4:45 Great animation. Is this for an upcoming course?
@hpa1012 ай бұрын
It's from the motorsport plumbing course. It covers fuel lines as pictured in that animation as well as brake, clutch, oil, coolant and powersteering, along with the associated tools and materials for the likes of AN fittings or barb fittings etc that Kevin mentioned in this interview too. You can find the course here: hpcdmy.co/0ct It takes a lot of work but this is the level we're at for the animations we add to HPA course material these days thanks to the team, in particular Sam who is also behind the camera during many of these interviews. He's great at fending off people who try to walk through the shot every 60 seconds too 😅 - Taz.

I am starting my build - engine and trans purchased but planning and parts buying before I install - I have mid-engine saddle fuel tanks that join by pipe then go to fuel filter and pump. even on my 450 - 500hp NA build a surge tank sort of sounds like it will provide the safety to keeping my injectors filled, much like an drysump or accusump would do for the oiling in making sure there is always fuel in a reserve to feed the injectors. Is it really for turbo cars or does it provide the same safety in a lower hp NA build - or does it really matter more when there is a fuel cell that has more slosh and pickup issues? I still don't understand why more fuel cells are not funneled on the bottom panel and gravity feeding the pump vs. top mounted pumps...
@kjknuth91272 ай бұрын
@sltillim I think the reason more manufacturers aren't going bottom mount is the same reason semis quit running cross over tubes, too easy to rip shit off.

You can get fuel surge issues in N/A applications too. We got it quite bad in the SR86 when it was still running the N/A 1UZ-FE on E50 (it was really built for the street by the previous owner, nothing against them for that). Like most things, it depends how you use the car. The previous owner only had it on semi-slicks and I think just did a bit of sprint racing (we were just doing 1 hour enduros on full slicks), so the issue didn't pop up at all for them I believe. I guess the point there is an issue that can cause problems and should be taken seriously, but it's also something that you might waste money addressing needlessly. Look into what others using that system are doing and saying regarding fuel surge vs power levels vs use cases and make some educated decisions from there. If you're an HPA member you can post up in the forum and see what info you can gather there too - Taz.

Bit late getting this one out which worked out perfectly for you it seems, how good! Glad you enjoyed it and cheers for the support 😎 The boys are just back from this years WTAC with a bunch of new content so will ramp things up in a few weeks as that comes through - Taz.

Which do you think is better for a track car? An in-tank surge tank vs. Holley hydramat
@hpa1012 ай бұрын
We haven't personally used the hydramat so can't really comment on it sorry. Others certainly have had good experiences with it noting the shape of your tank arguably plays a big roll in your decision making for one: www.hpacademy.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/show/quick-fuel-surge-protection/#post31145 - Taz.

It's sad these cars are so expensive... I miss when car culture was men who worked on their own cars and the cars weren't expensive.

There are still cheap cars around, but times and prices have certainly moved on for some models for sure - Taz.

@@hpa101 I don’t see any evidence of cheap cars. What cars are cheap?

It's the financialization of everything that has made everything expensive.

Where do you live? I can link you to your local eBay or Facebook market place. On mine, a bunch of Honda, Mazdas, VWs, Subarus and more which all have a ton of aftermarket support for mods and tuning software etc beyond just the high spec models. None of them are free, and you have to pay to play regardless, but they're not $100k+ GTR's that's for sure 👍 Have a look around your local car club at the grass roots level and see what others are running too - Taz.
@bradysmith30242 ай бұрын
@@hpa101 Well, when you put it like that, I see your point. I bought an rx8 for 4k USD this year and will be dropping a Chevy V6 from a Camaro into it soon. It should be a decent track car that I don't mind wrecking. That's the only one I really liked out of honda mazda vw or lesbarus. s2000 is nice, but way overpriced, too.

Weird B-Roll and diagrams that aren't related to the uniqueness of FPG's design at all.
@hpa1012 ай бұрын
We used what he had b-roll wise noting the explanation of a surge tank is independent of what is being discussed regarding FPG's setup🤘 - Taz.

So basically it's modern lol GM has the same thing from factory except it's in the gas tank
@hpa1012 ай бұрын
Hopefully it's not the same as the ZL1 which can have fuel surge issues with the tank half full though eh 😅 In essence you are mordernising a vehicle doing this, but also what you need for a road car vs a track/race car is always going to be different, modern GM or otherwise 🤘 - Taz.

German cars have had a similar setups since like the late 90s lol
