Two LDS missionaries, dressed in their crisp white shirts and ties, knocked on Dr. Peterson's door one sunny morning. Dr. Peterson, who was familiar with the Mormon church, graciously welcomed them into his cozy home. He had a reputation for engaging in debates, and he saw this as an opportunity to engage in a spirited dialogue.
Mormon Missionary, Elder Smith, a charismatic and articulate speaker, began with a warm smile, "Hello, Dr. Peterson! We're here to share a message of hope and faith from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also know as the LDS church"
Dr. Peterson, known for his probing questions and deep philosophical ponderings, responded, "I appreciate your commitment, gentlemen. But I must admit, I have my reservations about certain aspects of your faith."
Elder Johnson, the more patient and empathetic of the two, nodded understandingly. "We're here to address any concerns you may have and to share our beliefs," he said.
The conversation began, and Dr. Peterson presented his doubts about certain doctrines within the Mormon faith, particularly the nature of God and the historicity of the Book of Mormon. The missionaries responded with scriptures, testimonies, and explanations, but Dr. Peterson's intellectual rigor and philosophical acumen made their task challenging.
As the discussion continued, the missionaries noticed that their arguments and scripture references were not making the impact they hoped for. Dr. Peterson skillfully questioned the historical authenticity of the Book of Mormon, the theological concept of God, and the church's approach to social issues. He brought up moral and ethical dilemmas, and every point made by the missionaries seemed to fall short of convincing him.
Elder Smith, undeterred, pressed on, "Dr. Peterson, we truly believe that our faith can bring purpose and meaning to your life. The Book of Mormon can be a source of inspiration and guidance."
Dr. Peterson leaned back in his chair, looking thoughtful. "I appreciate your sincerity, but my journey has led me to different conclusions. My work as a psychologist and my study of philosophy have shaped my worldview. I value the pursuit of truth and the importance of personal responsibility."
The missionaries began to realize that converting Dr. Peterson would be no small task. His intellectual fortitude and deep-seated beliefs were a formidable barrier.
After several hours of spirited discussion, the missionaries and Dr. Peterson concluded their meeting. While the two young elders had not succeeded in converting him to their faith, they left with a newfound respect for Dr. Peterson's intellectual honesty and the depth of his convictions.
As the missionaries walked away from Dr. Peterson's home, they reflected on their encounter. They knew that while they hadn't achieved their goal, the conversation had been a meaningful exchange of ideas and beliefs. They left with the hope that they had planted a seed of curiosity in Dr. Peterson's mind, one that might someday lead him to a deeper understanding of their faith. And Dr. Peterson, for his part, continued to pursue his own path of exploration, embracing the values of truth, responsibility, and meaning that he held dear.

I dont think the members asking those questions were in it for the glory of trying to be the one helping convert Jordan P. If they genuinely believe their faith then they are just trying to share what they believe is true to help a prominent figure come to what they believe true, regardless of who does it. It takes a pretty antagonistic person to perceive it as selfish, which leads to thinking its cringey. But if TBMs are right and not in it for themselves, then suddenly it's not cringey at all, which kind of defeats the point of the video. It's true though that he would avoid those questions in order to not tread on controversial grounds and avoid losing an audience of paying customers. Phrasing it in a way as to not crush their dreams though is probably a bit too assuming and presumptious.

I think about this question with every religion/sect, not as a disproof of religion in general or any one religion in particular, but as a way to have more interesting conversations/thoughts: multiple religions claim to be the right one. How, generallly speaking, would one know if they were born into or found the right one? Does being right feel the same as being wrong? Can you evaluate the validity of your own faith (or lack therof) objectivelly, particularly with how much of your life is based on it? Does everyone have a concience that can tell? Would you have to read every religious text before choosing? How would Mormons answer these questions? I wonder what would happen if Peterson took such an inquiry based approach with various religious leaders/missiionaries/apologists. Would Mormons ever agree to such a format?

Every church does claim to be the one. But many are proven wrong just from history books. Pastors just interpret the Bible, which it itself teaches can't be done by any man (Peter). God answers that question. Only the LDS church teaches for someone to pray and ask him to know if what is being taught is the truth. No other does that. If someone truly wants to know, they do it without fear as nothing can interfere with a prayer to the Father in the name of Jesus. Otherwise, they just want a religion that's convenient for their lifestyle and are talkers, not walkers.

