The best thing you did getting rid of the servo👏👍 Cannot imagine when I raced at Kyalami F1 circuit, in the ‘70s, my car having servo brakes when braking hard for Crowthorne Corner at the end of that mile long straight. As you so rightly said, servos kill all feel you have as I’ve discovered with my moderns. My ‘67 Morris Minor just shows that up big time, and you certainly know how much leg muscle and pressure you need to apply😮🤗 Having become so used to just feathering modern servo brakes to slow down, the first time I drove the Minor I thought the brakes had failed, then muscle memory from all those years back kicked in and realised I just needed to give the pedal some welly. Brought back such memories😂

Changing the pivot point is going to change the piston throw. I'd work up to full braking slowly to make sure you don't run out of pedal before you fully close the piston.
@Urchfab

The pedal is still right near the top of the stroke so there's no issues of that, there's less overall pedal travel than there was with the servo.

@user-oj4xh8cg2l

if I may, the brake balancer actually works the opposite as you've described : just think of it in terms of total pressure, the pedal sets a total pressure A+B into the system, which applies everywhere until it hits something (e.g. front calipers pistons get A+B without obstruction since not on the balancer circuit), when it hits the balancer the springed faucet needs to be overcome by a pressure A until it opens, so only pressure B goes to the rear caliper. The more you press on the spring, the less pressure you get to the rear (if no pressure from the spring, A=0 the faucet opens as soon as the pedal is depressed and the same braking pressure is apply front and rear).

Hey! Got my Hoodie and T-Shirt today! Feels like good quality stuff and looks freakin great! MONGREL!! I really like how you got that turn table to turn at the perfect speed to do a continuous weld. It really looks great. I haven't been able to do that yet and I'm thinking to put a peddle on the floor to control the speed with my foot. I'm using a throwout bearing with it's sleeve sitting on top of a 1/4" rectangle steel plate, with a flywheel on top and a second throwout bearing without the sleeve on top of that. The plate is clamped to the edge of the bench and holds a bushing housing setup with an old starter drive welded to a shaft driven by an electric drill (cord type). A bolt goes up thru the plate and center of the bearing that has a washer holding center at bottom sleeve. The flywheel has a plate with a centering pipe welded to it facing down into the lower throwout bearing keeping it all centered and then the second throwout bearing with a washer on top that the bolt comes through and gets a nut that tightens it all down.. Crude setup, I just need to get the speeds down pat. The diameters of the project makes a difference as well so I am unable to just find the speed and set it. Thanks for this video.
@Urchfab
@Urchfab 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ed, I appreciate the support. Sounds like some home built awesomeness! To set the speed just mark a flat piece similar thickness to the round part and mark a length say 50mm weld the flat piece and count in your head while you're welding, then mark the round piece with the same measurement and play with the speed until it matches your count. Hope that helps. Cheers mate.

make sure theres at least some play between the push rod and the master cylinder , the release hole in the master cylinder for the diskbrakes is at the end of the travel and if you set it up too tight the diskbrakes might not release think those booster delete adapters might sell well , think you dont have to measure out a lot of mountingplates as the mounting is usually universal per brand , could sell them as an universal type (dril youre own mounting holes and cut to fit )

Hi Matt you say the fluid presure forces the piston up to allow fluid through, doesn't that stop the presure returning, IE locking on the rear brakes.
@SalvageMasterEssex
@SalvageMasterEssex 3 жыл бұрын
No, it's just a small hydraulic cylinder acting against an adjustable spring, so fluid can just return to master cylinder when pedal is released. That's how it sounded to me anyway.
@markosland9746
@markosland9746 3 жыл бұрын
I think in effect you've created an adjustable accumulator, so some of the pressure is used to compress the spring rather than apply the brakes. When you release the brakes it all flows back to the reservoir..........I think!!!
@Urchfab
@Urchfab 3 жыл бұрын
The fluid can travel through the valve at all times so it doesn't open or close, some of the pressure is absorbed by the spring loaded piston taking it away from the rears.
