I loved my playthrough of Technomancer. It was an enjoyable game for being a AA game, and I actually liked a lot of the story. Nuanced in it's combat, but had quite a bit of exploration in it's usage. However, a lot of the maps were very much like Mass effect where it was just one linear direction, that you would visit a couple times in the story, then only have to go back to turn in missions before moving to the next one. Less open exploration if that's your fancy.

I gotta say I really enjoyed the Technomancer and hope to see you review it at some point. You might even consider doing a series of older rpg's and bringing a review to them. In any event, as always, good vid.....P.S. As long as we are on the subject and even tho' it's not strictly an rpg franchise I would still love to see you review the Xcom games. All of them. Take care

I LOVE The Technomancer. It reminded me of pre-EA Bioware a lot, and even though it felt like you needed to backtrack in areas a lot, I still didn't mind it too much as I enjoyed the setting, the characters, the plot premise, etc. there's just a lot to like. Maybe I am bit biased because there aren't much sci-fi/space RPGs.
@armelior4610

The setting is great, but the story is not very good sometimes (everything about the bad guy) and you can really feel the budget constraints. Greedfall is way better in those regards, so I hope we will have a much improved technomancer 2 later
@pyrs-spam

@@armelior4610 Surprisingly, I enjoyed Greedfall way less than Technomancer. It was too open and had a lot of bloat and suffered from bad pacing, and while Technomancer didn't have a convoluted plot, it was interesting enough for me to power through it! By the end of Greedfall I was just... done with it

This is such an old comment but I’m going to reply anyway. I loved the setting of techno Mansor, but never got more than maybe 10 hours in because the story was an interesting to me and the maps felt a bit small. Besides that I thought the game was great. For greed fall. I absolutely loved the first city and then once I got into the wilds, I lost interest a bit because the city was so enthralling. I didn’t want to explore nature. But I absolutely need to go back to both of those games and finish them

The trophy to get a crap ton of crossbow headshots nearly broke me. I think it required refreshing the bandits at a certain camp, running in to aggro them all, run out, then fish in a barrel shoot them as they came out the gate. It was beyond tedious. I feel like it was something like 300 headshots.

I'm currently playing Technomancer and is basically a mix between The witcher 3 and Mass Effect. The game have some flaws, but i'm really surprise by the fact that combat have more variety than The witcher 3... at least in Technomancer you have 3 different combat style + traps + technomancer powers and progression and builds seem to me more enjoyable. Is a bit clunky sometimes, but overall i think that is another underrated AA.

@@quint3ssent1a The immunity remark is not true. You'll face humans in armor with high (nearly immune) resistance to Lightning damage. And unless you go deep into technomancy for the resistance penetration and such. Your technomancer abilities will be useless against them. Even if you do go heavy into technomancy (and most will because DUH you're a technomancer). You'll do considerably less damage to them. Conversely, if you go down the rogue path. You'll have trouble against some of the mutant wild life enemies. As they all have high resistance to poison damage. You can skirt around that with focusing on fast attacks and crits, at least. Meanwhile, the sword and board combat style can struggle against high armor mobs. Due to lacking higher damage output and being a defensive-focused combat style. Also, the game was actually originally designed with you picking a background to your character. Which would lock you into one fighting style. But that scrapped that due to how repetitive and dull combat became when stuck with one weapon type and it's respective technomancer ability (you only got to zap at range and one other power). So, they made it so you could swap weapon types on the fly and implemented the quasi-combo system. But, they ran out of time to adjust and flesh out their talent system. Originally, the trees you see were stand-alone when locked into one background and combat type. So they ported them over and locked all the technomancer abilities into one tree. With the intention of pruning down each tree and forcing you to go around the tree and putting a talent point into each one in a circular pattern as you leveled. But, as I said, they ran out of budget and development time. So the changes and balancing to the talent trees didn't happen. The game is then designed for you to switch weapons based on the combat situation. But the talent tress incentivize you to pick one weapon and technomancy and just play those.
@zaccanasta-r3l
@zaccanasta-r3l Жыл бұрын
@@quint3ssent1a I'm fine with that. The difference between each combat styles is enough that you don't feel that you are playing the same way and you can make a new run with a different build. For example in my run i'm using a lot of technomancer powers and staff combat with a fast playstyle, dodge and high chance to destabilize enemy (with kicks and technomancer powars). On the other hand mace and shield are more focus on parry for example.

Witcher 3 imo has a lot of flaws, from simple frustrating rpg mechanics and quality of life features to the main overarching story. I think cdpr deserved to get proper criticism for that game but all the people in the world unanimously forgot the past 20yrs of great RPGs and crpgs (including the previous w games) and decided that w3 is the single greatest video game ever created without a single blemish whatsoever. The result is (imo) Cyberpunk's wasted potential.

Spiders are an interesting company. Along with another Eurojank company, Piranha Bytes, their games can be hit and miss but there is just something about Eurojank games that I find compelling. Even when they fail they often fail in interesting ways. The ambition on display, they way their reach often exceeds their grasp, I often find that I end up keeping on playing Eurojank titles even when I know there are more polished games I could be spending my time on. I can't explain it but given you liked both Technomancer and Elex, I think I am probably preaching to the choir.

Hey Mort, one thing I'm curious about is your perspective on jrpgs. Especially older and more revered ones. I think it would be very interesting and informative to hear the take of someone who is well versed in crpgs, 100% games like Xenogears, Dragon Quest, or the Final Fantasy series. Especially because some of those original games were inspired by older crpgs. Anyway, keep up the good work. Peace.

I enjoyed Mars: War Logs when it came out so I was pretty interested in Technomancer as it's based in the same world and the technomancers in War Logs (such a dumb name for a game by the way) were some of its most interesting elements, but I just couldn't get into Technomancer at all. The dialog writing was off-putting and the gameplay just didn't grab me, so I dropped it after maybe 3 or 4 hours of play. I don't know if that's a sign of age, a change of taste for what I'm into since I first played it years ago, or if there's a time a place to play Witcher opposed to being a game I always enjoy. Heyo Mortym! Spiders dev team has come a long way since Bound by Flame. Imo, each successive game since BbF imprroved a bit. I enjoyed playing Technomancer, but the dialog and VA was a bit stilted. (P.S. I HAVE heard of Betrayal at Club Low.)
@Jake-po4sp

Ah, Spiders. I quite liked Mars War Logs. I thought Bound by Flame was a great step up and played through it twice back to back (I believe a singular occurrence for me; very rarely, even with new game plus, do I play a game back to back.) I just wanted more; more equipment, more upgrades, more progression. Technomancer brought more, but it was just more story. They forgot to add more to the gameplay and progression. I was done playing about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through, but the story just kept going. It was a drag to finish. Greedfall went full Witcher 3 and I did not even finish it. It is on my list of games to give another shot. So is Witcher 3, in fact. I have tried Witcher 3 many times, but fall off at some point. They set a new standard for side quests that I thoroughly appreciate, but I just didn't care about anything that was happening or anybody it was happening to. I liked Witcher 2 and Geralt as character, but 3 just doesn't pull me in. I also wasn't crazy about gameplay and progression.

So why didn't you review the technomancer? You mention you did a gameplay video of it and it got very few views - is that the only reason, or is there more to it than that?. I checked the price on steam an its currently dirt cheap less than £2, so i've picked it up. I do recall it being released and there not being much fanfare - but that is essentially what anyone who knows spiders should expect lol.
