So I’m a primatologist, the face flaps, flanges, are only found on mature male orangutans and are critical for amplifying their calls to others through the forest as they act as a sound dish. It’s also ironic that you talked about when males get their flanges because males can delay the development of their secondary sexual characteristics like flanges seemingly indefinetly. Only territorial males have these flanges and it seems that only when a territory opens up do some fo the males finsih developing.

@@TheTGOAC What are you talking about? Many primates have defined territories, but it's not so much an innate primate behavior as a behavior that evolves if you're a food specialist like a fruit eater like chimps and orangutans. I actually used to like to creep around at night and stuff until someone also told me about their fear of the dark and now sometimes when I peer into the complete blackness of the night (we live in a rural area with not a lot of light pollution) I see shapes and movement and hear creepy sounds plus a very irrational uneasiness that someone/something is sneaking up behind me and it's like a feedback loop. @@skeetsmcgrew3282 ugh I have a walk that I often did in the countryside to my house. There's corn on the side and other fields for agriculture. I always found them kinda fun bc of idk, corn labyrinths / mazes? But then In the tall grass came out on Netflix (the one from Stephen King) and I googled the summary and it's obviously not even about corn. But I got into discussions about the movie and this influenced me so much that I had a very creepy feeling for like a year walking next to this. I still sometimes think about it when I have time to go on a walk on that road and I immediately have a uneasy feeling. Walking on this abandoned road in the summer heat next to plants that are much bigger than you is kinda eerie. (Also he also has written Children of the corn, maybe he was just really scared of the power of food^^) So we can easily create our own fears. Not to mention my brain has always been running wild so sometimes when I was a child I would play near a forest and then suddenly this feeling of "something will pop out and pull me in" came up for no reason and I got so paranoid that I had to leave immediately. I don't believe in any monsters but my own thoughts really spook me😂now that I think of it this was also my fear for the corn field (not so much being pulled in like in the movie), so maybe I just have to live with that now...wonder what a therapist would say about this haha

She acts like a person. Sometimes pleasant and supporting to the MC, sometimes a villain. Sometimes a treacherous old hag, sometimes a wise babushka with advise. I wouldn't call her a monster, she's often used to represent the saying that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, that even though her appearance is scary and everyone around tells she's bad and dangerous, you just need to treat her like any other human being, and she'll give back. Basically she's like Shrek. A misunderstood person.

@@desertedgoat17 Such a stupid and ignorant thing that every kid goes on about, "for the good of the universe and the planet" for starters the planet doesn't give a fuck and will continue to go on long after we do or don't go extinct, secondly if the planet doesn't give a fuck about us then you can be sure the universe doesn't even notice your spec of an existence, Its so ironic that you talk about humans "inventing" things to cope with the truth while you have adopted some retarded idea that humans are somehow unnatural and it would be a good thing to sacrifice ourselves when really you're just pretentious. All species go extinct, all planets will die, the universe has no meaning at all. And just to show how pretentious you are, I can tell you the real reason monster stories were invented was to scare children out of doing dangerous things, instead of telling children that the forest is full of dangerous animals and plants that could kill them to which a child wouldn't understand or care, you just tell the child a monster is in the forest, and then they wouldn't go in. The only reason monster stories are still around today, is because some of them actually make for really interesting tales that use morality as a backbone to the story. "We cultivate monsters idea in animals" then why are there so many successful humanoid monsters or just straight serial killers that make it into horror stories? Why is slenderman, freddy, jason, demons, zombies, hundreds of examples of humanoid monsters?

Also it's the better way to sell things. It's generally much more effective to market to someone based on emotions rather than logic. I actually did sign up for a VPN service recently and I used this guys link because he makes me laugh. Time before this I used Internet Comment Ettiquettes link because he makes me laugh too. The hard sell just doesn't work that well. It's also really strange when the advert is tonally at odds with the video it's in. IH understands his audience and sells to them in a way they'll be receptive too. I'd bet he's making decent money off his adverts in comparison to many other content creators.

Slenderman was a perfectly fine monster before the mainstream got a hold of him. The air of ambiguity around him and his intentions and how the fuck he got everywhere was genuinely terrifying for a while, but that all went away the more people wanted to fill in the blanks with their own creepypasta interpretations of him.

That happens to every monster that people like sadly. Siren head was terrifying in 2018 but now he best know from feckin Roblox games. I think SCP is a fantastic platform and i love alot of the anomalous objects on the platform; but the popular ones ( 096, 173, 682 ) are just so overused and stale. at this point im not surprised that alot of people think that SCP sucks without looking for the good less popular articles

The chupa cabra (literally "goat sucker" in Spanish) is a pretty good one. Where I'm from the tales I heard as a child scared the hell outta me because I lived almost in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a lot of woods, and also because even some of the most outrageous stories had *some* truth to them rather than being entirely made up. The one that stuck with me the most was that one of our neighbors (a ranch owner) found his dog, pigs, chickens, turkeys and ducks all dead, and they all had at least one or two holes (in terms of size they were at least as wide as a pinky and very deep) from which they were all apparently drained of their blood since there was barely enough blood to account for all the dead animals. The neighbors said it was the chupa cabra, and it caused a bit of a scare for some time with some neighbors keeping watch at night to protect their pets, cattle, or poultry. While I don't think such a creature exists, despite the help from the police and even a forensic specialist that the owner of the ranch hired, they were never really able to tell what the hell happened to those animals or who or what could have done it. I remember personally having a chat with the ranch owner and he told me that it was easily the scariest most bizarre thing that had ever happened to him and he said if there really is anything out there that he hopes it's been dead for long enough that he will never have to find out.

A lot of ufo chasers encounter similar stories involving various livestock. I remember a special news report of an alleged chupacabra caught on video in south Texas and my dad getting frustrated and claiming the creature shown in the video was just a deer fawn with mange. That was the first time I'd heard of the creature and always thought it interesting.

Honestly do you know what fascinates me? There probably is a predator just like that out there but it doesn't look as gross. So people already know there's this thing out there that just wants food, but that's not terrifying enough for them. No, they have to make up a whole legend about some weird fable animal. If you think of it this thing behaves just like a wolf or a fox, hearing stories about them ripping sheep and chicken apart should be enough to freeze your blood too. But it doesn't, people just act like they have no right to live bc of their needs (oh no, a wild animal acts like a wild animal...). I bet, if someone found out what kind of animal killed the farm stock, and even if it was the chupacabra, people would quickly stop being scared and start hunting those things down. It's the mystery that builds this legend. It doesn't even seem to harm humans, so the only thing I would be afraid of is that it could catch rabies or whatever makes them do unreasonable things like going to close to the civilisation and attacking humans. (I would be scared if I was eye to eye with any wild creature, I just wanna clarify😂)