@@WatchingwaitingG2D Does LDS teach that there are any preconditions for that? For instance, does one first have to be familiar with what LDS teaches or some amount of it? Is there any particular wording or specific points to such a prayer that are essential, or would a prayer of, "God, is the LDS claim to be the one and only true church of Jesus Christ true?" be equivalent? Is the way one will know if the answer they get is from God, their own mind, or some other spirit something that is describable either in full or in part by words, or is it not describable?

@pyrobreather1 read my comment again carefully. Every other church teaches from the Bible yet believes and teaches different things. They use scripture against scripture, which is against what it teaches. The two messages from the Bible are first Jesus is the way, and find someone who can't explain the rest. How was that done in the Bibles time frames? The LDS church teaches what no one else can and explains why they can. The missionary lessons cover this. God answers specific questions depending on how each individual asks them. He respects each as an individual. He answers if what is taught is truth. He does not pick and choose. A person does. He does not answer concerning foolish lies and mistruths because he knows the intentions of that person. He answers to prove he exists and that a person is on the right path to further truth. He himself will test that person's true intentions. God doesn't lie. When he answers, it is truth. Anyone trying to find some reason to discredit that calls God a liar, which is what mocking is in the scriptures. From that point, they lose their way. When much is given, one can't be satisfied with less.

@@WatchingwaitingG2D When you say read your comment again carefully, do you mean that either in the questions I asked or the way I asked them, I failed to understand or attempt to understand something that you said, or that there was something that I missed? If so, what specifically? When you say He does not answer concerning foolish lies or mistruths, what do you mean by that? Do you mean if He is asked if a particular bit of foolishness is true, if He is asked a stupid or illogical question, if He is asked insincerely, some combination of these, or do you mean something else entirely? When you said "Anyone trying to find a reason to discredit that..." what is the "that," specifically? When you said in your original comment only the LDS church teaches for someone to pray and ask him if what is being taught is the truth, was that given as an argument in favor of it being true, or for other reasons instead of that one, or other reasons as well as that one?

I really enjoy listening to you. You have a radio voice and your perspective is relatable to others who can sympathize with you. If the LDS church would be more admitting to their mistakes and didn't whitewash so much of the historical errors then we might not be watching these vids. It's difficult and I in many ways am disappointed as you are with the whole experience of the restoration of the Gospel. With that being said perhaps you should ask your viewers what type of content they would like to see. Fair and balanced.

@@ubermormon9611 Expressing myself on social media is getting tricky. The new world order types at Google like to censor the truth. I'll try and stay as diplomatic as possible. Religion isn't what the word of God teaches. It teaches faith in Jesus Christ and redemption for sin by his blood for confessed sinners. According to the gospel of salvation which is essentially"...How Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and was buried and resurrected on rose again on the third day according to the scriptures" Faith and being born again has nothing to do with religion. It is the "Gift of eternal life" a personal and intimate relationship with the God who created the universe. One on one no middle man! Plain truth is ask Jesus to forgive you believing in his righteousness. Confess to God you are a sinner that needs forgiveness. That's not what religion teaches it's what God teaches.

at the time he wouldn't even directly address his own faith in God. he's def not going to address why he won't join a specific faith in particular. you think members of our church were the only ones doing this?? most of Christianity was doing this to him as well. but if you live in Utah and that's all you see, then that's all you know we tried, because we care. we love him that much we want him to have even more. we've learn a lot from him and we know there's a lot we can teach him in return. it's a mutual benefit. we grow from each other. that's love/respect at it's best. and/or, we love his powerful insights and would love for him to be able to apply his intelligence to our beliefs and bask in the new light he could shed on them for us. which is also a sign of respect to trust his opinions about our most deeply held unique beliefs. we trusted him to handle it carefully (amd he did!). and no one is surprised he didn't. no one figured he actually would. but, shoot, it'd have been awesome if he did, right? no weird selfish motives for that. amd no harm in trying. gotta take the shot. you interpreted the sincere efforts of a large crowd to show their trust for a beloved man as something weird and creepy. and that's too bad that that's how you interpret things.

I can see how it’s a sign of respect, all I’m saying is I can also see how it’s funny. One of the beautiful things about being an exmormon is I now have double the perspectives.

If you believe it will change someone’s life for the better, why wouldn’t you? That venue was clearly not the space where Mikhaila wanted such an interaction to take place (understandably so), but that doesn’t mean that every question put forth about the LDS faith was an attempt to proselytize JP.
