More Scammers who Dumped Me (plus Bonus Fake Hacker Scambaiting)

Not every conversation I have with email scammers turns into something I can publish - in fact the vast majority do not, however, sometimes, I still manage to have a little fun along the way. Here is a compilation of scambaiting attempts where that happened.

They'd send some long prewritten text, I'd pretend I cared about it, then they would ask for the kind of information you should never give out on the Internet, while profusely assuring me (be rest assured!) they are 100 percent legitimate, then... I'm usually the one to dump scammers on the dating site I frequent. When it becomes screamingly obvious that they are a scammer (divorced/widowed, ONE kid, military, and super poor English) it becomes time to give them the boot. "Why insulted me?" one typed when I started in on him. It's since become a joke at work. XD

A thing I like to do: If they say you are visiting whereever the consignment box/ gold bars/money is and you can pick it up shortly so there is no need for a courier, they get flustered and try to dial back their scam. Great fun to watch. Just dont be too assertive that usually scares them of.

@@AtomicShrimp I feel like the short form of a three or four line summary also forces the scammer to try to phrase the basic premise of the scam, which is much more obviously a scam when read without all the side tangents and unrelated extra details, in such a way that it doesn't raise a million red flags. Then to be able to reinflate that into a more detailed statement in a way that, as you said, isn't just copy/paste. It probably wastes a LOT of their time

If not for some means like information selling or identify theft (unsure how common the 2nd one is), the IDs and information templates simply existed to make them seem more believable... It seems these days that most of our victims of Canadian scammers are people looking for places to rent through social media. Some of our moving companies, coincidentally, are outright scams too.

5:00 You said you weren't sure where this one went if you played along, So here you go The premise of this scam, to sum it up, is that this scammer's company currently buys a large amount of some product, either as a tool of their trade or raw materials. The scammer claims he found a new supplier who sells this product MUCH cheaper. So much cheaper that he wants you to receive the much cheaper product, then resell it to his company at a price that is less than what they currently pay, but much higher than what you bought it for, allowing you to profit by doing nothing and raking in the margins. He will give you the information and put you in touch with his company to facilitate this free money at the cost of you sharing with him a cut of the profit. where this scam goes: He for whatever reason cannot make the first order for you. He expects you to "buy a product" from this new supplier he found at an incredible low price, but with your own money, with the expectation that you'll able to sell it right back to his company at a higher price. The "new supplier" is just the scammer using a different email account and his company will never show up to buy this product from you, nor will any product actually be delivered. If you seem suspicious or too cautious the scammer will possibly promise that he'll make future payments with his cut of the profits, and this will just become passive income you'll never have to interact with again if you show suspicion, or even offer to pay for 'part' of the first order with you, effectively halving the amount of money he's attempting to scam you out of in an attempt to reel you back in. In lieu of a second fake business email from a supplier, the scammer may alternatively just ask you to send him the money for the product directly, stating that he'll order it in your name and resell it to his company for you, basically eliminating the need to have you be involved at all, but insist that you still need to send him the money for the first order and sign off in some way with having him use you as the "middle man" As always, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If this were a real circumstance a man working for this company found himself in, and he was of a mind to scam his own company out of this margin of profit by withholding information about this new supplier, he would simply be the middle man himself, pretending to be a third party with a fake email account and maybe a fake website. There's almost no conceivable reason to get a third party involved. Certainly not a complete stranger on the internet.
