He was so right. Every generation can watch shows like Little House or The Waltons and appreciate it as much as other generations but only those who were around in the 70s can truly appreciate Mork & Mindy, plus Little House lasted more than twice as long.

As a kid, I thought as you did thinking Mork and Mindy was the "it" show. I even had the trading cards. I've watched a few episodes of Mork and Mindy as an adult and it doesn't have the same draw as when I was a kid. As you know, the best thing about that show was the amazingly funny/talented Robin Williams. But here I am still watching Little House. I've watched ALL the seasons/episodes of LH at least 8 times over and have the DVD set. Michael Landon was right, here us Bonnetheads are still watching LH 50 years later. Patrick, I still love your performances on LH and one of my favorites is "Men Will Be Boys" where you worked with your brother. I love this channel which is growing, since I first subscribed to it. You have incredible stories.

Interesting observation. I never thought about TV shows that way, but I guess that’s why Michael Landon was an ace producer.

I befriended Rich Lilley on a series in the 90s, and had many conversations with him. A true gentleman. He doubled Michael Landon, and always said he was a good guy...among other things lol.

It must be a wonderful feeling to know that whatever ups and downs life brings over the years, nothing will take away the pride and satisfaction that you were part of something that good. TV shows intended to be heartwarming family dramas were mostly a dime a dozen. I think a big difference maker in why Little House and The Waltons stood out and endure is that the warmth wasn’t forced and unbearably corny. Another thing that helps, in my opinion, is that both shows remembered what eras they were set in. With some TV shows and movies set in the past, the only real reminders of what period it’s supposed to be are things like clothing. Little House and The Waltons, on the other hand, portrayed the specific challenges and struggles of those times.

That is incredible insight! I wonder if Michael ever met Robin Williams. Oh to be a fly on THAT wall. Love your channel. 54 year old from Seattle sending love tonight. Take care! 💖

I think a lot of tv shows/films set in older times always last better than more modern ones. Little House was based on real people and although it didn't show the extent of what it was probably "really" like back then, it still told the interesting story of Laura and as time went on, everybody was the same, unlike more modern shows where hairstyles and clothes change every 5 minutes. Period dramas, they don't age either for some reason. A Wonderful Life, 1946 - that doesn't seem dated either 😕 Of course, not all more modern shows "date", but a lot do. This was really interesting, thank you - Hugs from Scotland 😊

I listened to STAR TREK THE REAL STORY here on KZbin and HERB SOLOW came up with the CAPTAIN’S LOG and making STAR TREK be more believable because it was in the past (well future past). That the voyages had already happened.

Did you know that Mork & Mindy's original title was supposed to be Mork From Ork with a young Todd Bridges? Yes, but he turned down the offer to star on Diff'rent Strokes instead. Remember Eugene from the first season of Mork & Mindy? The premise would have had Mork live in the attack and Eugene (Bridges) would have befriended Mork along with his Grandmother. 🥚👨‍🚀🛸✨

One reason why BACK TO THE FUTURE isn’t dated (except 2 but that was an alternate universe) is because it’s a “period piece.” 1985...1955.

LITTLE HOUSE is still beloved and is readily available not only in America but in countries on every continent except Antarctica. Can anyone name another one-hour dramatic TV series from the 1970s that is still as popular now? Landon was most correct. You can barely even find Mork and Mindy streaming--though being a Gen Xer, I did love it as a kid.

Garry Marshall, who created Mork and Mindy said the exact thing Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley.. Mork and Mindy is dated, but you never get tired of Robin Williams riffing and improvisations…

True After 1 1/2 years i stopped watching Mork and Mindy. But little house, bonanza, the Waltons, MASH...i can still watch. Oddly enough, the Andy Griffith Show was done in its modern time and still a favorite to watch. So...there are exceptions.

Mork and Mindy is one of the great examples of network interference ruining a show. It was a top 10 hit during season 1. So ABC in its infinite wisdom decided to change its timeslot (from Thursday to Sunday), replace the supporting cast (the dad and grandma were deemed too old), and disco-ize the theme song. Ratings dropped like a rock, and the show was never in the top 10 again.

I loved MORK as a kid but that show is horrible now. Robin Williams was annoying in it. Now I think his “humor” was too much. BUT he was an incredible dramatic actor and MRS DOUBTFIRE is a perfect balance of his dramatic acting and fantastic humor.

Mork and Mindy was soooo bad. I was born in 1968, and watched Mork and Mindy live when it aired for years. The puffer vests are sad. I remember it Jumped the Shark when Jonathan Winters was added. It's crazy that Pam Dawber totally vanished after the show.. even though married to Mark Harmon
