Fairy Tale seems like the kind of shonen people would enjoy if they casually watch it and don't take it seriously, but when they really think about it they're like "oh...."
@thornray10257 жыл бұрын
It's probably much better when marathoned than when followed weekly since if you get only 1 chapter in a week you really focus on what happens there and if the content is poor you'll really notice it. If you were to watch/read bunch of it at once you wouldn't have time to focus on the bad stuff of single chapter and you could possibly even miss a lot of it. Since most of us do want to enjoy series we're watching/reading it'd make sense to only focus on the good parts and almost ignore the bad which is pretty easy when reading lot of material at once.

Back in the day (like 10 years ago) FT was so much fun to watch. But everytime I see it now, I think in all that potencial that was lost. FT is the story of a /generic shonen guy/ who is looking for his father (who is a dragon), but actually doesn't because has no clues and doen't even try to find him. They keep winning fights thanks to the power of friendship and when they dont, they get saved by the power of friendship. Every conflict is world changing (which is ok if done correctly) and actions have no consecuences for the main cast. Still, the show has a place in my heart. A lot of the themes that are poorly executed in the anime/manga ahve inspired me to write stories (that are hopefully better). Great video, I really needed to share these feelings somewhere
@lordartoriuscollbrande74344 жыл бұрын
That’s actually great and really interesting. I’d be very interested to watch or read whatever you think would accomplish Fairy Tail’s story way better and be way better written. SomePancake Natsu is a good character. He is just the generic childish good protagonist that loves food,fights,friends like Luffy,Naruto etc. But what makes him different is that he is baddass and that makes him a lot better. Laxus and Gajeel have a lot of screen time and they both protagonize some of the best moments like Gajeel iron shadow mode vs rogue. But I do agree that they should be even more important,But that’s also something that occurs in One piece with half of the strawhats.

Finally! I glad someone is saying something. I hate all this "it's just fun and pure" praise FT gets that finds itself as an excuse for the wrong issue(s). Ever since SuperEyepatch made his bleach video and almost every other shounen under the sun, I've been waiting for a video on FT but maybe it wasn't good/bad enough to talk about for him; I think I heard him mention he liked it but who knows how long since he's watched or re-watched it. When I was still getting into shows like One Piece and Naruto in highschool Fairy Tail came along and seemed like a fun addition to replace the hole Bleach left. And then I just started to notice things, like that thing that changes inside you when your tastes start to get more complex and nuanced. Now with the end of it's 10+ year manga run (with it's most egregious moments to date) I find myself baffled by how the rest of it's audience never caught on with me, while shows like One Piece, JoJo, HxH continue to be quality and *seem (?)* to all be liked by the same people. In a way I feel like FT was written in a world where Mashima never knew all the shounen that preceded his work ever existed. That's the impression the show gives.

@dracocrusher7 жыл бұрын
From what I've seen on his channel, Eyepatchwolf rarely really talks about stuff unless there's an interesting topic to discuss with it or unless it's something he really loves. So with Fairy Tail, I imagine it's a situation where he just enjoys it on a casual level, but he probably understands it really doesn't hold up to critical analysis and that there's not really many deeper topics to discuss with why it fails outside of the writing just being bad. Meanwhile, with something like Bleach, there's just all this data on when the series started tanking and which arcs people liked and hated and stuff and that was kind-of more of what his Bleach video was really about instead of it really being a discussion of its writing problems and what it specifically failed at.
@Manganization7 жыл бұрын
+davidrlz1001, it's difficult for Togashi to do have all of the main characters in one basket because they all have vastly different goals which doesn't really mix with each other. I miss seeing all of them together myself but I do think the story works better specifically because he doesn't have to share screentime between 4 main characters. Even when Leorio and the others we together, they were often temporarily split up.

