I don't think there's a novelty to it. It's genuinely awesome. Been riding around the high desert here in New Mexico for three years now and still love it just as much as I did on day one. So much different than what we had growing up in the midwestern US. Doesn't matter where you go, there scenery is epic. The trails are amazing. There's sand whoops that go on forever, tight mountain single track, washes barely wider than your bars, ridges so narrow you can't put a foot down without sliding all the way to the bottom, and everything in between. And everywhere you go, you're surrounded by pure beauty in the middle of nowhere, just you and the bike and maybe a few friends. Fucking love it.

Gents this is truly a spiritual experience - thanks for this - apologies as a bit late to the party! Loved riding in Spain ( Z1000J1, GPZ1100A1 Zx750 Turbo E2, and KLR650) when in my 20s ( 1980s) and enjoyed the KLR the most on the trails in the Pyrenees in my 30s! I'm now a bit of an old fecker with health problems, but always wanted to ride in the Atlas Mountains! I did pick up a Spanish partner on my travels though in Girona Province, and love Gibraltar down south and the surrounding areas! I also know the joys of a broken collar bones curtisey of Kevel road races so i can feel for James as they are feckers:-)
