Thank you so much! Finally someone that can explain the belt on and off mystery! I thought I was doing it wrong because when I use the floor attachment the belt smells like it is burning. The machine vacuums and the bar turns and the belt is in the middle of the bar but the belt still smells like rubber burning. Of course this happens on the brink of a holiday. By the way I always called that rod a birds perch so crows feet fit right in for me.

This has been the most confusing part of learning how to use my Kirby! I hope Kirby is listening to you because you know what you’re talking about! They definitely need to change the sticker to say hook the belt, install the front piece and then unhook the belt to make it engage with the roller. The sticker is so confusing!!!!The way it is marked makes zero sense to the average vacuum user. Thank you. I actually know how to use my machine now because of your video! 🙏

My husband passed Away last January. He explained how to put the head on many times and my daughter and I. Never caught on. He was a great English teacher but could not teach us. Because of your video, we’ve overcome one more challenge of my spouse no longer with us. So thank you! I own 2 Kirby 5 models. Our stairs to bedroom have. Shallow steps, are narrow and - a bit steep. So cleaning the only bedroom up there was hard with one vacuum.

This is a wonderful explanation of how the belt lifter works I've ever seen-hearing that "on" means on the driveshaft, not the lifter itself was a revelation. I have three old Kirbys and two old Electroluxes always plugged in and ready to go, and do the best I can with maintenance. Thank You!

Oh my God! WOW!! I almost put my Kirby up for sale. I have a 2005 g ultimate, that I took apart in 2008 to shampoo my carpet and have not been able to put it back together because of this specific issue, lost my home and my Kirby was one of the things I held on to, since 2008 I have not been able to put this vacum back together and I did it today WOW!!!! I've had a Kirby for about 5 years, and I've never understood the belt on/belt off. I know I've vacuumed with the belt not correctly on because the green light doesn't turn on. This is the first time in years that I've looked it up again as i didn't understand when watching other videos before. I understood it completely with your video. I am a female who throughout ny entire life, I have been able to fix any vacuum whether it be my own my mothers my aunts my friend my next-door neighbors always have been able to fix it. I am talking Hoove,r Bissell, Miele, filter queen, oreck, shark, eureka, dirt devil these are the brands just off the top of my head that I have worked on and completed fixing. My husband brought home a filter queen and when I first turned it on I could smell the belt rubber burning so I ordered new belts and I got so frustrated with the sticker that says belt on belt off. So frustrated that it has taken me over a month to figure this out and I figured it out thanks to your video. So in essence I didn’t figure it out you figured it out for me. Thank you so much for your knowledge and your endearing personality and your tremendous help. Do you know what they say about a great vacuum, it sucks!! I am now going to vacuum my whole entire home with my now working Kirby I cannot thank you enough if I lived closer to you I would bring you out for a beer thank you so much for your knowledge and for the wonderful video you shared.

The BIGGEST THANK YOU for explaining this belt on/belt off!!!! I grew up with a Kirby and when I got mine years later I already knew the machine as a whole…. The only think I couldn’t figure out was the belt on or off because my mom always changed out belts. (She has had her vacuum for around 50 years and it’s the style that didn’t take a bag but has a swivel cover to empty the main bag!) anyhow when I recently changed my belts I got so confused with that on/off setting because my beater bar wouldn’t engage after reassembling. I took everything off again and was baffled why the belt wouldn’t engaged. I guess that setting was making me think on or off was backward somehow and then I started searching for an explanation. Found yours and now my brain without coffee can understand that it’s “on or off on the machine NOT a the removable head” (Facepalm Moment! ) thank you so much for explaining it me to so I can “get it”!!

Thank you for this video. Every time I use the attachment hose I have to re-learn how the dumb sticker works. I rewrote on the sticker "Belt on THE SHAFT" with permanent marker on the sticker. Also, I totally call the bar (on the machine where the head is attached) the Bird Perch.

Thanks for this video. I am having a heluva time with this belt and head. I keep smelling the belt burning and I don’t think I am getting this right. I find it very frustrating to try to get the head back on also. You do it so quickly and simply. It is very aggravating and takes me like 20 times and tilting that vacuumed practically upside down ugh ggrrrrr. lol. BTW I just got my Kirby a month ago. I used it but the roller would never spin so I knew I was doing a horrid job but was helpless to figure it out.
