I could not believe this was a 10in sub when I heard it. I didn't think it was even physically possible for a 10in sub to go so low and deep. If I didnt know any better, I'd think it was a 12in sub. I think that's where this shines. This will be more than enough for most small and medium sized rooms, while having a tighter response than a 12in.

One thing to consider when comparing the HSU VTF-2 MK5 to the Monolith THX Select 10 is the Monolith comes with a full 5 year warranty. The HSU warranty on the amp is only 2 years, but for an additional $60 you can extend the amp warranty. So apples to apples the Monolith is $500/shipped and the HSU is $667/shipped. The Monolith also goes on sale occasionally for a pretty nice discount. A few weeks back Monoprice had it on sale for $375, so I added a second one. At $375 was an amazing deal.

Good review. The Monolith THX Select 10 is a very impressive 10" sub. It's a bit unfair to compare it to the larger HSU VTF-2 mk5 that has a larger driver and cabinet. While the Monolith 10 certainly isn't a small sub, it's still noticeably smaller than the VTF-2. Monolith 10 is 5585 in³ and the VTF-2.5 is 6765 in³. Prices are $499.99/shipped for the Monolith 10 and $607/shipped for the VTF-2.5. HSU does run the VTF-2.5 on sale a few times a year for a modest $30 off. You can get the Monolith 10 for $400-$425 buying from Monoprice via ebay, which lately has been running discount codes once or twice a month. I picked up the Monolith for $425 a few weeks back. I think if somebody has a room that is a bit larger they would benefit from the added headroom the VTF-2 offers above 40Hz.

I'll be crossing over at around 80Hz using an external crossover with 48dB/oct filters. Was your comment about mid-bass referring to frequencies above or below that point? Also, did your perception of the mid-bass change with port plug in / port plug out? Any help would be much appreciated. All the best, Shem

@@edwardsanchez3708 so I did buy two monoliths m10 v2. Just using one actually did give me that depth to the bass which was greater than 1 sb3000. When I had both m10s the bass of course was more even and had a bit more punch. I ended up also testing out dual pb1000 pros and imo the pb1000 pro beat out the monolith slightly. The pb1000 pro seemed to be quicker with the bass, much lighter to move around and slightly smaller. The weight of the pb1000 was about 45lbs whereas the the monolith was about 75lbs! For the weight alone Id go with the pb1000 pros. If you listen to music at all then definitely go with the sb3000s. Its an excellent compromise in terms of size, output and depth. It wont have has much output as the pb1000s but it comes close. Id say the pb1000s (dual) are 10 for bass output and the sb3000s (dual) would be a solid 8.5-9. Hope that helps.

I'm at 70% movies and 30% music and wondering which one to go with. I do like how the monolith looks comparatively and given its a little smaller it might not be as imposing in our living room. However, our living room is around 13' * 16' and we have an attached open kitchen which adds to the space which is another 7' * 13 ' so when facing the TV its a very wide space, so wondering if it needs a bigger sub... Yes!! I was thinking the same thing. One reason the Rsl Speedwoofer 10s is so small is because their port is rectangular vs the monolith 10 is circular and in the center of the box.
@JaysStraightUpReviews6 жыл бұрын
The Monolith THX 10 and the RSL Speedwoofer may have the same diameter driver, but that's about where the similarities end. These subs aren't aimed at the same market. The Speedwoofer 10s is in a small cabinet and was measured by S&V to have a -3dB point of 30Hz, which by subwoofer standards is kind of mediocre extension capability. Not that the 10S is a bad sub, it's just designed to be a smaller option and focuses more on the 40-80Hz range. The Monolith THX 10 is designed to dig to 20Hz or better and has an incredibly linear and accurate response at very low distortion levels (in THX mode or extended). To get down to 20Hz or better with useable output you need a larger cabinet, more power and a capable driver. The Monolith driver is beastly and capable of high levels of excursion for a 10" driver.

I haven’t heard the 603s but from the specs I think they would cover mid bass pretty well provided your amp is powerful enough to dive them. I'm not quite ready to buy until Monday or Tuesday, and they said their "main batch" wasn't coming until January. A good set of towers can handle all you midbass I don’t like my subs producing any midbass let it only handle the lower end.

What does the EQ extended and thx do? What is the benefits of it switched up on the lever or down thanks
@HomeTheaterHobbyist6 жыл бұрын
Extended EQ causes the sub to play a little louder and slightly more distorted. I tried it out and decided I like more output but not the distortion. So in the end I switched the EQ to THX and turned the level up a bit.

BIC America makes nice entry level stuff, but RSL, the Monolith, SVS, HSU Research are all significant upgrades to anything BIC makes. The BIC is only 250 watts RMS as opposed to this sub which is 500 watts RMS. BIC Subs also tend to be more muddy sounding and don't hit as low as any of the higher end brands mentioned.
@teknikalvette5 жыл бұрын
It's a subwoofer not a mid bass, your speakers are supposed to pick that up.

How does this compare to the svs pb-2000?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist6 жыл бұрын
The Pb2000 will move more air due it's larger size but the Monolith 10 digs deep which is very nice! The Pb2000 is at a different price point so it's a little difficult to truly compare. At $500 the monolith 10 is great bang for the buck
@jasonsullivan80016 жыл бұрын
Home Theater Hobbyist thanks for reply. I wonder how the pb 2000 would do against the Monolith 12” they are similar in size and watts and price. Keep up the good work.

Home Theater Hobbyist compare does not mean value on size, what we want to know is how they sound compare to each other how much better does one one sounds and in what way?

So this or the svs PB-1000?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist5 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you like in a sub but I’d pick the Svs. I discussed that choice in this video: SVS PB-1000 Full Review kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4G9q5eliculnZo

Its a “Subwoofer” not a midbass unit so your comment makes no sense at all....
@astrotrance5 жыл бұрын
It playes up to 200Hz, which is usually considered midbass-ish. I agree though, most subs sounds too bloated and boomy above about 100Hz or so, and sound a lot better at low freqs.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist5 жыл бұрын
Different subwoofers handle frequencies below ~250Hz differently. The monolith handles the low frequencies below ~50Hz with aplomb while some don’t do that well. Just because it says “subwoofer” that doesn’t mean it will play the entire frequency range the same.
@rakitakhan5 жыл бұрын
Ummmm...it's a SUBwoofer. It's not meant to reproduce mid bass. That is left for your mains to handle. I dig the review though.

I did some checks around the internet and couldn't find a definitive answer but my best guess is designed in California manufactured outside of the US. That is just a guess though.

You lost all credibility, midbass? It’s a sub the word already betrays what it needs to do SUB LOW.. Midrange is something your fronts and center do
@HomeTheaterHobbyist4 жыл бұрын
I think you’re confusing 2 terms. Mid range frequency covers ~150-900hz. Your typical loudspeaker can handle these frequencies. Below 150Hz is the bass regime handled by the sub. Mid bass frequency range is ~50-90hz. While the frequencies below 50Hz are called low bass.
