Being originally from Montreal, and can say that he is spot on with everything he said in this video. By far the best Montreal video that I have come across. Wow! He really spent the time to understand the culture and explained it in a simple way. All facts presented are true.

As good a presenter he is, this was disappointing and had little depth. He went to two food places and they were standard. Schwartz’s? Really? Just a little lazy. You want proper smoked meat? Montrealers go to the Snowden Deli. That’s but one example.

North America's french alternate reality was exactly how I described it after my first visit in 2018 (and after my third European trip of the year, twice including OG France). I love Montreal for being a nearby escape and yet somehow still a familiar setting that's distinctly unique. It's a slice of Europe but not in some type of contrived, forced construct or way. I cannot wait to go back, and I am so glad my go to and favorite travel channel has served up another gem of a video/overview

@@9grand I’d say Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City are all very unique in its own way. Toronto’s cosmopolitanism is unmatched by any city in the world except maybe NYC, Montreal’s blend of Franco/Anglo culture is unique in North America and Quebec City feels like a town in Northern France rather than one in NA. Every other Canadian city is rather bland imo

My pops was born in Montreal in 1919. A decendent of a French soldier in Louis the XIV's Carignan Regiment sent to protect French Settlers. Also decended from a Scot Highlander, expelled with his family and many others by the British crown. Large groups of Scots fled to Montreal.

I always get the 747. Much more affordable. It's been a couple of years but I remember the exact change point. Love the Metro! My food favourites - obviously poutine, Schwartz Deli, and Eggs Benedict (La Vieux on St Laurent), I also loved Jean Talon market with its variety of international cuisine. I have a lot of time for Montreal! Amazing video as always, the quality is next level which these days is so rare. Dumbass shorts videos with shaky cam like its 2017 seem to be the norm nowadays unfortunately. Bring quality back!

@@attachetravel I live a block from Marché Jean-Talon and it's very seasonal. We all rejoice when the various local crops go through their phases then sigh when it battens down for winter. (October signals the end) though the bread, cheese and meat are great throughout the year!

I visited Montreal last weekend. If you live in NA, visiting this city is a must. It is cold as hell but restaurants are out of the world, Mount Royal is fabulous and Old Montreal is magical. There was a NHL game of Canadiens at my first day, so bought a last minute ticket and Habs atmosphere is amazing. Lots of parks you can stroll. Also public transport is amazing.

Everyone speaks English in the city apart from the very old. Cab drivers too. I had some African Uber driver who spoke French and whatever African dialect his profile said no English but that was BS. He spoke pretty good english. I was happy since I got to practice my French which is nearly impossible in the city limits. If you go to Granby (excellent for their water park/zoo, you read that right. It’s awesome) they speak almost no English outside the park. Brossard and Montreal all have lots of English speakers

At 13:24 is the Savoyarde, my go to at La Banquise. But in my opinion, there are many better places for Poutine, with shorter lines and fewer tourists!

@@attachetravel My favourite places for poutine would be Chez Claudette in the Plateau, for the sheer variety, and Restaurant AA in St-Henri, specifically for their Italian poutine, which is made with a kind of bolognese. Other noteworthy places are La Pataterie in Hochelaga and Paul Patates in Point St Charles. Otherwise, Ma Poule Mouillée across the street from La Banquise make an amazing piri-piri and linguiça poutine. Other than that, I always like to get my poutine with a steamie, a Montreal hot dog dressed with mustard, relish, onions and sauerkraut.

thanks for making my town this wonderful video! yes, we do speak french, but in Montreal, i'd say 80% of the population understand and can speak english. so no worries, just come and enjoy! Also, the winter are cold, yes, BUT we have one of the the biggest underground city in the WORLD for u to explore, some hotels, like the Westin Montreal, have it's own ''secret passage'' to go throught, so u don't even need to bring your winter coat and just exploring the city ;-)

Montreal is not the quaint old Montréal or the generic downtown. Nope , Montréal is about it's borough like le plateau, Rosemont , la petite patrie , etc . Its outside spiral staircase, it's parks , its life on it's balcony etc

There is a new automated skytrain( REM ,moderrn public transport ) under construction from the airport to downtown and around the city of $ 9 billion ...Montreal is built on an Island , 7 times bigger than Manhattan with the largest urban park in Canada , Mount Royal park .

Thankfully, in four, maybe 5 years, we should have the Trudeau airport connected to the new regional metro. It's been a long time coming, really. I am almost anxiously waiting for the relatively fast (20 minutes to downtown) and frequent trains of the REM.

Yes...our Airport is...well...not as fonctionnal as you said and we do need a better way to commune from there to down town, like every big city. ( They are working on it, REM is coming ( we hope) in 2017 to connect the airport and the Central station...about time really). Have you notice the french Lyric of our National Anthem ingraved on the wall at the Central Station ? ( 4:22 ) :) There is a lot of hidden gems like this all over the town :) Glad you enjoyed your stay.... and Yes...we will conquer the world, one Poutine at a time ;) haha

Great review with lots of practical comments. Poland? I think bagels and smoked meat recipes came to Montreal from the Ukraine. If you don't want to tip, it's not impossible but it's considered an insult (i.e. if you truly got bad service and want to send a message). The traditional French practice is to leave four pennies but alas, there are no more pennies in Canada, so bring pennies from another country. (No tipping allowed at Wilensky's).

that poutine looks sad , the cheese isn't melted enough and needs more thick hot gravy and covered so the heat melts the cheese over the fries , and you mix it later when you open it , delicious

You picked the wrong city in Quebec. Quebec City is the place to go. ;) In all seriousness, if anyone come to Montreal, take the train and go to Quebec City for 2 days, it's 10x as beautiful as Montreal, and is worth the trip, especially in September or February with the Carnaval.
