Join me in this video for a rather cold and windy hike up two mountains in the Spanish Sierra Nevada, Spain. Starting from the alpine ski station at Puerta de la Ragua, we first climb up to the ridge line and up to Morron del Hornillo at 2,377m ASL, from there we continue along the ridge and make a steeper climb up to San Juanero at 2,609m ASL. On a better day (or better equiped for the cold!) you could continue here to the summit of Mediodia. But on the day, I decided to turn around at this point and head back down.

Cool! Back in Spain! Enjoy your time! Some pretty awesome hiking territory...might be a bit breezy and cool, but sure some pretty great views! Now, head back down for a nice hot cup of tea...and a banana...suggested by Otis! lol Bruce and Otis

Hi Bruce & Otis! It was wonderful up there, but really cold and windy! I didn't have any bananas, but a sandwich and coffee was most welcome to get warmed up again 😁 Back in rainy England again now 🙁 All the best & see you both soon👍

Cheers David. It's been ages since I've managed to get out for a decent hike. I believe they've stopped the winter fuel allowance for pensioners in Spain now...maybe I should send the UK government a link to this video? Freezing up there! 😁❄❄

Hi Des, It reminds me of many years ago, I drove from Granada, 30°C, to the foothills of the Mulhacen, and the temperature was below zero. A huge contrast, but as we can see in your video, a feeling of purity and psoitive solitude in this "desert" of mountains.

There is a surprising difference in temperature as you ascend. The icy wind chill was the main thing on that day though! A fantastic experience up there! Many thanks for watching👍☺

Had to pause about half way through for a minute so posted what I had and just started it back up. 😂😂. It’s hard to hike when the maps and GPS isn’t helpful. Bill has had that issue before too. That wind was brutal. It was messing with your mic. 😂. Man that fog was wicked as was the temps. Good job getting to the top and finishing up. You deserve that pot a coffee. 😂😂

The maps I have for the area are awful, and printed on really poor quality paper, but that OSMAnd GPS app has been great. The app is free and then I think you pay a one off price of 30 pounds/dollars to get the more detailed maps. Used it on two trips now and it has been great! That coffee was most welcome when I got back👍😁

We're back now, so getting used to the rain and grey skies again 😁 Man, it was cold up there! Probably not the wisest place to be solo hiking with the gear I had with me, but I was keeping a close eye on the weather! Cheers for watching & catch you soon👍☺

That was a epic old trek Des boi could see those clouds moving at a rate of knots 🙌🙌🏔️ One thing that struck me was you could of been hiking the carneddau in Wales or indeed the Peak District with that southern latitude balancing the super altitude your where at Mountains 🏔️ 🏔️ are amazing Great watch mate Best regards Simon 🤠👍🏔️

That was definitely a blustery hike, Des. I could almost feel the cold. You don't think of Spain being that cold near the Med. Were they triangulation points or random pillars Des? Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed this hike.

Hi Chris. It gets really cold up there, but not quite as much snow these last few years. I don't think the posts are trigs because of where they're positioned. They seem to have altitude marked on them. I'm guessing they are like waymarkers for snowy weather maybe? All the best & catch you soon!
