BRILLIANT tips. I’ve been micromanaging a lot of things and failing. Thank you so much for this! Please make another video for managers who have OCD and are insane perfectionists; They have no choice but to intervene and micro manage everything coz of their mind. Would be incredibly helpful! God Bless!

summary: talk about your vision, strategy and why you wanna get there. support them and resist the impulse to control every detail 1) focus on the result, not the way to the result. set the goal and let the employeed find their own ways 2) learning from mistakes 3) 80:20 rule (pareto) 4) write your own job description. what are your top 3 responsibilities? (e.g. strategise, innovate, inspire) ... review this 5) pretend it's the day before you go on a vacation. => makes you focus on the tasks that have the highest effect

1. Always focus on the result, not the approach to the result - yes, how employees do something might be different from your approach 2. Employees will make mistakes and learn from mistakes (no mistakes can only happen when no work being done) 3. 80:20 rule (same as the rule from Built to Last: you only need 85% of critical tasks done correctly) 4. Write your own job description and stick to the high priority items 5. Pretend it's the day before you're going on vacation

GREAT VIDEO!. I was remembering some years with my worst boss, 1000% MICROMANAGER. The worst part of that period was that it seems to be part of that Company culture (old-fashioned I guess). I learn how NOT to be a boss (that was the learning of that job),I do have my issues, but I'm working on them in order to be a better leader. Regards from Monterrey /Mexico

I micromanage as an engineer who must delegate to people I don't get to choose. I do not know how to trust anyone when I'm surrounded by people who've been there in less than a year but I am responsible for meeting project deadlines and quality. I desperately need to stop micromanaging and can't figure out how.

I think I am both a victim and a perpetrator of micromanagement, thus trying to pay a lot of attention to this. I’m still working on it, but in the meantime I ask myself if I overlooked other aspects of leadership by over-emphasizing this.

Mister Bernd, thanks for your such amazing content and helpful advices , I really love your way of teaching and your humbleness! I have one quick question, I work in the company Emaar in Dubai , our company management is very nice, but there are micromanagers , they look at every single tone of our speaking,dressing, chatting , because we are dealing with customers, because of there are monitoring every single ditels, I make more even mistakes, in the office when I start working, I feel very not comfortable and feeling weak , whatever I make mistakes, the managers show them of on the WhatsApp group to all colleagues, i then feel very insecure, I am almost 1 year working in the company, I still feel not confident, even I see the company building from outside , I have hatred working there, please advise me , is it maybe my poor understanding or company poor management?

Managers who feel the need to micro-manage are probably not managing effectively at all. Poor management behaviour (of this type) may suggest an unhealthy workplace environment.

Worked for employer for many years who severely micromanaged me and my life. It's partly my fault for tolerating it. In the end I just followed his direction with zero fucks for him, customers and company. Now I have no respect for managers.

Is asking everyday for work status a form of micromanaging? As "how is this report going?" "Have you performed this task?" I feel like it is but I am not sure
@BerndGeropp
@BerndGeropp 4 ай бұрын
It feels like micromanaging to me, as well. But that depends on what you agreed with your employee on. I usually recommend to set milestones and then only ask for the status on these dates. Not in between. It also depends on how well your employee performs tasks independently. If your employee still needs a lot of support from you, you should set milestones that aren't far apart from one another. If your employee can handle the tasks by themselves, then one milestone can be enough. Or even just ask this employee to report to you when the task is completed. Some years ago I wrote a blog post about this topic. You can read it here: www.berndgeropp.com/how-to-delegate/ This might help you.