One problem that I have with FT wasn’t how despite being the main protagonist, Natsu’s struggle is hard to relate to due to the way it was handled. Natsu's foster father disappearing is sad and all, but it takes up entirely too much time and too many words without stuff actually happening. Natsu's dragon disappeared when he was 10, there haven't been any signs of dragons since, and he's 17 when the story starts. If this story were at all believable, Natsu would be a broken boy, but he would've moved on by then, not flying into a rage when Cobra rightly says that dragons are extinct. Kids have had parents die and move on faster than that. No, I don't know why a dragon would give a kid a scarf when they both know fire magic, nor why it's Natsu's most prized possession. No, I don't get why Natsu relates finding Igneel with getting stronger as per Mirajane's word. HunterXHunter was similar to this but was executed way better because Gon actively searched for his father and it was the driving force of the story. Being stronger won't make that dragon un-disappear. Really, Natsu's struggle is the weakest of all the characters aside from Juvia's.

Quick correction on the part about Edolas. The reason Natsu came up with that plan was because Nadi (that Exceed whose arm seems to have gotten stuck in a "jacking off" motion) told him about it. Otherwise, this is a great video. It's so weird that the story would teach Natsu a lesson, have him consciously disregard it, and avoid repercussions. Luffy seeing Ace die was more impactful than Natsu seeing Igneel die because Luffy, since Saboady, had been repeatedly kicked around by people way out of his league, and all that damage finally makes him give out at the worst possible moment. Natsu feels impotent for being unable to help Igneel against Acnologia, but then we learn that Igneel had his soul ripped out and would have died anyway, which was completely beyond Natsu's control.

Jin Tohaku The revealation of usual Fairy Tail Plot moments and other media is far different. Dumdledore died in the 6. book after we knew him for 6 books. The reason that he would have diedwas revealed in book 6. The dramatic in FT doesn´t matter because we didn´t knew Igneel in the first place. All we knew were mind puzzles shown by Natsu when he was talking about Igneel. We could even argue if Ace was that much of an impact as he appeared twice in the Manga before he was killed. Meanwhile the 3. Hokage had an bigger impact because he was shown as an source of security of Konoha and even seem to somehow seemed to like Naruto (we later know that he knew about him being Minatos child). So it was an impact when he sacrificed himself beating back the biggest threat in Naruto at that point.

I haven't seen Fairy Tail, but to me it sounds like the author wrongfully thought that, since magic defies science and ergo is nonsensical, it can be used as a device to make literally whatever you want happen, no matter how little meaning or logic it has. Granted, there are good manga that take advantage of the fact that not everything supernatural has to be explained to make a good story (Berserk is a fantastic example), but even if the actual supernatural thing is nonsensical, it's all for naught if they overall themes of the story are made nonsensical.

Okay, I’ll say it. If Hiro mashima actually used other characters and gave them good characterization I would love them. Two examples of this are. Jellal and Juvia 1 Jellal could have had a very good redemption arc along with the oracion sies and become a good character instead of a favorited background character. Juvia: same thing, sooo much wasted potential with this one. Juvia’s backstory explains why she is pretty clingy to Gray since he was one of the first people to show her kindness. But bruh if her character arc was her gaining new friends in fairy tail and eventually leading to her becoming less attached to Gray and more independent I would like her character way more. A fan fiction user could write these two better.

Fairy Tail is a quilty pleasure. I totally agree the plotholes and characterisation doesn't add anything to advance the plot. I would even say it's so generic, it's normal it got so popular. Yet, I just find it fun to watch, with a lot good comedy compared to other big shounen. And characters that are fun to watch. And I'm glad the anime version will get to the conclusion, unlike Bleach, worst in all regards. Unlike Naruto, who became a boring mess for a sake of milking the cow to the end. And unlike One Piece, which i adore, but has horrible pacing issue to a point it's hardly enjoyable nowadays. So in the end, Fairy Tail will win, like it or not: the manga ended and the anime version will get the same conclusion at a decent pace. It's more than what the big 3 ever acheived.

