Coming from someone who saw all three movies and watched the animated Series it really fell off after a couple of years and the third Descendants movie was not well received by fans imao. However descendants Trilogy is a masterpiece when in comparison to just how lifeless the Monster High live action movies are. These movies are the most cheapest Nickelodeon original movies ever released and really only proves that Nickelodeon should have stopped making original movies after the 2010's.

Yeah, the movies just don't get Monster High. They take themselves too seriously and are way too melodramatic. Monster High was more of a spoof of YA genre + monster media, and was VERY CAMPY...but embraced it. They knew the concept of yassified monster girls going to highsool is silly, and it embraced silliness. The most serious storytelling came from them being teenagers and dealing with teenagers would, and some light, but not overly weepy social commenatry. Which is ironic, because The Nickleodon cartoon get it and is generally pretty good.

I think what make this movie arguably worse that the first movie is that it lacks a narrative focus. In the first movie, Clawdeen was set up to be the main focus the story and that narrative remained consistent through the whole movie (Draculura and Frankie didn't really contributed much, but was functional in the roles they were given). In the sequel, Draculura is set up to be the main focus, but then to have Clawdeen hijack her storyline for 70% of the time. Frankie on the other hand, gets the shaft for most of the movie and gets about 2 scenes of development about how their powers are controlled through the power of friendship (I am not joking that actually statement said through dialougue at scene shown at 18:23) Edit: I have a positive with the sequel, visuals in general are far better Edit 2: I just realized that Deuce also gets the shaft for most of the movie (again) and only gets development at both the beginning and end of the movie

@anthonyackerman7914 A vast majority of the original Monster High cast of characters from Gen-1 and Gen-2 get the shaft in Gen-3 and a lot of the focus seems to be put on Clawdeen 90% in both movies. Frankie and Draculara get their stories in Monster High 2 highjacked by Clawdeen and toralei. The romance between Clawdeen and Deuce feels forced and not well developed. Coming from someone who is more used to the Deuce and Cleo relationship from Gen1.

Universal giving up the rights to Monster High was a mistake especially since Nickelodeon and Paramount had to change a lot of things about the characters. The characters in the previous generations were meant to be the daughters/ descendants of the classic Universal Monsters.

I can't get over Frankie just announcing their pronouns every single time. They couldn't find a more natural or fun way to add that? It's always awkward and halts the flow of the scene completely. Heck, I'd accept Frankie having a they/them pin on their shirt just to skip that awkwardness. Or a joke where Frankie says they are a they/them because they are literally multiple people when someone looks at them weirdly. At this point I would even be happy if they skipped it entirely and just assume it was established to the new characters off screen.

I grew up with the OG and the De-Cuntification of Clawdeen still stings. It’s definitely *not* for me as it’s more modern and pretty poorly written. The designs are okay, not that creative as they were. As its own product it’s just mediocre. Would like to see you guys review the original stuff ngl

Please, stop reffering to children's cartoon characters as "cuntification". Jesus. Otherwise, yeah, these movies are pretty bad even by new gen standards. Though I prefer original designs, unleast dolls and new cartoon are pretty good (compare to this LMAO).
