I was privileged to go on a brief mission trip to the Salt Lake Valley this summer and work with some of the few Christian churches there and visit Apologia Church Utah at the end of the trip. Only 2% of the 1.3 million people living in the valley are Protestant Christians. It was so sad to see a whole culture so lost and without (for the most part) ever hearing a presentation of the Gospel. Edit: I hope this one drops on your podcasting platforms! Sometimes it seems that there's some sort of glitch where the Friday Specials don't get released anywhere besides YT (ie. Scientology). Keep up the good work, RRM!

@@HaleStorm49 Oh okay, I don't know about that story. Yes you're right that the Mormonism is slowly dying off in SLC. Most of the LDS that were Mormons moved to Provo or Ogden nearby. I think the Salt Lake Valley (which includes those three cities and a few others) is one of the most spiritually lost cities because there are so few Christians there (2%). All the LDS members that I met had never met a Protestant before, let alone heard the biblical gospel message. In other cities most people have the chance to hear the gospel message because there's many churches, whereas in the SLV that chance is very close to zero.

Ward radio just had a great episode highlighting how many people investigate the church and get baptized because of these types of discussions. As a Latter-Day Saint, I am grateful that anti content brings people to our church. However, there is more to Right Response ministries than being anti. I have watched enough of Webbon's videos (probably too much) to know what he is all about. He along with like-minded Christians have articulated an agenda to establish a theocracy in the United States. Blasphemy laws would shut down our temples and church buildings since we aren't "Christian." Now, I don't think this will ever happen. However, their ideas have become increasingly common among Christians in politics and society. Durbin, who is also a buddy of Webbon's, has fantasized about seeing our temples come down. Webbon wants to see mosques disappear. This way of thinking is atrocious and we need to stand up against it. If Ward Radio or anyone is to respond to this, they need to focus more on just the anti tropes. We cannot be okay with people wanting to end our way of life.

There are no court transcripts and all we have are reminiscent accounts from spectators and their accounts don't agree either. I believe the reason there's so much doubt and confusion with early church history has to do with our perceptions of the Roman empire and it's change to Christianity as the state religion. There's a suspicion when the political mingles with the spiritual and you get the impression that there wouldn't be a pure adoption of Jesus's teachings because many of them run counter to what an empire would aspire to do. And then when you add the fact that the Roman empire was formerly a pagan land it makes the situation even more precarious. Now, on the other hand this is where faith has to be in action so Christians can know that Christ kingdom will prevail no matter what and that we are to always discern what spirit is driving any practice.

Many of these "occult" practices weren't occult. They were common folk Christian practices at the time that were not unique to the Smiths at all. And many of these allegations of the occult simply aren't true and are based on bad source material. Read "That old black Magic" by William Hamblin for a good review of D. Michael Quinn's book "Mormonism and the early magic worldview" since Andrew decided to bring that book up. It's a 170 page review that tears that book apart and shows that Quinn misrepresents his sources. And Andrew, please learn your history. Phrenology was considered a science during that time. It wasn't occult.

In (Mormon scripture) Doctrine and Covenants 124, God declares that if the latter-day saints heed the voice of God and his servants, they will not be moved from their place. But if they do not, they will be rejected as a church. This declaration was given in Nauvoo, shortly before they were forced out, west to Salt Lake. When Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were murdered (also shortly before the LDS were forced out of Nauvoo), there were two witnesses - the last two to see them alive - John Taylor and Willard Richards. John Taylor refused to testify, and insisted that others do not testify regarding the death of Joseph Smith. The account of how Joseph Smith died was given by John Taylor, but only after Willard Richards died many years later. It was a very fanciful story. John Taylor would go on to become the third president of that church. Upon the death of Joseph and Hyrum, there was a lot of contention as to who should lead the church. Some wanted their third brother, Samuel Smith to lead the church - he would survive an assassination attempt shortly after the first two died, and then die of a mysterious illness a month later. His death was not investigated. It is my understanding, sought through prayer, that Joseph Smith is a prophet, that very many lies have been told about him, and that church apostatized around the time of his death. This is a belief shared by many others now. Sadly, they are also mistaken. They hold the Brigham Young was the mastermind, holding as evidence that he left on a trip during the time that Joseph Smith died - as if that makes sense. Brigham Young, though something of a scoundrel, was not John Taylor. The whole world now believes, against all evidence, that God despises Polygyny. Assemble all your evidence for monogamy-only and compare it to the following - Genesis 25:1-6+Genesis 26:2-5, Exodus 21:10, 2 Samuel 12:7-8, 2 Chronicles 24:2-3, Isaiah 4:1-2, Jeremiah 3 - and tell me which case is stronger. I'd like to see you debate Pete Rambo on the topic.

The Restoration Movement(which if your read The Word of God is Impossible, because God Never Fails and Jesus Never The Lost The Church) Spawned multiple Denominations that are all related to each other- 1. The Restorationis aka your Churches of Christ and "Non-Denominational" Christian Churches that branched off from the Restoration Movement. 2. You Have Mormonism, and Mormons and The Church of Christ are very Cozy and comfortable with one another, because some Churches of Christ during the Restoration Movement became Mormons. 3. Seventh Day Adventists and 4. Jehovas Witnesses. Which sadly are All Cults or Cult Like in their behavior. Through the Restoration Movement the Gospel was watered down and Americanized into "Jesus Loves You and Jesus Died For You" and you need be baptized in water to be saved. The True Church was never Lost but God did Reform it with the Protestant Reformation which brought the Church back to The Scripture and God's Sovereignty and His Freedom to Save Whomever he will save.