@BASSFZz7 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of problems with Fairy Tail's narrative, but you're not being fair to it. You probably won't get to read this essay, BUT IMMA WRITE IT ANYWAY! XD Let's start off with Natsu as a competent and intelligent fighter, something you hand-waved away from whatever reason. You focused on Arc ending Boss battles to complain about his power-up (which are bullshit, by the way, you are right), HOWEVER In many of Natsu's fights he does have to be cleaver or use the enemies weaknesses to his advantage to win. Or sometimes he outright just needs help. And there's a long list to go through, so let's begin. In the very start of the series, Natsu vs. Erigor, Natsu created a giant fire storm that caused the air around Erigor to get hot and rise. That broke through Erigor's tornado shield and allowed Natsu to finish him. In the Deliora arc, when Natsu fought a mage that could cancel magic in his sphere, Natsu punched through the barrier but kept his elbow outside of the range of the sphere in order to propel his fist through it by using his fire elbow to accelerate. I don't know why, but you handwaved this away. When Natsu fought Zancrow he realized that the flames had more magic energy in them than he could absorb outright. So he had to empty out the magic in his container in order to make room for the massives amount of energy he was about to eat. AND because Slayers cannot eat their own flames, Zancrow couldn't do anything against a combination of God and Dragon fire. That's how Natsu won that. When Natsu fought Jackal in the Tartaros arc he realized that he would just get hurt if he let the explosions go off, so instead he ate the explosions that Jackal cause to power up, as well as negate most of the damage. And when Natsu fought Franmalth he realized that Fran could eat magic, so instead of hitting him with more magic attacks, Lucy and Natsu tricked him and then Natsu grabbed a giant rock, something without a soul, and used it to crush Franmalth. It's execution was rather crude, but again it shows Natsu is still a very analytical fighter. I have no idea why you aren't fair to Natsu, but his headstrong attitude has indeed been shown to his strength because that's the theme of Fairy Tail. It's a writing decision you don't like, but you can't criticize the show for being bad because of it. One of the constant themes of Fairy Tail is never giving up when people you care about are in danger. It's pretty similar in regards to Saint Seiya (or Knights of the Zodiac). It's understandable enough to not like a show where the character wins because they can force a win through sheer willpower only...but that theme is pretty constant in One Piece too. Soooooooo you're gonna have to be fair and criticize One Piece for having the same theme Fairy Tail was probably based around. Now...For some reason...I don't know why...but you weren't fair to Natsu when he fought Zancrow. The thing about fear and surrendering, is that it is only relevant when it's an option. The lesson Natsu learned when he fought Zancrow was about bravery. Natsu knew he couldn't defeat Gildarts and that continuing to fight would have accomplished nothing. HOWEVER, Natsu couldn't surrender to Zancrow because Wendy was in danger, and then Makarov afterwards. These are two different contexts. One is a match that has no stakes, while the other is a death match. Do you honestly think Natsu should have said, "Welp...go ahead and kill me Zancrow?" The truth of the matter was, Natsu had the best chance out his entire guild to defeat Zancrow for 1, and for 2, people's lives were at stake. This wasn't Natsu spitting in the face of Gildarts lesson, it was Natsu learning A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LESSON altogether. He had to learn to not be reckless and headstrong for the sake of it, but to be brave in order to protect people in the face of overwhelming power. So this comment was about his fights, the next comment is going to about the plot.

