We camped in our 21 foot A-frame Travel Trailer on a weekend in August 2020 in an electric site on Loop 4. We were lucky enough to be able to reserve a site less that a week prior to our arrival date. That is unusual during this busy time of year. Montauk State Park is known for trout fishing. Our campground hosts were friendly and engaging at check in and made sure we had everything we needed for our weekend. This park has a recycling program and has a bag for you to use to make that easier. That was a nice touch!
From the park's website: Montauk State Park preserves a shady green retreat that offers visitors plenty of opportunities for fun, whether it is fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking or just relaxing with friends and family.
The park is located at the headwaters of the famed Current River. The park’s springs combine with tiny Pigeon Creek to supply more than 40 million gallons of water to the river each day. The cool spring water is perfect for rainbow trout and this makes the park popular with anglers.
