rolling. Your video shootings were a waste of time because you did not deliver. I watched it and I couldn't figure out which camera had a better video shooting just because you incorporated some stupid music in the video instead letting us see the raw audio. That's why you get thumbs down.

iPhone for video and pixel for stills. Running the native software is a thing. But I’ve played with both the moment app and filmic pro. Both punk the hell out of the iPhone’s native app.

The bit rate is kind of bad on the pixel... and I’m sure it gets even worse when uploading to KZbin. iPhone video is sharper. iPhone color temperature is off, mostly in low light and the shadows are too dark on the iPhone

These phones contradict one another too often. One video the skater will be darker and the background building will be easier to see and in some shots it’s reversed as the other phone did it better. Tripped me out. Either way, as video, either phone is a win, but I think the audio is better on the iPhone. And I’m a Pixel guy. Photos the Pixel is a for sure go, but videos, I lean more towards the iPhone.

The Pixel was consistently overexposed for video, but then that came in handy when shooting in the subway - even if the colours were pretty blown out. XS was definitely the more cinematic of the two.