Fairy Tail's fights get somehow always fucked up, whether it's a totally out-of-nowhere power-up, an easy fight dragged out to look harder or a fast ending that makes no sense and kills one of the most OP characters (yes, Acnologia, I'm talking to you). The thing is, while Hiro's writing bases a lot on friendship (which, aside from not being that bad also lets us see a little bit of his personality) he also does some amazing storylines such as END being Natsu and at the same time Zeref's "brother". It might not be the most innovative thing you'll hear of but that was pretty mind-blowing. Also, you should check out Eden's Zero to see more of that. So while he's not the best in the world, he is quite good and, at least, his stories make sense (not like a tale about seven magic balls I was told some time ago) and, as always, in the end it depends on how do you like it. I personally love his writing, even though I admit that the "family-friendly" policy sometimes gets on my nerves
@masterspoon58624 жыл бұрын
Oh boy, here we fucking go, Fairy Tail. Why Fairy Tail? I'm not going to beat around the bush here: it's personal, as you will come to find out. Because though it's like a petty piece of petulant pith in between my teeth, I just can't seem to let some things go. Because once upon a time, Fairy Tail broke me, my butt has been bothered ever since. Even at the time I did enjoy it, and there was such a time, one thing that burned my belly was the ludicrous label of 'Bleach Piece', tossed around at the inception thanks to a few vaguely similar character designs and some surface similarities. But while Mashima has no doubt been influenced by the massive success that is One Piece, the complexities and nuances make all the difference, even in the most straightforward ways.

Here’s one way I think the Alvarez arc could have been done. It’s probably not a good idea, but I’ll let whoever is reading this judge that. Natsu doesn’t return. Lucy decides to start all of this back by herself. So what happens with Natsu? Natsu is with Gildarts when they come across Irene. She says she wants Natsu under Zeref’s orders. Gildarts fights her and dies to her overwhelming might. Right before his death he gives Natsu his power, and Natsu gains Crash magic. He’s about to go on a killing spree but Irene steals Happy and does some magic so if Natsu kills her, Happy dies too. As such, Natsu is forced to follow her. When they get to Zeref, he orders Natsu to join the Spriggan. Natsu does so for Happy’s sake. We don’t know any of this though. Irene is memory wiped and Natsu wears a cloak, going by the name “Spriggan 13.” He follows Zeref’s every command. When the war happens, Natsu does nothing for a long while. Like I said, probably a bad idea, but eh. Also, Acno, Zeref, and Natsu should have been in a tier of their own. Laxus’ nuke on Ajeel or Sema shouldn’t even be comparable to what these three beasts can dish out.
@BASSFZz7 жыл бұрын
Here's something I find really strange about your criticism of Natsu's motivations...the fact that you miss it entirely. Natsu is more implicit in his motivations than explicit. Natsu's entire motivations for being a Fairy Tail wizard is to go out and find Igneel. He uses the quests to earn money, and as an excuse to explore. The main thought of finding Igneel is never lost on Natsu. Even after his fight with Gajeel he still asks him about Dragons. Natsu actually spends the entire manga asking about Igneel when it's relevant. His motivations are not as direct and in your face as Naruto, but to pretend that it's weak or none existence is just dishonest. In other words, Natsu is "hitting two birds with one stone." He needs an excuse to travel around, but he needs money to...be? To live? I dunno. Natsu's job is conducive to his entire goal. Natsu becoming an S-class mage means he would be able to take more dangerous quests that could lead him to finding clues about Igneel, seeing as Igneel is a bloody dragon and could be pretty dangerous...You have to purposefully be either ignoring the story, or purposefully obtuse to not understand this. (Also, Natsu wants to be stronger than Erza and Laxus because he likes competition. It's the same as someone wanting to beat their best friend in a game of basketball. It's...it's not even complex to understand this. This is just normal shit people do. Why are there leaderboards on a video game in an arcade? Come on man, that point is just reaching.) Now, this is odd to me. Because this is the same exact plot thread as One Piece and as HunterxHunter, yet you pretend Natsu is unreasonable, but you're fine with Luffy. Here's the thing though: Luffy's goal is to find One Piece and become the Pirate King...yet in 20 years of story progress Luffy is no closer to his goal. In fact, Luffy will literally stop his entire quest to help people that have nothing to with him or his goal. I ask you...how is this okay as a story that's been going on for 20 years, but it's Bull crap when Fairy Tail has the same structure, but actually has the overall plot interconnected all the way through? The simple answer is cognitive bias. You like One Piece and HunterxHunter, so it's okay when they do it, but you have to find silly reasons to criticize Fairy tail for it. Also, you were wrong about Natsu wanting to find the book of END. When Igneel dies Natsu's new motivation is to kill Achnologia. In order to accomplish that goal, he leaves off on a training journey. A bit of a nitpick I guess...but you were just wrong. Here's another thing that gets me. It's fine the Gon can't find his dad because...because his dad is shy and purposefully makes it hard for his son, but it's wrong if Natsu can't find Igneel when Igneel and the Dragons have a reason to not show themselves to the Dragon Slayers? Now here's another thing that is mind-blowing to me. The fact that you criticize a story for having contrived coincidences. Dude...THAT'S LITERALLY EVERY STORY EVER TOLD...EVER. The big bad wolf just so happened to be in the same forest as Little Red Riding Hood. Mr. Anderson just so happened to be the One. "Oh what's this? Neo is an anagram of One! What a coincidence!" Superman just so happened to be sent to a planet with a Yellow Sun! How about that! Oh snap, Luke just so happened to the son of Darth Vader. Who would have thought? A story is a bunch of coincidences told in an arc for entertainment purposes. You can break down any story as just that, coincidences that just really don't make sense. Because of course they don't, it's a fictional story. It's like literally complaining about how cars have wheels. Natsu' character movtivations don't fail, you fail to understand them because they aren't spoon fed to you like Naruto and One Piece. And don't be wrong, I enjoy all three of these manga. So I'm not fanboying. I'm just being reasonable.

