incorporating a huge ass 13mm dd and still having subpar bass is kinda crazy
@eludee11912 күн бұрын
because driver size has nothing to do with sound quality
@bigbuckoramma12 күн бұрын
If you look at a lot of larger than 10mm DDs out there, most of them are more vocal forward than bass heavy. And there are even some $300+ sets with smaller than 10mm DDs that are praised for their bass performance. Size isn't everything.
@JoelHernandez-tz3vk9 күн бұрын
@bigbuckoramma I always wonder myself if that's because even a 6mm DD is gargantuan relative to the air space it has to fill. It would be like a 30" subwoofer in your living room. It doesn't help that the same small air space likely heavily influences the driver's behavior. And don't even get me started on those that use multiple DDs for the bass. I don't think I'll ever figure out why some go push-push or push-pull, or could be just side by side.

Sounds like an amazing IEM for us EQ heads, you can just not worry about any peaks in the treble which is usually the hardest part to deal with while EQ-ing, and shape the rest of the response to your liking.
@juanblanco789813 күн бұрын
The resonances will shift in situ die to differences in ear canal volume and depth/angle of insertion (also diff ear tips) while the frequencies affected by Helmholtz resonators are fixed, hence there's absolutely no guarantee that the resonances will be cancelled out in your ear.

I tried out Moondrop's IEMs for the first time at CES this year. I compared the Moondrop Meteor ($500) to the Aria 2 ($90) and the Dark Saber ($800) IEMs. Although the Meteors definitely sounded the best to me and offered the most clarity and instrument separation, I found the Aria 2 IEMs to be "close enough". Anyways, I bought the Aria 2 for $64, and I'm incredibly satisfied with my first IEM purchase from Moondrop.

What an odd design point to make compromises on the shell design to fit such a large woofer for bass, just to tune the iem to have less bass. Seems like wasted potential, either from a comfort standpoint or fullness of the lower freq band pov...

@@thaflybear the technicals are great, especially for the ultra smooth treble. As for the bass, it is more laid back, rich and lush presentation. It doesn't hit or rumble hard. It is more suitable for relaxed songs. The vocals are way too forward and up close for me. The upper treble is a little too dark for me, which is just a nitpick from me.

I was very interested...then I saw that they're using the same cable that comes with IEMs 1/5th of the price, full resin build (that as you say multiple times would be nice not to see on a 300$+ product) and half the accessories as the Kadenz. At this point I'm going to wait for the IEM leaked with the DiscDream Ultra 2 marketing material, hoping that's a middle way between good accessories and decent build. It's good news that they're taming those micro-planars, IMO the ESTs are still superior if well implemented, but planar are evolving a long way and positively. Also, in all honesty...I'm waiting for Project Meta before spending any money this year :P
