After the ending of Mortal Kombat 11, I was actually looking forward to Mortal Kombat 1, seeing a rebooted storyline that could remove all the convoluted nonsense of the past games and make something new, seeing a new universe that both fans and new individuals could get into
Instead we got a sequel to Mortal Kombat 11, with most of the story being filler and ruining any chance for new fans to join the franchise and understand the story without being massively confused. Also Megan Fox as Nitara is criminal

At this point, I wonder why I even had a sliver of hope. Every time I tell myself "Maybe they get it right this time, they are going as far as using time travel/resetting the world, all the fuck ups are gonna be gone, there is hope" only to see them not only fuck up even more but also semi-back pedal on the reboot part. Being a fan of Mortal Kombat's story and world is just an exercise in futility at this point.

there is a part of the mk1's writing that can make the next game completely ignoring the multiverse if they wanted to, the writing did drop near the end but the aracde endings which act as epilogues (and are canon) arguably carry the same quality as the beginning half of the game most of which ignore the multvierse and instead continues what this rebooted world is, so the semi-back pedal then just steps forward again. despite the problems it could be the best of NRS for MK but that's not a high bar let's be real here in comparison to the previous games all it does is that it allows the next game to fully come off with clean slate but that's only if they stick with it and not come up with something completely different that hurts the narrative's pace

The problem is that it reminds me of the Dragon brakes from The Elder Scrolls, the issue is that those were left ambiguous, causing in that particular event everything to be true and everything to be false a dilemma that breaks time and causes normal continuity to be impossible, giving the hint of multiple timelines but separated from each other but that's all, because the important thing is the current time line. If not, this happens, you have like 10,000 characters from different alternative time lines and you don't understand anything.

I 100% agree. Was loving it up until the multiple timelines thing. And honestly, I would've still loved it if it was just 1 alternate timeline, the timeline where Shang Tsung won in Aftermath, because the idea of making the previous game's multiple endings both canon is pretty rare and would've been kool. But they did not show restraint and just went straight into infinite alternate timelines. Yeah, I checked out at that point.

I would say give the arcades endings a chance, the timeline thing is greatly far removed from most of them and take place after the story mode, makes me wonder who wrote what parts

Im sorry, but no. This games story was one if not the best in the franchise. Unlike most of the other mks. This games characters and relationships were well fleshed out and the changes (you know the ones you said were arbitrary) actually make the characters more interesting. Seeing shao try to politically maneuver his way to the Thorne was fucken sweet. Raiden is bassically a completely new character with different goals and interests. The change to the tarkhatans is fire too, they aren’t just goofy Tuscan raiders now. Not to mention havik, ashara, and Nitara actually having something to do in the story is fire. And the whole criticism about chronika, who cares, the Shang Tsing reveal and how they handle both timelines is fucken sick. I just disagree completely

And the ending was pretty dope, getting to fight all the cool variants was sick and that’s the thing with soft reboots, they never have sticking power. Not in any media, there is always a return to status quo but mk is showing us that they are going to flesh out this new, more interesting 9 realms. This game is def worth, gameplay, story, characters all handled with care and done Justice. This game buss, period

I actually liked chemistry between Shao and Sindel in MK11 despite the massive retcon it created. It's not often we see power couples like this in videogames and I hoped the reboot would have continue their relationship development into that direction. Sadly developers decided to scratch that and return to basics 😥

it's not like Sindel and Jerrod aren't a power couple, Sindel's arcade basically have it so they fight together to rule over Ermac

Yeah, as much as I hate how the retcon was inconsistent and how much of a twisted bitch 11’s Sindel was to her own family, the power couple and hints of romance make me love it regardless of all its’ shitty flaws. Hell, here’s an idea for a rewrite framework: What if 11’s Sindel genuinely loved both Shao and Jerrod, only to choose one so she could ensure her family would be safe and comfortable? Attracted to two men who have varying ideas on how power should be used, sacrificing one for another? Or keep the ‘backstabbing trade’ angle, but let her do it out of a twisted love for one being greater than the other? I’m just throwing out stream of consciousness thoughts, so feel free to workshop this if anyone ever notices.

people really are just bad at reading it on a different way, all they want is something that appease to them, mortal kombat is getting bigger and bigger and with this reboot MK1 its so that new players can join in without learning the history of the past games, this is simply to rebuild and regain a new audience as they gain more from media. The arguments on making shao a jobber, obviously cuz why would liu make him a villain, and why didnt liu just make shang and quan on the good side? they'll still starve for power and try to best over liu and the other guys, like what happend to the young shujinko, on the good side but still ended up resenting at one point and liu having to reset his memory n powers. Why couldnt he do the same with shang and quan, because they were useless people and if other timeline shang had not interfered they wouldve stayed the same. people hate on the kornika multiverse thing but it absolutely makes sense for MK and can sprout out a bunch of other storylines that the new comers can consume because its the new era's timeline, no more of the og stuff they are starting with something fresh and useless arguments of lazy writing isnt enough to make their story shit. they are literally reintroducing characters that are long forgotten to newcomers to bring them back into the light, havik, darius, nitara, ashrah have been unknown to the people that just hopped onto the franchise. if the story is shit, why hasnt anyone with the same opinion as you shit out a complete storyline that competes with NRS writing, not a single paragraph other than, "i wish they did this, i wish they didnt do that, why isnt it my way"
