@Tony Ashford that isnt a toy, it's called a jockey saddle. jockeys are people who race horses, if you didnt know. that type of saddle is specifically made small so the horse doesnt carry as much weight, and goes faster. you just learnt something new! :) (sorry for my bad grammar, i'm not english )

Just in case anyone is interested. l am Corona's owner and attended Monty Roberts clinic at Gleneagles and confirm that she had never had a saddle, bridle or rider before this video. regardless if you are lunging or sending away, both give the same message to the horse which is adding pressure to move forward & move those feet. The mare did not "give up", if she had done that, she would not be seeking him out as a leader & following his every move. She realized that he wasn't going to hurt her & showed him that she wanted to play nice with him. Horses prefer when things are easy, having a pecking order & leadership.

Have broken in horses myself that we breed on our own property years ago, many people were impressed and wanted me to work on their horses as a kid I really didn't see this as a real job, wish I had. 15 years after leaving the farm I still had people asking me to help them, just recently with Covid I have been watching horse educating videos, so far everything I have seen is so similar to how I was taught by some really talented horsemen. So far every trainer I have watched gets the same results from slightly different methods which are basically the same, from what I have seen while impressed with all Monty's way is the closest to how I was taught, but all are great to watch and learn from. I like Monty's presence with the horse very gentle.

I remember watching Monty Roberts years ago when I was around 12-14yrs old. I am 23 now and I’ve started back studying on training horses and I’ve been looking for his videos for three days straight. I for some reason could not remember his name so I typed stuff in KZbin like, breaking a horse without harming it and etc. today I’ve finally found him and I’m glad. I’m fixing to go back and re-watch all the videos, put them in a playlist and also try to never forget his name. Thank you for broadcasting your works! Wellll.. Without the saddle yes. Being able to learn the language of the animal is paramount to working with them rather than they simply obeying our commands. I was loose leash training with my dogs and they are well mannered and always walk off leash. They listen and work with me because they can trust the commincation that we have together. So much adverse behaviour is predicated on a miscomprehesion of intent and action on our part.

I'm not that surprised. Humans and dogs are pack oriented. And oddly enough, even if we ourselves are human, language changes the game. Children are only just learning and babies can't communicate clearly. I'd think with any animal or person, showing them that something new isn't scary or painful is key in gaining trust. I work with cats at a shelter. A lot of them are just terrified little cinnamon buns, some are very much "I will kill you and I'm terrified" with both, the important thing is to create an experience involving you, with typical sounds, smells and sights they can expect in their lives, making sure all experiences are neutral to positive in best case. Positive conditioning is the best way to do anything. Heck, even if you're trying to teach yourself a new behavior. Giving rewards for completing and trying things you want to do is far better than punishment. Punishment breeds fear and distrust.

My Dad was a firm believer in Monty Roberts and after he received his first horse, a foal of out my BLM mustang Rena (foal was a surprise that only Rena and I knew about but no one believed us (:...), Dad bought every book and video he could find and after starting a number of others horses using MR methods Dad considered himself a "horse whisperer" and everyone would call him when they had a young horse, a green horse, an untrainable horse, a problem horse. Up until a few weeks before Dad passed away he was still singing the praises of MR. Dads horse Cheyenne? Well he gave her to the people who Dad gave all of her babies too. Cheyennes momma Rena, my mare? She's enjoying just being horse although she did experience a major loss three days ago. Her best friend, my mare Daelite, was laid down after having owned me for two weeks shy of 23 years. Rena is 21 now, and she's owned me 19 years. UPDATE: My Rena I had to lay down in 2017 due to severe allergies. Seven grasses in NY she was allergic to five along with barn dust and cockroaches😵🤧😟😳🥺😭 (aren't we all?). I tried everything for her even down to allergy shots. The decision to lay her down only became absolutely necessary when in the Spring of 2017, with snow still in the ground, and temperatures were close to 70 and she started heaving so bad it hurt me to watch her. Rena was my joy but if I were to ever adopt a mustang again I would make sure the horse came from a state that was similar to NYS for grasses because she was born in a desert state, Elko Valley Nevada, she never had a chance at being a normal horse as much as I tried and wanted her to be a happy, healthy, "normal" horse. I always learn from my owners, my Daelite taught me how to bring a horse back from the brink of starvation and Rena taught me how to observe for any breathing issues, founder and unusual feeding requirements especially when it comes to feeding a horse with allergies.

Sorry for your loss. Those who don't know horses don't get that the great bonds that can be formed through love and understanding are so tight that to lose one partner - horse or human - can be devastating to both sides. Those horses lucky enough to have been "owners" of gentle, understanding humans can grieve too. And they can grieve when they lose their long-term best horse buddies. I hope that the parting wasn't too hard on either of you. Bless you for your obvious love for our dearest animal partners. The one thing I choose above all when it comes to horses or dogs - and the occasional cat - is the unconditional love they give us (cat's have servants, not owners ;-) I love cats too btw!). They can teach many a human how to love. I hope your other friend is still with you, given the time that's passed since your post.

I like Monty's method the best. He isn't flashy and showy about his skills and abilities, he gets right to the point without wasting time and breath. He is gentle and accomplishes in a matter of minutes what takes others to do in several days. Other trainers methods have the concepts to varying degrees but in pieces and though they do succeed over time, Monty just tackles whatever problem head on and resolves straight away. I like Monty's no nonsense, no frills approach. After watching 0ther trainers work, I still like Monty's method the best. Monty is a true horse whisperer and I appreciate watching him work.

Beautiful. I notice that the horse is very well groomed; I think a lot was done to establish trust before this moment. Love the "colt starting" saddle - a light english saddle with a grab bar. Seems like a western saddle "night latch" (loop of braided rawhide) would be safer than a metal bar for both the horse and rider in case the horse rears and goes over backwards.

This was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I'm a small person, seeing that Mare accept all of that in one session was astonishing and makes me feel better about some day owning my own horse. I absolutely love him. The way I have seen other people train horses are disgusting, like Clinton Anderson. Most people order, tell and force the horse to obey and tie them down. This man goes bitless, let’s the horse take its time and so much more. He has so much patience with that horse. It’s outstanding. I’m ligit speechless! Keep up the good work mate Edit: I just saw that he didn’t even use a lunging whip to make the horse as comfortable as possible, he also didn’t use a big saddle pad, putting lots of weight on the horse. He also didn’t put any leg wraps on, he lets the horse feel comfortable as. And when it came to mounting, he didn’t rush it. He took his time on it. I’m literally so surprised, and I came across you just in my recommendations. You have such a special talent with horses. And you didn’t do too much riding on the mare the first time mounted. You earn their respect and trust. The difference between an abused way of training and yours is so much. You literally inspire me so much. I can’t stop watching your vids. You have earned my respect!

This made me so happy seeing this video pop up on my feed! My parents offered me the opportunity to go apprentice with Monty after high school in 2002. That was 17 years ago. For whatever reason I didn’t take it up, even though I was obsessed with wanting to be like him & how he trained horses in such a gentle manner! Hadn’t been searching for anything horse related, so to see this was a welcome surprise to see in my feed 🥰🙏🏻
