yeah, you're off the mark about his "overlong snoozers". Life is a Pigsty is a tremendous track, a huge favorite, and the last two tracks (especially the last track, which is powerful and moving) on '... Dog on a Chain' are brilliant. Otherwise, decent video. And anyone who has followed Moz since the Smiths know his politics are if anything progressive and way left of center. He was singing about police brutality before BLM (the brilliant 'Ganglord" of off "Swords"). Does he say silly hyperbolic things during interviews: yes, ... and they are taken out of context. Its ironic how someone so liberal (and continues to be liberal) has been viewed as right wing these days.
@benjaminhorton80133 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with you that Vauxhall and I is his masterpiece. I'm so glad to see Alain Whyte back with him live during his Vegas shows. If you haven't already, you must check out Alain Whyte's youtube channel, as he has posted acoustic gems of many of the solo Morrissey songs which he co-wrote, as well as some of his own material (which is also great!)

"I am a poor, freezing-cold soul, so far from where I intended to go.". So sad, so true, so beautiful, that's Morrissey in a nutshell for me. Agree with Vauxhall and Speedway, timeless, heart-wrenching Pop Music, that in his own sick way has always felt true to me.

I agree that Spent The Day In Bed is one of his best modern songs. I’d say the same thing with Love Is On It’s Way Out and Jack’s Only Happy When He’s Up On Stage. Also quite surprised you didn’t mention”Let Me Kiss You” when talking on the You Are The Quarry segment.

So you've seen a good deal of metal bands in concert? Yet Morrisy is best singer to you in concert?
@Frip36 Жыл бұрын
You should give yourself a chance to finally get the song Southpaw. Yes, as you say, the vocal section is great. Then you say the song is marred by a long guitar solo that goes nowhere. "Way too long." Southpaw is one of the greatest songs of all time. It's a masterpiece. The instrumental section is not of this world. I'm not even legit Smiths or Morrissy fan. How can so few real S/M fans not hear the beauty of what's going on in this song? I do get that things are subjective. But only to a point. It is not subjective whether the guitar solo on Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" is great. It's objectively great. The same holds true of the solo on Southpaw. Which is why I don't get why people can't hear it. It's like you're presented with 2 plus 2 equals four. And you persist in saying five. Why can't you and others hear it Tokyochuchu? It's not merely a solo. It's a movement with ebb and flow and escalations and fades. What you described in the other long song as the guitar beautifly weaving. THAT'S what Whyte and the band our doing on Southpaw but to a far more compelling degree. As a side point, we both love and know our music, obviously. So it is subjective. I hate to death The Teachers are Afraid of the Pupils. It's so bad when listening to it I just want to run off into the woods and never come back. Yet here we are. Two seasoned music lovers. You think one of the worst songs I've ever heard is better than one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. I mean. I'm still very right about it. And you are still very very wrong about it. But yeah, just, weird. @@tokyochuchu

Not bad at all. I would say his 88-94 output is easily his best solo period - those first four albums meant a lot to me at the time , in ways that everything that followed did not . Hard to rank exactly , but Vauxhall and Arsenal are top three (no Suedehead or Everyday on them , but they are his most consistently good albums) with Viva Hate one or two ( his best songs are on it , but there are also a couple of beige songs too) , with Kill Uncle more definitively at four ( underrated , light , quirky and unique Moz record with some gems and a couple of misteps ) .

I actually did buy the remastered version of Maladjusted but unfortunately it never really struck a chord with me. For me, the best decade of Moz's career will always be 1984-1994. The only studio album of his that I don't have from that era is Kill Uncle.

For us of similar age to Morrisey, Everyday is Like a Sunday conjures up much more than images and memories of dull costal resorts; it's about how back then nothing was open on Sundays other than church and the only entertainment was the dross on a few TV channels, meaning the best you could do was hang around the streets with mates or sit in your room listening to records. Dreary, grim and depressing doesn't even begin to describe what Sundays were like.

Nice analysis and I mostly agree. I would however have I am Not a Dog on a Chain further up the list. Yes, the last two tracks are dull but everything that comes before those are truly fantastic, his best work for many a year.
@tokyochuchu3 жыл бұрын
I agree for the most part, as I said in the video; I think the first 8 songs are just brilliant. I still think World Peace is None of Your Business is the superior late period Morrissey album, though. But I'm jealous of your passion for IANADOAC. The next album must be super- tantalising!! 😎
@29memyselfandi3 жыл бұрын
@@tokyochuchu yep, can’t wait! And in truth World Peace is None of your Business is an album I probably haven’t given enough time to, so maybe I need to go and revisit it. Anyway well done on the upload, I enjoyed it a lot and you’re one of the few who seem able to talk about Morrissey without droning on about his politics. Although I don’t agree with him on some things politically I massively respect his unflinching steadfastness in saying what he thinks regardless of the consequences. As a true artist should.

DID I MISS BONA DRAG
@tokyochuchu3 жыл бұрын
I mentioned in the intro that there were no compilations or live albums included in this ranking. I specifically mentioned Bona Drag and said it was a classic that you should definitely check out, and if if it had been ranked, it would have been ranked pretty high. So I guess maybe you did miss it... 🤔

I guess for everyone it's different, even to the extremes that one's last preference would be another's first. 1. Ringleader Of The Tormentors - I know you disagree but I think this album is utterly brilliant. 2. Southpaw Grammar 3. Your Arsenal 4. You Are The Quarry For me - the perfect setlist would be comprised mainly of what I consider his top 4 albums. 5. Years Of Refusal 6. World Peace Is None Of Your Business 7. Vauxhall and I 8. Kill Uncle 9. Viva Hate 10. Low In High School 11. California Son 12. Maladjusted Haven't heard his last 3 albums yet, but I'll get there eventually.

Everything is subjective. I'm glad you enjoy Ringleader so much. I wish I could get more out of that record myself.
@kenpudsey64352 жыл бұрын
I can understand why you picked 'Vauxhall and i' as your number 1 Moz album.it is brilliant but 'Viva Hate' is my best Morrissey album..before he started f***g around with it and took 'Ordinary Boys' off it and replaced it with the God awful 'Treat me like a human being'..WTF?..even Stephen Street was bemused by this!
@tokyochuchu2 жыл бұрын
Yep. That was the absolute worst decision.

I do think you should have put Bona Drag in here... Afterall you had The Smiths comps in that list :)
@tokyochuchu3 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate that. But it opens up a whole can of worms. If I include Bona Drag then I also have to include Swords. And if I include Swords then I have to include World of Morrissey. And then what's really the difference between World of Morrissey and the Suedehead best of compilation? They both had exclusive tracks. And if that goes in, what about Greatest Hits.... The rabbit hole goes too deep! Lol

I'd love you to state his "recent political affiliations". Every word that has been quoted has been taken out of context or is pure lies.

In the time since I said that, I have to say that I have come around. A lot has happened in the world since then and I feel Morrissey was just kind of ahead of the curve. I wish I hadn't said that now. But I certainly won't say it again.

You can't even name the tracks correctly. There are several times throughout that you recall track names incorrectly, and I'm supposed to pay attention to your ranking despite you showing you can't really be that much of a fan when you get numerous names wrong.

I am a huge fan. Obviously. I've heard almost every track the dude has ever released. Even guff like The Slum Mums & Tony the Pony. But I can admittedly be a touch sloppy. It's not just Morrissey. It's every band I cover. Sorry if you didn't enjoy the video.
