literally, The Book of Mormon says, verse 20-21 "And he [God] had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people *the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them* - 2 Nephi 5:20-21 This parallels the Mormon book of scripture that says God punished Cain (who slew Abel), and Cain's descendants, with a black skin. Quote from the Mormon canonized book of scripture the Book of Moses (which is in the Mormon Scripture book titled "The Pearl of Great Price") Moses 7:22 "for *the seed of Cain were black* , and had not place among them ." and Moses 7:8 For behold, the Lord shall curse the land with much heat, and the barrenness thereof shall go forth forever; and there was *a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were despised among all people* So, in Mormon scripture, the Word of God, being melanated is a curse directly from God. The Mormon Church has institutionalized RACISM! All of the above verses are _STILL_ canon, meaning they are the recognized Word of God regarding race. How is the Mormon Church going to do away with its institutionalized racism?

@raggy27123 жыл бұрын
@@lraoux what’s the difference between Joseph Smith starting the religion as opposed to him being the prophet of it? If he was the translator and Jesus spoke to him, then saying he didn’t “start Mormonism” is irrelevant because then no one really did. The way I see it is that Mormons actively try to stray away from the history of the religion and essentially disown their own prophet by denouncing his significance because they know the story is difficult to believe
@lraoux3 жыл бұрын
@@raggy2712 the difference is how it relates back to Jesus, because HE is the source of inspiration for Mormons - not Joseph Smith. Talk to any Mormon, Smith is always acknowledged only as the 'restorer' (of a practice that once existed long ago). He is never worshipped for being *the* prophet (e.g. in the way that Christ is by Catholics, Muhammad by Muslims, or even L Ron Hubbard by Scientologists). And you're right, Mormons do basically actively try to stray away from the history (which is why this girl's really overwhelmed here lol- Trey Parker and Matt Stone are no pushovers). I would say however that it's not so much because the story is hard to believe, but rather that it's not germane to their purpose. Church is not for history lessons. Mormons don't gather to prove their religion exists (though they do express *how much* they know the church is true due to feelings from within). They gather to do scripture readings, offering them wisdom/guidance/inspiration/hope etc. etc. and to do fun things that can be kind of quirky, like in the episode. To me, the main dichotomy is philosophy vs. religion. Sophists aim to unravel life's mysteries and tap into a sense of deeper meaning through the use of the rational mind (in a Cartesian way). Believers have no interest for that. For them, correlation implies causation. They don't *want* to think about life that deeply, because it's already all been figured out and packaged neatly for you into a book. Furthermore, thoughts may arise that are contradictory to their beliefs and can cause some unwelcomed discomfort. Whereas the secular are perfectly fine confronting this feeling, the religious simply want to *believe* .

@MatthewTait2373 жыл бұрын
Exactly. God told Smith that bad people took his original pages & were going to secretly change his writings so that when Smith pulled off rewriting it verbatim to prove he was speaking with God (like he totally would’ve) it wouldn’t match up. But then God told Smith no worries just go with something totally different. Sounds legit.
@jacobhoward86893 жыл бұрын
God told Smith that the author of the next section (Nephi) started by abridging his father's records (the manuscript section), and that those who stole the manuscript would use it as a Catch-22 if it was translated again. If it were different, each copy would genuinely be different and flawed, but if they were exactly the same, those with the other copy could just as easily change the first to contradict the other, if that was their intention. Since Nephi abridged his father Lehi's writings, he resumed with Nephi's records, and the story is still there, including them leaving Jerusalem, Lehi's vision that he told to his sons, and how they got to the Americas. One could easily interpret it either way, supposing the record is genuine, and that of course God, in omnipotence, would know that the beginning would likely be lost, and inspire the next person to summarize the record. Just as easily, one could suppose that the record was probably fabricated in the first place, and that of course an uneducated person wouldn't be able to replicate verbatim 118 pages of manuscript, and started writing what pieces and main elements they remembered. The latter story doesn't explain how the Book of Mormon has 13 distinct writing styles if an uneducated farmboy made it up with a total of 3 scribes. The former doesn't explain why people would be so determined to prove Joseph Smith as false, or so set in believing that revelation doesn't occur in modern times (by modern I mean their time) that they blindsided that possibility, despite being from a more spiritually minded time

The only reason why older religions sound less crazy to us than younger religions like Mormonism and Scientology is familiarity. Civilizations just had more time to get used to stories about talking burning bushes, men living inside giant fishes for days and the sprinkling of magic water on babies so they won't burn forever in Hell when they die. Over time the crazy of older religions has simply turned into ancient myths and tradition. Maybe in a thousand years the stories about the hat and golden tablets of Joseph Smith and the volcanoe bombing aliens of L. Ron Hubbard have turned into myth too.

The document was written in ink, handwritten with a quill pen in Martin Harris' handwriting. Any "changes" would be obvious with the materials used to write something in that day and age. Paper was much more coarse in that time period. Ink would go down inside those coarse spots in the paper. You wouldn't be able to "change" it without making a big mess of the paper. That is why you people suffer so much, running away from religion and stuff, not having an idealist, a holy figure to guide you, to be a good and better person, so let me tell you honey SANTA IS REAL!!! 🤣🤣 Dont mess with him.

My favorite-- when she laughs at how ridiculous it would have been for Smith to have dug around all night for the stones (or whatever)--and she's like, he didn't have to dig all night guys (laughing at how ridiculous that would have been)...the angel told him where to go. I think that's also the message in this episode and their musical. It's outrageous to believe these things and they rip on it in a very humorous and playful way, while shining light on how happy and kind mormons seem to be. Maybe we're the assholes and shouldn't care what they believe.
@DCrandomwords4 жыл бұрын
@@rdiddy1411 Outward appearances of happiness aren’t always true representations of the group. Cults are extremely adamant that their members appear happy and outgoing to attract members no matter their true feelings. In the case that someone is depressed it’s never the group, ideology, or deity at fault. Instead the depressed person is blamed and shunned until they get in line. Mormons are less extreme than most cults, but they still exhibit many of the control methods of cults.

@@DCrandomwords As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I can tell you straight up that we are genuinely happy. Sure, we have emotions the same as everyone else, but we can always find peace in knowing that trials are just there to make us stronger. Honestly, this episode portrays how we are pretty well, but doesn't really portray what we believe in. We aren't trying to "attract" new members or anything, thats just how we are. The only depressed members are usually the ones that aren't attending church every sunday and are allowing themselves to be led by temptation. If that is truly how you feel, I would ask you to meet with a missionary or attend a church session and see how you feel afterwards. I dont say this because I want you to convert, I say this because I don't want you to be confused about a church that isn't so different from the Christian or Catholic Church. Also, what control methods do you mean? If my family wanted to, we could stop attending and give up on the church entirely. There isn't anything stopping us.

For me it was only 4 or 5 years it took me to unwind all the bad and wrong things I was taught from the moment I realized christianity was nonsense. For some it takes decades. Some never fully recover. These kind of religions are wholly immoral and disgusting and cause nothing but pain for anyone who dare think about it for a half a second.