BASSFZz Natsus goal is too convoluted
@pages45737 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest issue is that despite that Natsu's goal is still rather divorced from the rest of the story. No matter what HE HAS to follow the rules of the guild, or at least be aware of them and the guild itself doesn't really help with finding that goal. No one sets out or purposely actually go out of their way to help Natsu find his dad, making the whole point of the guild kind of pointless besides friendship. (Though this kind of leads into more of the cultish behavior the guild can have at times) Him being in the guild doesn't make sense since the guild itself you could argue actively gets in his way. Due to the rules he can't take S-class jobs because they are too dangerous a restriction that is only there because he is apart of Fairy tail. It's not like he needs a home and it has been shown that he is just as capable of going around finding jobs and food himself, so it's not like he NEEDS the Jobs.. His motivations are clearly there to be a hero that wanders around with his group etc, yet they have a home base they need to go back to. Thus excuses need to be made to say where he needs to go there etc.

"I think the biggest issue is that despite that Natsu's goal is still rather divorced from the rest of the story. No matter what HE HAS to follow the rules of the guild, or at least be aware of them and the guild itself doesn't really help with finding that goal." This makes no sense to me. How is obtaining money to live against his goal of finding Igneel? "No one sets out or purposely actually go out of their way to help Natsu find his dad, making the whole point of the guild kind of pointless besides friendship." How...is earning money to live...pointless? "(Though this kind of leads into more of the cultish behavior the guild can have at times)" Yeah, but that kinda seems to be the point honestly. "Him being in the guild doesn't make sense since the guild itself you could argue actively gets in his way." I'm still trying to figure out how making money is getting in his way. "Due to the rules he can't take S-class jobs because they are too dangerous a restriction that is only there because he is apart of Fairy tail." A restriction he can get over by becoming an S-class wizard...How about that? Still not seeing the problem here. "It's not like he needs a home and it has been shown that he is just as capable of going around finding jobs and food himself, so it's not like he NEEDS the Jobs." This is silly. If Natsu went around finding jobs...HE'D STILL BE DOING JOBS! Did you even read that sentence? If he was going to have to go through the trouble of doing jobs to get money then it makes, even more, sense to be apart of the guild. This way you can get help on those jobs, and those jobs are centralized based on experience and skill level. "His motivations are clearly there to be a hero that wanders around with his group etc, yet they have a home base they need to go back to. Thus excuses need to be made to say where he needs to go there etc." And? What is the problem? I don't see the issue here. Natsu is acting more like a normal person than anything else. He wants to find Igneel, it doesn't mean every action for his entire life has to revolve around this. Every step he takes doesn't have to be him looking for Igneel. Having a home to go back to isn't against him wanting to find his dad. These are reasonable action a normal person would make. Having a home means he has stability AFTER HE FUCKING FINDS IGNEEL. If he spent his whole life looking for Igneel (which funny story was inside of him the entire time) he'd be isolated and alone for years. To somehow criticize a character for being normal enough to get a home and a job and say something is wrong with that is some absurdity of the highest levels.

