As always Del. Lovely to see the project moving on. Its going to be a beast when she's done. Been out this morning teaching a new biker how to clean and change brake pads. Just passing on the knowledge you gave me a long time ago. Take it easy and all the best to you and Penny.

Thanks so much Christopher, its moving along now, it doesn't always go according to plan, i had a paint reaction on that primer this morning, and its been a long day so far slowly coating up over it so it doesn't react again... but progress all the same... thanks for you kind support buddy, enjoy your weekend.. TBH - The best way to do this is to pop the engine out, strip everything off the frame - then paint. I've done it on mine (a GSXR 750) and it doesn't take as long as you'd think. Its also an opportunity to replace any bearings etc. I used the same paint as you Del - its okay stuff and gives an older bike a nice fresh finish. Considering the amount of time and effort on the bike - that's the way I'd go, but like the energy and effort Del.
@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
You're dead right buddy, it does make a great fresh finish thats way better then the factory coating (what ever they use doesn't seem to last that long aye..!

Hi Del, as an enlightened being, who views paint as excess weight & anything more than a light dusting of green chromate to be bordering on obesity, I do have to say I'm impressed with the graft & prep you're putting into both the job AND the vids. Leaving the pointlessness aside for a moment, it is indeed a fascinating watch & I'm learning all sorts of tricks too. Much more of this & I might even have a go - nah, only kidding. (Hmm, Nicole Kidman in red oxide - now, that IS art) Also, that beast's skeleton is a real reminder of just how much things changed for road bikes in the 80's. Gone were the wobbly neck, skinny tube flexi-flyers that the U.J. manufacturers insisted on cramming ever more berserker amounts of neddies through, & in comes a creation that can actually keep the whole plot straight. Game changer. Live long & etch prime : )

(P) I love that you're hitting the fighter build hard & heavy now. You can tell you're focused on finishing it, and riding it this year! Of course, I love all your content, but I'm partial to the fighter build, since it began around the time I subscribed, and really captured my interest! It will be a great day, seeing it rolled out into the sunlight, and cranked up for its maiden voyage as a street fighter piece of art!

Thanks buddy, thats very kind, i am looking forward to getting out on it this year, so id better get a move on and make progress... still got a fare bit to do yet, but it'll be a lot easier once all the cycle parts are done and looking good.. Hi Del. This is what sticks to mind now, when being seeing your videos. DON´T LEAN ON IT !!! Was so pissed off by doing some work on my bike and having to undo the brutal force of the garage that previously done the service. They did lean on it and tightened every screw, bold oil filter, baseplate screws…. ridiculous. had to flex some screws of because they just didn't losen. Sorry guys. nothing to do with this video but just had to get this off my chest. SORRY. DON´T LEAN ON IT sticks.
@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi Bernhard, thats so often the case, i think maybe they fear things coming loose and the resultant claim that would lead to... Glad you got over the issues, now at least you'll be able to get things undone the next time you need to.. take care buddy.. Del.

Using this like a walk-through atm for me. Watching this at the filling station on my lunch break with a mug of tea. How do you cope with the waiting time for paint?! 😂 It's only been 4 days since the wheels were completed and I'm itching to get tyres back on them - and the tank and fairing. Im using primer as my "paint colour" and then I'm clear coating it, but how do get a decent glossy finish? Just wet sanding with increasing grades of paper, and then clear coat or am I missing something? Thanks Del
@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi mate... If you want shiny primer, like the old Hot Rodder stylee.... then yes you can clearcoat it.. but it will always look like lacquered primer, often patchy and unless its really thick, the clearcoat can make it go a little translucent..! But If you want a little sneaky trick.. find a flat, non metallic, car paint that is a the same shade as primer grey, almost the exact same shade as primer... then do two coats of that, then clearcoat it.. The proper top coat paint is impervious, unlike primer which is porous... so you'll get a much much better look, a lot more uniform and if you pick the right colour, nobody will know it aint polished primer..!! hope that helps mate. Del.

Hi Peter, the information on the paint says not to, but you can buy gloss, not just satin, so if you want it shiny, just buy that buddy..

@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff. It doesn't always go right, the paint reacted to the primer over night, you'll see in tomorrows video, but i think i got over it.. I hung the hooks up on the 'sound boxes'... those are wood frames with scrim net stretched over them to catch echo and make the acoustics better in the garage..
