Wow, I would very much like to bind a book and fill it with the contents of this channel. I bind books as a hobby and use caligraphy, imagery and binding methods to make them look like old, or even sometimes medieval manuscripts

That would be awesome! Please keep me posted if you do!

OH MY GOSH!!! THIS WAS SO HELPFUL!! I'm researching Basilisks for a book I'm writing that has all the information about most of the mythical creatures out there. I will absolutely cite you in my resources when I'm done with the book because you absolutely deserve more subscribers! Thanks for the help!

Another great bestiary video. I only just started watching but this is already my favorite mythology series. The "Reification" segment in particular really helps with world building.

Fun fact: The Pokemon Giratina could be based on a basilisk (its Altered Forme possesses six legs, just like some medieval (as well as modern) depictions of the basilisk).

+Dire Miralis Thank you for your interest, the feedback is appreciated. Often times it takes a while for a new KZbin channel to garner any decent amount of attention, and we have only existed for about six months now. So the performance is presently par with any channel that is not instantly viral upon creation (with regards to views and subscribers etc) That said the content produced on this channel isn't for everyone. Being rather slow paced and relatively long when compared to much of KZbin it is in stark contrast to what the average user is expecting when browsing for videos. As a consequence we have attempted to rectify this by uploading additional videos that may garner further attention in the form of the "reification" videos, but there's only so much one can do with a given format. We are toying with the idea of creating a more dramatised version of these videos, and although a script and some story boards have been drafted for this concept, the scope and ambition of this project is beyond our present financial capacity. Plans are in the works for rendering finances to create at least a pilot for this project but as the current subscriber base demonstrates we cannot expect to invest in any major financing system to make this come to pass, however hope springs eternal. Thank you once more for you feedback; I do hope yourself and other subscribers and viewers seeing this take heart in the knowledge that although content is slow to update we nevertheless have ambitions to keep this channel running and, with any luck, growing.

The ground cracks and the plants die. It sounds like it absorbed the moisture of the ground through it's skin.

Maybe... interesting idea, though I imagine that there would be a hard limit as to how much water it could absorb from the enviroment.

The earliest description I've read about this creature from Ancient Greece. lt was said to be large rooster with snake features; It was described as a creature that attacks the sense. If you saw it, heard it, touched it, or even smelled it... You would die. I think this is an important description, because it means there is no way to live and tell the tale if confronted by the creature. It's also noteworthy since there are so many variations of this creature despite it being a rooster/snake. I believe this to be a creature created from tall tales of adventurers. A creature created through fear and imagination.

This is a very interesting point. How does one describe something that would kill you upon encountering it? It's an odd thing that I have found while researching myths that there comes a point where the myth has grown so much that it has adopted an inordinate amount of illogical aspects and yet people just accept it. Terry Pratchett noticed this as well and he provides some examples of it. Very interesting man he was. Either way thank you for your comment, and a very interesting thought.

no its a hen lays an egg and a toad sits on it
@MoonChickenProductions7 жыл бұрын
Indeed this is true, one of the myths about the Basilisk holds that it is born in such a manner... a silly oversight that we forgot to mention this. Thanks for bringing it up!
@nicholaslienandjaja18156 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, instead of a toad, the egg was sat upon by a snake or a dragon.

I'm trying to make my own version of the Basilisk creature. Could I ask you for some input, please?
@MoonChickenProductions6 жыл бұрын
Okay, sure I would be happy to help. Let me know what you're thinking in terms of purpose that the creature serves in your myth, and any particular constraints you have. Also do let me know if you would like to follow a more technically biased or magically biased perspective.

My version of the Basilisk has the overall morphology and proportions of a monitor lizard or a Komodo Dragon, since it was created from a monitor lizard by the Telchines. It has the following modifications; 1. It grows up to 30 to 50 feet in length. 2. Its has a bony neck frill, similar to that of Triceratops and its kin, for protection and a blunt force weapon. 3. It has the osteoderms of a crocodile running along its back and bottom. There is more than what I'm typing but can't put it here due to the limitations of my Nook. I just want to know if these features are physically possible on the existing anatomy of a monitor lizard, and what I should add to compensate for any detriments you find. Please reply as soon as you get this.

it could be a legless lizard with venumus drull like a camodo dragon. with some slite chainges to the mix of venom and backteia it could afect plants and flesh
@MoonChickenProductions6 жыл бұрын
Indeed certainly. In-fact this was one of the creatures we considered as an inspiration for this Basilisk. However the main problem we found was the middle eastern location of the Basilisk rather prevents Komodo dragons from being considered an inspiration for the Basilisk. We did consider mentioning it but it the time we weren't certain how to bring that across. Nevertheless thanks for your comment, we hope you continue to enjoy our videos.

You know that parasitic that you we're saying 11:00- 11:32 I wonder if the myth was created by a prank like steal a cobra's egg, then put it in a chicken's nest and the hen would be horrified to see one of her eggs hatch into a cobra.
@nicholaslienandjaja18154 жыл бұрын

Rooster lays the Egg and a toad hatches it. With the description of what some dinosaurs look like is currently updated, the Basilisk may have been a surviving dinosaur seen by ancients.

Maybe the reason people thought looking at the Basilisk would kill them is because spitting cobras would poison there eyes!
@MoonChickenProductions6 жыл бұрын
Indeed! that Cobras aim for the slight movements of the eyes and other parts of the body implies that this may well be correct. I'm sure that the spitting cobra influenced the conception of the basilisk. however It seems that most such animals occur below the Sahel zone, so I'm not sure how well the myth may have been influenced by it historically. However there are variants that can be found in Asia, so... ja. Would that the resources existed to fully trace the influences of the creatures. Thanks for your input!

The real basilisk is like twin fame shapeshift power and she is beautiful on my to Lucifer Eve and Adam and herself stone else wel better be polite I have seen the overall size of this form of Lilith and me and her talked about this shapeshift she likes to do the basalis aka Lilith appeared to me in sleep dreams and visions as a over 1000 foot long beautiful gentle giant A time ago in Eden my sweet Lilith is no monster like the dogmatic version of her but she is very protective of me Eve and Adam Lilith aka the basilisk is also Lucy isis Gaia in interdimsional form the basilisk who is Gaia Lilith Lucy isis in a reborn interdimsional incarnation is from the 7th Ray The basilisk is obviously the first beast of chapter 13 aka the basilisk is Lilith Gaia the vampire queen in a basilisk form tue first beast the second beast is her husband Lucifer in human form One of the indirect ways the basilisk kills is biting one in there sleep in there dreams what happens is the basilisk teleports you to her because when you are asleep you are more connected to your energy and soul so if the basilisk bite's you in your dreams you were truly bitten and you will die Shortly after it could he says week's or even months depending on who you are meaning it takes time for the venom to take effect she can kill you in your sleep literally with one bite because when you sleep you are connected to you soul and energy so if she bite's you in you sleep she literally bit your soul meaning you die

Well, we are limited in our ability to present all facts about these creatures, and we frequently ask viewers to add their own information and/or corrections where they find an oversight. Please feel free to do the same. It always surprising to us to see just how knowledgeable our viewer-base is. We might also feature your comment in our podcast.