Its your voice. Well, its not your actual voice, its the way you talk. First of all you talk way too fast. Like way too fast. You also have to make a pause between sentences or it doesn't give us time to breathe. It sounds like your just saying one sentence the fastest possible. Also because your talking to fast a lot of the words you are saying come out mummbly and I don't quite understand them. Also you talk with so much force. For an example go to one of supereyepatch wolfs videos. He talks calmly and most importantly softly. but you talk very forcfly. Try to calm it down and talk soft. So those are my feedback to you and please work on them because it will boost your content and make you even better: talk slower, calmer, softer, and take pauses between sentences or when needed to.

Fairy Tail used to be really Enjoyable in my opinion. I loved it at first. Was super entertaining with cool premise and nice music. Sadly once they got to that parallel world arc, the show started going downhill for me. I just couldn’t enjoy it.

For this being a video on Fairy Tail you seem to spend a lot of time talking about One Piece, as you yourself say the similarities are skin deep, so what point does it serve to compare the two? Certainly Fairy Tail has serious flaws and I don't disagree with most of your points despite enjoying the series myself, but I just don't see what point is trying to be proven in this video, is it an exposee on Fairy Tail's flaws or a comparison of Fairy Tail and One Piece? It seems to be trying to be both and as a result I left this video without a clear impression of what was being conveyed.

Ah my apologies then, I misinterpreted your intention as a stand alone critique on Fairy Tail, I read the title then opened the pastebin document on my phone, rereading it as a comparison makes this a lot clearer.

You know after hearing your rants I'm almost tempted to go get the stuff to make videos to rant about more specific parts like one for each character and the dark guilds and a breakdown of why I believe that the spriggan 12 are some of the worst antagonists in the series (if not entire antagonist factions in mainstream anime).

Regarding Mystogun's plan, Nadei (the air fapping cat) had overheard their plan and told Natsu what to do. The scene was extremely poorly executed, as the cat wasn't shown near them when the talk happened, and there was no time at all between Mystogun's discussion with Lily and the havock Natsu started causing that the plan could be discussed with the Dragonslayers, but at least there was a proper explanation for why Natsu did that. It wasn't his plan, it was someone else's.

Please stop saying Kuma and Hoteye look alike. Aside from holding a bible, the two look literally nothing alike. It seems really stupid to make note of the fact that people make dumb copycat accusations while also making a dumb copycat accusation.

I really enjoyed it at first. I started with the manga and when there was no translation (I was lazy for English) I started watching the anime. I was amazed by it. Loved the characters, their backstories and adventures together. They were lovable and pretty funny for me to watch. But it somehow changed, it has got worse and worse by each episode. Everything was ruined for me in the final season. I was sure that nothing about the ending was planned from the begining. I'm really sorry about it, because this was the first series I watched with over 300 episodes. I'm recently reading One Piece (I find it fantastic) and you can feel Mashima took a lot from Oda. The drawing style of the earlier chapters, the storytelling and so on.
@krneki00744 жыл бұрын
if Im correct, Mashima worked for Oda while he was making One Piece, or something like that. Thats why everything feels similar. Gildarts has almost the same design as Shanks, because Mashima tried to honour Oda by making a side character with his design. Im pretty sure that Oda agreed to it too, not 100% tho
