People are so dumb... its recommended not hike those areas during Monsoon. Think of all that $$ to rescue them.

I think many visitors from other parts of the country don't realize that the Southwest US has a monsoon season and are caught off guard by the storms and flooding. By and large the US doesn't have monsoons. We mostly hear of monsoons in other parts of the world.

Why would people not know this could happen?

The sky clearly looks angry and the weather called for rain that day. But these guys say "sure lets go for a hike in a flash flood canyon". I cannot with these people.

So they knew this “monsoon” season happens every year at the same time….yet they don’t close off the area to hikers/campers/visitors even though they know people’s lives will be in danger. They should have to close it off…they can be open for the rest of the year…but during something like this they should be closed and not allow people to enter the area.

They would have to close most of Arizona. There are dry stream beds everywhere just waiting for the flood that will hit them.

No surprise the Tribe helped outsiders or that they me be swamped with press calls and emails. Hopefully they are all also okay!

That is terrifying & there’s no way you are surviving that water anyone that knows the power of water knows once your in that water it’s all over. Most of the time I’m sure this is a beautiful area but ya after hearing this story over & over no thanks I’d rather not place myself in that position.

I said that the other day on the last flood and some moron got mad because it doesn’t happen in the exact same spot every year. 😢😢😢. We can’t fix stupid!!!! Outsiders have no clue how quickly it happens and even when no clouds are visible in the location

A first time backpacker should be barred from this remote and dangerous area. As a longtime, experienced backpacker I would not go there. The first rule of survival is to avoid dangerous conditions. Do not put yourself into harm's way. Be safe!

Why would the tribe spend money to fix the weather station or stream gauge? They dont get stuck with the bill for sending in the Blackhawk helicopters.
